Dior Winter Poppy & Red Pansy Rouge Dior Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
Winter Poppy (862)
Dior Winter Poppy (862) Rouge Dior Lip Color (2021) ($40.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium-dark, pink-red with strong, cool blue undertones and a flat, matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff paired with a denser consistency that wasn’t emollient and had only slight gliding ability, so it didn’t apply as comfortably in a single stroke.
It was easier to apply in shorter, more overlapping strokes to get the most even finish. Despite being a little clingy compared to other finishes in the range, it didn’t seem prone to emphasizing my lip texture or lip lines. The color lasted for six and a half hours and left a strong stain behind, though it was only lightly hydrating overall–I definitely needed to put lip balm on a few hours after removal.

Formula Overview
$40.00 -
The formula is supposed to have "radiant, longwear color" with "16 [hour] comfort." Based on the marketing, the "16 [hour] comfort" claim seems associated with how hydrating/smoothing the formula is, not necessarily the color itself, as it was tied to "lip caring" ingredients "red peony and pomegranate flower extracts."
From the shades I've tested, the pigmentation was semi-opaque to opaque, while the consistency was lightly emollient, smooth, and comfortable to apply across my lips in a fluid, one-stroke motion. The coverage was typically even, though the more metallic shades were more emollient than the other finishes and were a little more prone to settling into my lip lines than the satin, matte, and velvet finishes.
They wore between four and six hours with the matte and velvet shades lasting longer (six to eight), so some shades were more long-wearing than the average bullet lipstick. The formula was comfortable to wear and ranged from lightly hydrating to hydrating with the mattes being the least hydrating.
It was floral-scented with a very slight taste at times, though I did not consistently taste it.

Winter Poppy (862)
LELimited Edition. $40.00.
Red Pansy (858)
Dior Red Pansy (858) Rouge Dior Lip Color (2021) ($40.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a deep red with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It was richly pigmented with a smooth, lightly creamy consistency that was lightweight, thin but not clingy, and comfortable to apply in a fluid stroke. The formula smoothed out some of my lip lines, but the deepest ones were still visible in the close-up photo (not so much in person). It stayed on nicely for six hours and felt hydrating while worn.

Winter Poppy is a beauty! 😍
wow i love these – both are my kind of reds and the finish is lovely. i also really love the design of the bullets – reminds me of lisa eldridge velvets how they look really velvety.
Red Pansy looks delightful for a warmer hued red! It almost seems to have some luminosity, though subtle.
Winter Poppy is nice, too. But too pink-based for me.
I purchased Red Pansy and have tried it a couple of times. I am of similar colouring as you, only fairer. The lipstick looked sort of brick leaning in the bullet but when I tried it one it is beautiful. It does have some sort of magical luminosity to it and it is a gorgeous shade which I can’t really describe. I think it will be whatever type of red I need on a given day, if that makes sense. The case is etched and so pretty too.
I picked up Winter Poppy while I was in Seattle and I love it. I think I may pick up Winter Moon also, depending how it swatches on my skin tone. I tend to prefer cool toned reds. They work better with my pale skin and it doesn’t hurt that they make the teeth look whiter. I am contemplating getting my teeth whitened. At 68 and with a long history of coffee and tea drinking, my teeth aren’t as white anymore. It just recently started bothering me so I think I will do it. Never hurts to give your ego/vanity? a little boost!
Red Pansy is just beautiful.
Both are beautiful! I wish Winter Poppy had a tiny bit of slip during application but still might order it. Thank you, Christine!
Both are so beautiful! If I have to chose, and at this price, I would have to, it’d be Winter Poppy, even if a bit drying, and not the most comfortable applying it is so gorgeous, I have one possible dupe, but it’s not close enough to make me want this less.
