ColourPop Sundays in Silverlake Lippie Stix

ColourPop Sundays in Silverlake Lippie Stix Set ($30.00 for 0.21 oz.) includes six, limited edition shades for summer that go from peach to bright pink. The Lippie Stix formula is a twist-up lipstick that comes in a variety of finishes with most of the finishes designed to have richer coverage. Matte finishes are supposed to be: “full coverage” and “long-wearing” and “ultra-comfortable, while cream finishes are supposed to be “full coverage” with “an ultra creamy feel and look.” The satin finish is ddescribed as “full coverage” and “long-wearing” that has a “hydrating feel.” Lastly, the hyper-glossy finish is supposed to have “full coverage” that “melts” and leaves “tons of moisture” with a “glossy finish.” All of the Lippie Stix have a synthetic, vanilla-like scent that sometimes smells synthetic and leans waxy. I don’t notice the scent applied, and I don’t notice any taste. In general, most of the finishes apply without tugging on the lips, have good coverage, and wear at least four hours, but most aren’t hydrating, while the hyper-glossy finish is a little tacky in feel. A few of the really matte shades are drier and can tug, and they can get drying.

Ace is described as a “light warm pink [with a cream finish].” It’s a light-medium, yellow-toned pink with a creamy finish with a light sheen. It had mostly opaque pigmentation that covered fairly evenly, but it had a slightly thicker consistency that made it pull into lip lines noticeably, which worsened as the color wore on. For me, the color lasted four hours and was neither drying nor hydrating, but it kept getting into the lip lines on my bottom lip over time. Tom Ford Beauty Pink Dusk (P, $50.00) is more shimmery, darker. Tom Ford Beauty Pink Dusk (P, $50.00) is more shimmery, darker. Revlon Pink Lemonade (P, $7.49) is lighter, less pigmented. YSL Nude Beige (1) (P, $34.00) is lighter, glossier. Urban Decay Native (P, $22.00) is darker. YSL Lingerie Pink (7) (P, $34.00) is lighter, brighter, glossier. YSL Lingerie Pink (7) (P, $34.00) is lighter, brighter, glossier. YSL Frivolous Pink (19) (DC, $34.00) is lighter, brighter, cooler, glossier. Bite Beauty Bouquet (P, $24.00) is darker, warmer. Too Faced Melted Peony (P, $21.00) is darker, warmer. Too Faced Melted Peony (P, $21.00) is darker, warmer. Too Faced Melted Marshmallow (P, $21.00) is lighter, brighter, glossier. Marc Jacobs Beauty Pow (600) (P, $28.00) is darker, cooler. MAC Soft Savour (LE, $16.00) is more muted. Bobbi Brown Pink Kiss (P, $26.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Parker is described as a “mid-tone warm nude [with a matte finish].” It’s a muted, medium rosy brown with warm undertones and a satin finish. It’s not really matte; there’s a definite sheen there that doesn’t go away for a few hours, though you could blot it away without lifting too much color off of the lips. It was opaque in coverage, but the product did seem to emphasize lip lines to a noticeable degree. On me, the color wore well for five hours, was lightly drying over time, and did separate into lip lines just slightly. Givenchy Brun Cachemire (104) (P, $36.00) is darker, brighter. MAC Bad Girl RiRi (LE, $16.00) is darker, less glossy. Estee Lauder Discreet (P, $30.00) is darker, warmer. Estee Lauder Discreet (P, $30.00) is darker, warmer. Too Faced Sweet Maple (P, $22.00) is darker, glossier. MAC Fresh and Frisky (LE, $20.00) is less pigmented, glossier. MAC Fresh and Frisky (LE, $20.00) is less pigmented, glossier. MAC Glamour Era (P, $22.00) is darker, warmer. MAC Mocha (P, $16.00) is darker. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Marion (P, $18.00) is darker, cooler. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Chella is described as a “mid-tone bright peachy coral [with a cream finish].” It’s a brightened, medium coral-orange with warm undertones and a creamy, lightly glossy finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that covered well and lasted for five hours on me. It wasn’t drying or hydrating, but there was minor settling into lip lines after four hours of wear. The consistency is really creamy, so it glides on easily, but there is a slight tackiness to it that seems to prevent it from looking streaky. Givenchy Croisiere Coral (310) (LE, $36.00) is darker, cooler, less glossy. NARS Lodhi (P, $25.00) is darker, less glossy. MAC Style Surge (P, $22.00) is darker. Tom Ford Beauty James (LE, $32.00) is more shimmery. Tom Ford Beauty Twist of Fate (LE, $50.00) is darker. NARS Juliette (P, $32.00) is darker, cooler. NARS Catherine (P, $32.00) is darker, brighter. MAC Style Approved (LE, $22.00) is darker, warmer. Bite Beauty Centifolia (LE, $28.00) is glossier. Sephora Collection Samba (LE, $12.50) is darker, brighter. Too Faced Melted Coral (P, $21.00) is brighter. