Khaki (343)

Dior Khaki (343) 5 Couleurs Couture Eyeshadow Palette ($65.00 for 0.24 oz.) piqued my interest based on the desaturated, earthy color story, but it does represent the brand’s most recent eyeshadow reformulation. It’s not the worst Dior eyeshadow formula I’ve tested, as there was a period of time where the quality was really disappointing, but I think it is inferior to the prior formula. The textures were just a bit thinner, firmer, or weaker in pigmentation and longevity.

Formula Overview

-

The formula is supposed to have a "creamy and comfortable texture" that is long-wearing and has "intense color" (or "high-pigment"). There are five finishes that can be found within various palettes: matte, satin, shimmer, metallic, highlighter, and glitter, though there aren't specific descriptions by finish, unfortunately.

There were a few shades that seemed more sparkly and were sheerer, more like layering shades, while the other finishes tended to be pigmented. In general, the texture was moderately dense with the matte shades being slightly thinner and a smidgen powdery in the pan compared to the satin, shimmer, and metallic shades.

Aside from those more sparkly shades, the formula was blendable, pigmented, easy to work with, and lasted an average of eight hours on me (without a primer).

Dear God, why did Dior reformulate from their previously successful formula? Why do brands do this?
Any HE palette that contains an F is a major disappointment.
Having said the above, the sage green shade or Khaki and the beautiful brown shade of No. 5 are the only really decent shades that I love.

Good question about reformulating for the worse….and so many companies are doing this. It’s like they want to shoot themselves in the foot! The Dior shadows from 2 or 3 years ago and the previous “incarnation” of Rosy Glow Awakening Blush (there are now several colours and the one I use is now called “Pink”, I thing) – they were all so wonderful and these new ones – just not good at all… Like you, I love the sage green and the brown shade in this but really, they should all be spectacular and they aren’t (I think the green shade from Empreinte du desert is similar to that sage green – sort of silvery and washed out but in a good way).
