ColourPop Marshmallow & Petit Four Ultra Satin Liquid Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches

ColourPop Marshmallow Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick

ColourPop Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a “lightweight, bold lipstick with a satin finish” that is “extra intense colour saturation” and “long-wearing,” but the brand is quick to note that it is “not completely kiss proof.” The consistency is very light to lightweight with a thin to mousse-like consistency–they feel a little heavier going on than the Ultra Matte formula, but they don’t feel heavy on. They dry down somewhat, but it isn’t a full, flat dry down like matte liquid lipsticks, and when you press your lips together, there is moderate tackiness there, but I didn’t notice any lifting or separating of color by doing so. Thus far, they have been extremely long-wearing and comfortable to wear for the most part–it’s after ten hours or so that I notice my lips feeling a little dry–but six hours into wear and the colors have looked good post-meals/post-drinking. I think if you like the idea of longer-wearing, mostly matte lip color but find most liquid lipsticks too drying or too flat while not needing an ultra-hydrating formula, you might like these.

ColourPop Marshmallow Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is described as a “greyed out lavender.” It’s a muted, light-medium lavender with strong, cool gray undertones and a satin finish. It had rich, opaque color payoff and was easy to apply and get smooth, even coverage. The color was still going strong after eight hours of wear and started to get a little drying right around that point. I was surprised that the color didn’t pull into lip lines, nor did the color fade unevenly, despite going through two meals and two cups of coffee. KVD Beauty Zero (LE, $21.00) is cooler (90% similar). KVD Beauty Zero (P, $19.00) is darker (90% similar). MAC Fresh Amour (LE, $19.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Illamasqua Posture (P, $24.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). MAC Ionized (LE, $25.00) is lighter, glossier (80% similar). KVD Beauty Ayesha (P, $20.00) is darker (80% similar). KVD Beauty Requiem (P, $20.00) is warmer (80% similar). MAC Galaxy Grey (DC, $21.00) is darker, cooler (80% similar). NYX Playdate (P, $6.00) is warmer, glossier (80% similar). ColourPop Petit Four Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is described as a “deep charcoal grey.” It’s a rich, medium-dark bluish-gray with cool undertones and a satin sheen. It had a little more shine than most shades in the range, though it wasn’t glossy, and it was a true satin finish after two to three hours of wear. The color was still mostly intact after eight hours of wear with very minimal fading. The formula was comfortable to wear for six to seven hours and became clingier after that. Anastasia Smoke (P, $18.00) is lighter, less glossy (90% similar). MAC Halsey (LE, $19.00) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). Smashbox Punked (P, $21.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Melt Cosmetics Space Cake (P, $19.00) is lighter, cooler (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

I’m really feeling these two colors. I love that Marshmallow is slightly muted and not so plaster-looking as many pastels are. Petit Four would probably be near-black on me but I’m still into it. Would be good for cosplay as a black and white movie star lol.

I really want to try colors like petit for or nyx stone fox but I’m a little intimidated. They are really out of my norm and I’m not sure what type of eye look or blush to pair with them. I don’t want to look like a crazy clown lol.

Trina, I find that blue-gray pairs well with bronze shades on the eyes.

My favorite look with blue-gray is a wash of shimmery bronze on the lids, no eyeliner, and light mascara. Really minimal. I use a warm, matte nude blush such as Tarte Exposed on cheeks, temples, bridge of nose, and tip of the chin. The warmer tones help keep the gray from draining the face.

I think it also looks great with a dramatic smokey eye or a warm brown eye with a pop of yellow-orange, but that might be something to work up to. 😉

You are so awesome! Thank you for sharing your ideas. It sounds gorgeous I’m going to give it a try. I love bronze eyes i would of never thought to pair it with a lip color like this. I really appreciate your help! Xoxo

I didn’t buy the lipstick, but I did order Petit Four lip liner, to mix with my NYX Wicked lippies in Cold Hearted and Stone Cold. I figured it’s a budget -friendly way to try a new, edgy look, we’ll see how it goes!

These would probably look like absolute death on my complexion, but I love them! I’m also pleasantly surprised at the quality for these type of shades, and at this price point. Looking forward to more reviews of this line!

“I think if you like the idea of longer-wearing, mostly matte lip color but find most liquid lipsticks too drying ” Welp! That means I 1000% really want to try these now! I love my KVD/Stila/UltraMatte but dang they’re drying if you wear them all the time. I can’t wait for a restock! I desperately want Dopey

Tova J Avatar

Wow I’m so getting some of these lippies! Maybe not these shades but the formula seems great. I love long wearing but comfortable lipsticks. I think Nabla’s lipsticks are one of my favorite formulas that could be similar, they’re very creamy and last pretty good through eating etc. I’ve worn KvD Lolita today and my lips are horribly dry. Maybe I should go remove it..

these colors look tempting! … on a side note, i feel a bit jealous that you can pull off every color you try on! thats so cool! thanks for the reviews!