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Kimber (P, $18.00) is darker, warmer. bareMinerals Fall in Love (LE, $20.00) is more muted. Bite Beauty Heather (P, $28.00) is darker, cooler. Chanel Misia (418) (P, $36.00) is darker. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Thirsty is described as a “cool-toned berry pink [with a satin finish].” It’s a softened, medium-dark pink-plum with neutral-to-cool undertones and a satin finish. It had rich, opaque coverage that went on evenly and smoothly. The consistency was creamy enough not to tug but didn’t feel heavy or slide around. It wore for six hours and was slightly drying after four hours of wear, but it didn’t pull into lip lines. Chanel Fougueuse (138) (P, $34.00) is brighter, glossier. Urban Decay Turn On (P, $22.00) is lighter, brighter. MAC Yield to Love (LE, $16.00) is darker, warmer. Givenchy Hibiscus Exclusif (302) (P, $36.00) is lighter, brighter, glossier. Chanel Rayonnante (145) (P, $34.00) is brighter. ColourPop Sweet-Thing (LE, $5.00) is lighter. Urban Decay Sheer Ladyflower (P, $20.00) is darker, less pigmented, warmer. Estee Lauder Reckless (P, $30.00) is darker, brighter, glossier. MAC Nouvelle Vogue (LE, $16.00) is lighter, warmer. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Pasties is described as a “bright cool-toned magenta [with a hyper-glossy finish].” It’s a medium-dark, fuchsia magenta with cool, blue undertones and a glossy finish. It had mostly opaque pigmentation that covered fairly evenly, despite having a thicker, more emollient texture. It has more weight to it than the other finishes, but it wasn’t drying at all (I wouldn’t call it hydrating, though!). It lasted for five hours and left behind a stain. There are a lot of dupes for this type of shade with very matte finishes, but there are still plenty of dupes that are satin or shinier. Maybelline Electric Fuchsia (LE, $7.49) is lighter, brighter, less glossy. Maybelline Hot Plum (P, $7.49) is darker, less glossy. Urban Decay Crush (LE, $22.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer. NARS Michiyo (P, $32.00) is less glossy. MAC Lust Extract (LE, $17.00) is lighter. Too Faced Melted Fuchsia (P, $21.00) is brighter, less glossy. Givenchy Rose Perfecto (209) (P, $36.00) is lighter, brighter. Bite Beauty Violet (P, $24.00) is lighter, brighter, less glossy. NARS Full Frontal (LE, $26.00) is lighter, more muted, less glossy. Urban Decay Anarchy (P, $22.00) is cooler, less glossy. Guerlain Fluo Stiletto (662) (LE, $37.00) is lighter, brighter, less glossy. Maybelline Orchid Ecstasy (730) (P, $7.49) is less pigmented, less glossy. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

Cougar is described as a “bright pinky-red [with a matte finish].” It’s a bold, brightened, medium-dark fuchsia-red with cool, pink undertones and a mostly matte finish. It was richly pigmented with just enough slip that it didn’t tug much at lips and didn’t catch on the lips’ imperfections. It wore for eight hours, but it started to feel drying after five hours of wear. Marc Jacobs Beauty Voila! (120) (P, $30.00) is lighter. Urban Decay Catfight (P, $22.00) is darker, warmer. Guerlain Rose Grenat (864) (LE, $51.00) is lighter, glossier. Bite Beauty Crianza (P, $28.00) is lighter, brighter. Estee Lauder Tumultuous Pink (P, $30.00) is brighter. MAC Pleasure Bomb (LE, $16.00) is cooler. Too Faced Jelly Bean (P, $22.00) is glossier. Guerlain Gladys (78) (P, $51.00) is darker, glossier. Tom Ford Beauty Cooper (LE, $32.00) is more shimmery, darker, more muted, cooler. Lipstick Queen Play It (P, $50.00) is lighter, brighter. Too Faced Melted Candy (P, $21.00) is lighter, brighter. ColourPop Freshman (LE, $5.00) is more shimmery. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

