Dior Black Bow (079) Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Black Bow (079)
Dior Black Bow (079) 5 Couleurs Couture Eyeshadow Palette ($65.00 for 0.24 oz.) is a new, silvery smoky-eyed color story that included four shimmery shades with one matte shade. It’s a brighter, more metallic mix of shimmers, so those who prefer softer, more pearlescent finishes may find this one too intense. All five shades had rich pigmentation and were blendable with decent wear times.

Black Bow #1
Black Bow #1 is a muted, light-medium mauve with neutral-to-cool undertones and a pearly sheen. It had excellent pigmentation with a smooth, silky consistency that wasn’t powdery nor too firmly-pressed into the pan. It wore nicely for eight hours before fading visibly.

Formula Overview
-
The formula is supposed to have a "creamy and comfortable texture" that is long-wearing and has "intense color" (or "high-pigment"). There are five finishes that can be found within various palettes: matte, satin, shimmer, metallic, highlighter, and glitter, though there aren't specific descriptions by finish, unfortunately.
There were a few shades that seemed more sparkly and were sheerer, more like layering shades, while the other finishes tended to be pigmented. In general, the texture was moderately dense with the matte shades being slightly thinner and a smidgen powdery in the pan compared to the satin, shimmer, and metallic shades.
Aside from those more sparkly shades, the formula was blendable, pigmented, easy to work with, and lasted an average of eight hours on me (without a primer).

Black Bow #2
Black Bow #2 is a light, warmer white with a metallic finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation in a single layer, which adhered well to bare skin and blended out well. The texture was soft, lightly dusty in the pan but not prone to fallout during application, and easy to pick up with a dry brush. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Black Bow #3
Black Bow #3 is a deep black with neutral undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow was richly pigmented with a soft, silky consistency that wasn’t too firmly nor too softly-pressed into the pan, so it adhered evenly, kept its coverage but blended readily along the edges and into the other shades near it. This shade lasted well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Black Bow #5
Black Bow #5 has a softer black base with neutral-to-warm undertones paired with flecks of silver micro-sparkle. The texture was lightly creamy, denser but not too firm or stiff, so it wasn’t difficult to pick up product, and the formula helped the sparkles to adhere better with the base color. There was still a bit of fallout during application as well as during wear, but a fair amount of sparkles made it through the day. It had opaque color coverage that wore well for eight hours before fading.

Wow – another one where shade #2 didn’t totally drag down the rating. These aren’t really my colours but I’m glad it did well. You’re really keeping me holding my breath (my face is turning blue) waiting for your review of New Look!!!!
It’s smexy!! But Colourpop smoke Show is so much better (and cheaper).
I just love these reviews of the new quints, and they’re making me want to splurge on a few. How many are there??
Great quint for smoky eyes!
Usually, I leave silvery eyeshadows alone, but something about this just calls to me. Probably because it includes a silvery mauve and much deeper shades, I believe it would and could work without making my eyes look muddy and dead.
I can dupe this, so won’t get it, although I’m really tempted by the stunning design–it’s so luxuriously glamorous looking, and so glad to see a Dior quint scoring so well!
At least this quint doesn’t have the disastrous shade 2 – I don’t know why it took Dior so long to fix this up and it’s a shame that they didn’t with last few quints.
It is lovely to see that gorgeous mauve shade in there to provide a colour contrast – this was exactly what I was getting at for the Denim and Trafagular palettes.
I think shade 5 is a little too dark, it still could have been a bit softer grey as it will look similar to the matte black on the eye.
Nonetheless, it is a lovely quint and your eye look is beautiful Christine.
This looks like a more grownup, sophisticated version of Colourpop’s Smoke Show/Blowin’Smoke.
This is a lovely smoky palette and I love the mauve shade they chose as a color compliment.
Even though these aren’t my shades, I just love these reviews and the looks you do!
Maybe 20 (??) years ago, MAC had a similar quint (called Tuxedo??) that I loved. So this makes me incredibly happy. Thank you for reviewing it!
No problem! 🙂
