I was surprised to find that I had reviewed over 180 cream/liquid eyeshadows this year–wow! Here are 14 of my absolute top picks from what I tested during the year.

If you’re unfamiliar with how I like to do my year-end favorites, here’s the low down: I pull from the products I reviewed in 2021, regardless of whether they were new, limited edition, or an established range I’ve only just gotten around to reviewing. These are personal favorites, so they may or may not be the highest rated products reviewed during the year (though they will tend to be better rated, naturally!). (You can check out the best of 2020 posts if you missed last year’s.)

Your Year in Review: Cream Eyeshadow Edition

I thought it would be interesting to read through how readers used products throughout the year, what favorites emerged, what products fell by the wayside… so, if you want to join in, copy and paste the questions below and add your answers via a comment!

  • What was your most used cream eyeshadow? Least used?
  • Will you repurchase it or will you look for something new?
  • Was cream eyeshadow a big part of your routine in 2021?

Please keep discussion on-topic, and if you have general feedback, a product review request, an off-topic question, or need technical support, please contact us!

Please help us streamline the comments' section and be more efficient: double-check the post above for more basic information like pricing, availability, and so on to make sure your question wasn't answered already. Comments alerting us to typos or small errors in the post are appreciated (!) but will typically be removed after errors are fixed (unless a response is needed).

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

I don’t own any cream eyeshadows at all, so they weren’t part of my routine during the past year. I just think with my ageing, hooded eyes they would not work so well.
But I have to say that I have been impressed with quite a few this year – CP’s Run Wild and the new Lisa Eldridge’s Anjelica and Bianca.

I feel in love with Rare Beauty’s Nearly Mauve liquid shadow when Selena did a makeup video for Vogue and it got me into liquid shadow. the rest of that shade selection didn’t speak to me though. During a black Friday sale I picked up two of the Haus Labs shadows (Retro and Aphrodite) and love them even more! They’re perfect for quick but glam looks. I may try more from Haus because I love the sparkle, or if Rare introduces more colors.

I fell in love with Moira Cosmetics Diamond Daze shadows. I mean wow! I love the Danessa Myricks shades too but Latte takes a bit to dry down. I really think as people become more comfortable with their technique using creams/liquids – they’ll use them more. They set and sit way better than powder.