I think I’ve finally admitted to myself that as cool as these lippies seem, and as pretty as some of the colors are…. honestly, the formula just isn’t all that fantastic for me. Except for Topanga (which I need to layer over a lot of balm to be comfortable), I’m just not reaching for the ones I have. At All. I guess I’m more of a Tarte LipSurgence/Almay Butter Kiss kind of girl (still addicted to the shadows though!).

I like this set. All wearable colors and I can see the same person wearing all of them. I have tried a few of the finishes and sadly I just don’t like them much (sad because the price point and color selection is pretty great). Staying power is good but they just don’t look or feel smooth on me. I had a few on my list for fall (Lumiere, Brink, LBB) that I was excited about because they seemed like outlets from my Nars Audacious desires (Anna, Jane, Charlotte, among others) all for less than the price of one Nars! But I think I am better off buying what I really want or I’ll end up wasting more money (since ColourPop can’t be returned) on all of them. Even for drugstore prices I much prefer the Revlon Super Lustrous line. And for a few more bucks I’d rather buy MAC. Anyway just my experience 🙂

Ginny Avatar

I do find that thinner formulas do nothing to protect my lips from becoming dry and rough. They look so good on you though–jealous! But as I’ve said I’m thoroughly impressed with their cheek products.

Nicole Avatar

I agree. I am pretty unimpressed with most of their lippie stix compared to their blushes and eye shadows. I have a lot of all three. I pulled some of the lippe stix out that I purchased around Dec. I noticed some of them seem to be different- meaning they don’t seem to be the same shade they once were and the dryness issue is worse now. I really like the new shade Tootsie. I wish I could find a HE dupe for it.I know that sounds ridiculous. But, the color is really unique. So,if you have any ideas Christine, LMK please. But, I think, I am going to be done with the lippie stix now unless their is a reformulation.

Nicole Avatar

Yeah, I’m wondering if I had left the tops not snapped tightly on or something. What can I expect for $5 anyway when I turn around and pay $50. I shouldn’t complain . They do state a 1 year shelf life on their website.

Kiss & Make-up Avatar

Oh my gosh, look at Chella! :-O I really need to think my soon-to-be-made ColourPop order through more it seems, I don’t want to miss out on the best stuff! *adds Chella to the list*

Jane Avatar

I was just using my tiny mini Urban Decay Ladyflower this morning and lamenting that they never made a full size version in their normal formula. Thirsty may be the replacement I’ve been searching for.

Codename Duchess Avatar

I wish some of these were available at singles! I really, really like the look of Thirsty and Cougar, but don’t think I could wear any of the warmer shades in this set.

Jessica T Avatar

The price is reasonable but it’s hard to decide when I love 3 of the colors and am iffy about the other 3. Thanks for the great post!

Alice Avatar

I love Cougar! I wish it was available as a single. I’ve found that the ColourPop matte lip formula works well for me, but the other formulas have been drying. Thanks for the swatches!

Sheb Avatar

I bought this set (ok, I pretty much bought most of the ColourPop summer collection because ColourPop is SO addictive) but I haven’t even touched it. Eep, looks so pretty on you and now I’m inspired to try it out immediately. 🙂

_An_ Avatar

Instantly liking Thirsty! And I thought of UD’s Ladyflower too (which I don’t own), but not the sheer version. This shade makes me want to purchase something from ColourPop for the first time, but I’m not liking Ace or Parker in this set. The other shades are okay, just not that exciting.

Wish Thirsty was sold separately.

Nancy T Avatar

While I love the ColourPop eyeshadows and cheek products, I have a funny feeling that I wouldn’t like their Lippy Stix. Probably upon reading that they have a thin texture? And yet they appear quite pigmented and very pretty! I *may* try just one, and see.

Sharon Avatar

I’m in love with Chella, but can’t seem to find any of these colours on their site for some reason! Are they sold out already?
