ColourPop Nightmare Before Christmas Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Nightmare Before Christmas
ColourPop Nightmare Before Christmas 12-Pan Pressed Powder Shadow Palette ($18.00 for 0.36 oz.) is a new, limited edition eyeshadow palette that includes six matte eyeshadows, one sparkly matte eyeshadow, and five shimmery eyeshadows. They were pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing overall with only one shade that I’d consider to be an actual miss with a few others being a little powdery during use but nothing that resulted in poorer application. I felt like they performed consistently with ColourPop’s formula.

LELimited Edition. $22.00.
Zero
Zero is a bright, warmer white with a metallic sheen. The eyeshadow had opaque color payoff in a single layer, which applied evenly to bare skin and diffused with ease along the edges. The texture was lightly creamy, moderately dense, but it picked up well with a dry brush. It stayed on nicely for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Formula Overview
$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce
The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.
The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Meant to Be
Meant to Be is a light, mushroom-taupe with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was more velvety, a little denser and more substantial, which resulted in opaque color coverage that adhered evenly, blended out well, and wasn’t prone to sheering out too readily. It wore well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Dear Friend
Dear Friend is a deep, mauvy-brown with muted, warm undertones and a matte finish. This was an intriguing shade; it was mauve, it was taupe, it was brown, but it fit in best with mauves because it was too grayish and muted to fit well with most browns but then too warm and not gray enough for taupes. It’s not as rosy as I’d normally expect when classifying as a mauve, though. I love when a color doesn’t want to fit neatly into a category!
It had opaque pigmentation paired with a soft, blendable texture that was lightly powdery in the pan but easy to work with on bare skin and had very little in the way of fallout. It lasted well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

In My Bones is a deep, bluish-gray with strong, cool undertones and a matte finish. Pumpkin Patch is a light-medium, yellowy peach with strong, warm undertones and a metallic finish. The eyeshadow had opaque color payoff paired with a slightly thicker, denser consistency that was best applied by pressing onto the skin or with a fingertip/dampened brush to avoid fallout. It wore well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Dr. Finkelstein
Dr. Finkelstein is a light-medium, bluish-purple with subtle, cool undertones and a sparkly finish. It had a drier, looser consistency that resulted in more semi-sheer to medium pigmentation that was hard to build up. I’d recommend using the eyeshadow with a dampened brush, which helped it go on more smoothly and evenly. It wore well for seven hours but had light fallout over time.

What's This
What’s This is a bright, deeper orange with moderate, warm undertones and barely-there flecks of gold micro-shimmer over a matte finish. The micro-shimmer was so faint that it didn’t translate, which ensured that it didn’t contribute to fallout. The texture was somewhat powdery in the pan, so you’ll want to use a light-hand when working with it. The product had opaque color coverage that adhered evenly and lasted well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Sandy Claws
Sandy Claws is a bright, medium-dark fuchsia pink with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. (It’s almost a “warm” fuchsia.) It had rich color payoff paired with a soft, slightly thinner texture that wasn’t powdery nor too firmly-pressed in the pan. It applied evenly and blended out without difficulty along the edges. This shade showed signs of fading after eight hours of wear and left a faint stain behind.

Everybody Scream
Everybody Scream is a brighter, reddish-berry with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly full pigmentation that was easily built up to full coverage with a second layer. The texture was slightly drier and thinner compared to most of the brand’s matte eyeshadows these days, but this didn’t affect the application as it remained blendable on bare skin. It wore nicely for eight hours before fading a bit and stained my lid slightly after removal.

Halloween Town is a dark black with neutral-to-cool undertones with flecks of pink and teal micro-shimmer over a matte finish. The consistency was moderately powdery in the pan, so you’ll want to use a light hand and likely build up color to avoid fallout. On its own, it did have full pigmentation in a single layer. I like the deep matte shades, think I’m going to pick this up for my daughter. It’s in my cart need to pull the trigger.
I am sort of loving this. Don’t know why but it is pretty. Not sure about a couple of the shades but it is actually the neutrals that are appealing to me. I particularly love the shades, Zero, Meant to Be, Dear Friend and the shimmer of Frog’s Breath.
I think the color story is quite pretty, even if the pink-heavy feel of it doesn’t make sense (to me) for the theme, lol! I like some of the grungier neutral mattes a lot.
Yes, what is up with the name. Based on the name, I likely wouldn’t have actually looked at it. Oh well, I think I have decided to pick it up. There is enough here and at ColourPop’s prices, I would regret not picking it up.
A pretty good rated palette from CP – it’s a shame that the ‘hero’ shade, the purple, was the poorest one.
Such an interesting and unique color story going on with this palette! However, I’m fairly certain that I can put together the shades here with some accuracy with what I have, but it sure is gorgeous.
I cannot get over how tempted I have been of late with all CP offerings.. highly unusual. Frog’s Breath is so beautifully done on a muted duochrome where the dupes do not look as refined. I also love Dear Friend which is a near dupe for my favourite ABH single which I no longer have. I think this iteration is actually more interesting. Lastly, Christmas Town.. definitely not my yuge, but so danged pretty and festive looking.
One day, those sparkle mattes will be perfected… almost feel like they need to be more like a cream-powder formula a la ND. Not quite as matte but still more satiny but with more binder.
I’m so torn when it comes to this palette, I both like and don’t like it. There are colours I’d never want to wear, well there’s one (orange) and colours I love to wear. And then there’s Dear Friend and Frog’s Breath that are so interesting.
It’s hard to decide, this time.
Frog’s Breathe all by itself!!!
