Of Quartz

ColourPop Of Quartz 9-Pan Pressed Powder Palette ($14.00 for 0.32 oz.) is a new, nine-pan eyeshadow palette that leans cooler-toned and a little taupe/gray. I think that Mine Games (first shade in the palette) could have been cooler-toned to really make the rest of the palette sing. Overall, the quality of the eyeshadows was high; they were pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing with a couple of shades being a little powdery or slightly drier but not to the point of being that hard to use.

Mine Games

Mine Games is a light, yellowy beige with strong, warm undertones and a metallic finish. The consistency was slightly drier and more powdery in its base, so I felt like it did not apply with as much shine as expected as a result, and there was some fallout during blending. It had opaque pigmentation that lasted well for eight hours on me.

FURTHER READING: Formula Overview for details on general performance and characteristics (like scent).

Formula Overview

$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.

The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

I still like ColourPop, but holy crap I wish they’d give it a rest with the palettes, *palettes*, MORE AND BIGGER PALETTES, ALL PALETTES ALL THE TIME — while mostly neglecting their single shadow range? Which sucks, bc there’re one or two shades here (and one in Mandalorian) that I’d really like to have, but I’m not buying nine shadows just to get ONE that I want, struggling to depot the stupid thing, and then having 85% of my purchase as Leftover Waste that I’ve gotta find somebody who wants it or just throw it away.

Here’s an idea, CP — 1) stop effing doing this. 2) Make EMPTY palette containers with your cute tie-in art and sell them alone, or as a package deal with nine you-pick-’em single shadows, which you can curate suggestions for from a combo of a few new LE shades specially designed for this collab plus the whole [MUCH EXPANDED, PLS] library of “permanent” single shadows. That would let people be excited about a new release themed to something they like, but without having to buy yet another whole palette with yet another matte taupe, yet another matte black, yet another peachy-gold shimmer, yet another …. etc. 3) Profit *and* minimize waste.

Mariella Avatar

This is my kind of palette – I love all the “boring” neutrals. This actually reminds me of the Mandelorian one you just previewed; they’re awfully similar, at least in the photo of the palette. I don’t know how (or even why) ColourPop keeps up this constant outpouring of new shadows, new palettes… But if I could get my hands on this one, in store, it would be in my makeup drawer NOW!

Helene Avatar

This is a nice looking palette, but as others have said, it feel a bit much with two really dark shades, black and almost black. They should keep the the deep gray and replace the black with something else, a silver shimmer perhaps.
The shade that I find most interesting is Ore, but I have UD Mushroom on my WL since earlier this week, so I’ll probably pass on this little gem.

kjh Avatar

I really like this, but need it not. Suspect I can dupe the feel with Fame and Fox. But wonderful to see cooler shades. And yes, Mine Games should have been a silver variation, rather than a goldy beige that contrasts too highly with a shades of gray palette. No pun intended.

We try to approve comments within 24 hours (and reply to them within 72 hours) but can sometimes get behind and appreciate your patience! 🙂 If you have general feedback, product review requests, off-topic questions, or need technical support, please contact us directly. Thank you for your patience!