I bought 5 when they were released panda, the rabbit, London fog, lyin king and frick and frack. I am a HUGE colourpop supporter and I have to say this is my favorite formula, I like these better than the ultra matte’s. I don’t mind that they aren’t as long wearing. I think the satins have a great wear time, the formula is excellent and they are pretty close to a matte finish without the overly drying feeling. I love that colourpop makes trends in makeup affordable. They are such an amazing brand. So happy you gave these good reviews!

I ordered a few along with matching pencils over the weekend after seeing Kathleen Lights YouTube video and she says the same thing. I left these two out along with some of the super dark ones. Not sure if I can pull these off myself. I’m really super happy CP has done this though!

Celia Avatar

I’m really loving mine so far! I’ve only gotten to do full day tests on Marshmallow and Petit Four but they’re both so great. I’m trying Panda today, The Rabbit tomorrow, and then Lyin King. I also picked up the pencils for Marshmallow, Petit Four, Dopey, and Lyin’ King and so far they’re great too. So glad these were a hit for me since I dislike the vast majority of their Ultra Mattes. These are so much better! I’m surprised by how very long and well they wear with or w/o pencil. The dry-down surprised me too. They go from mousse satin to sort of tacky to a sort of classic soft matte. The colors are great and this formula is a winner. Recommended for sure.

I got Marshmallow today! I’m so excited to try it, but I have to wait until it thaws completely, it sat in my mailbox in 25F weather all day!

I have a couple grays but I still might pick up Petit Four when it comes back in stock anyways, and I really want the matching pencil too (I should have ordered that with my last order haha oh well).

Celia Avatar

Just so you’re prepared for it, I ordered the pencil thinking it would be awesome to use with my other grays as well. And it is and I’m glad to have it! But I wish it was slightly more gray than it is. It’s more of a slightly muted black-gray charcoal, pretty heavily on the black side. I have to play with it more and it definitely works great with the color, but just anticipate more of a charcoal-black than a true gray pencil. It’s definitely darker than the actual Ultra Satin by a good amount. Nothing wrong with that, just so people know.

Kayle Avatar

I was a bit worried at first because I thought these would be a lot glossier, but they seem similar to the Nyx Liquid Suedes and judging from your swatches they’re still pretty darn matte-looking so I’ll definitely be picking some up! I can’t wait to see your reviews of Toolips, Mess Around and Tansy.

Ermigawd ~ I KNEW I should have picked these up with my order last week. So glad they tested well, they’re so unique. I gotta get Petit Four, I want to try MUFA Beetle as a topper for it. I bet Beetle would look cool as a topper for Marshmallow too. <3

KJH Avatar

Love both of these. Subtract a couple of decades from my age, and I’d jump for both…and a couple of decades would be pushing 50. OMBELFG! Don’t try to translate… Might be able to get away withMarshmallow, without too many WTF stares, but half my wardrobe is dark charcoal. Love the irony of a conservative color in an unexpected place. If I were young, Petit Four would be my personal shade. Though, I never saw a petit four in this colorway. Is there a modern meaning I don’t get? Just love it.

Celia Avatar

I say go for it! My mom’s around 60 and didn’t think too much about using bright colors until I recommend she start selling Portland Black Lipstick Company at her vintage store. She wound up getting really into them and now pops by my place every so often to borrow more “unique” shades from me (she likes PBLC and ColourPop in the Ultra Satin formula [not Ultra Matte, that’s too drying for her tastes but she’s already borrowed Petit Four and Panda from me. She’s wearing Panda from this line today, actually). She hasn’t tried on Marshmallow yet but she wants to and really loved both Panda and Petit Four. Gray and lavender are her favorite lip colors for me hehe.

And yeah, like Christine said no new meaning. Think they just liked the juxtaposition of a pretty little cake and a rich deep gray.

Laura Avatar

I’m such a fan of Colourpop that I had to order these, plus, ummm a few more (The Rabbit, Frick and Frack, Panda…) even before your review and I am glad it’s a good one! My question: how are you storing shadows/pigments/cheek/highlighters. I am finding it hard to store them, as they are multiplying in my drawers!

Fran Avatar

I think these shades are really pretty and interesting! I want to try them. They could be fantastic mixing shades even if I don’t wear them all that often. It continues to amaze me how so many different colors look great on you, Christine!

Amanda Avatar

Thanks for this – I wondering how Marshmallow compared to KVD Ayesha and it’s totally different! And I think Petit Four is surprisingly wearable.

Nico Avatar

Hi Christine! I was wondering if you ate anything oily while wearing these? Also, how well did they hold up after eating? Cos for the ultra mattes, I definitely had to retouch the center part of the lips. I was thinking either this formula will mostly come off or it’ll just need a little blending. What do you think?
