ColourPop Mar Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Mar
ColourPop Mar 9-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($12.00 for 0.36 oz.) is one of two newly released powder eyeshadow palettes released by the brand for their summer collection. If you’re someone who likes a lot of mattes, you may find this combination to be too shimmer-heavy. I liked most of the shades, and I felt like I could come up with some color combinations, but it did take some thinking to blend the cooler shades with all the very warm-toned hues in the palette. I would have loved to have seen less beach, more sea in this color scheme; like a shifting, shimmering blue, frothy silver, kelp green, dirty pewter for sand, and so on.

El Rey
El Rey is a soft, golden peach with warm, yellow undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good pigmentation but definitely applied and looked several shades lighter in practice than it did in the pan, so keep that in mind when thinking about color combinations! The texture was soft, slightly drier and dusty in the pan, but I didn’t have any trouble with the application on my lid or diffusing the edges. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.
The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Wild One
Wild One is a medium-dark, orange-toned copper with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had nearly opaque color payoff that applied fairly evenly to bare skin and blended out nicely along the edges. It had a creamier, more emollient feel by touch, and as a result, it seemed to apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush than a dry brush. This shade stayed on well for eight hours on me.

Detour
Detour is a medium-dark cobalt blue with cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. It seemed to have the slightest sheen overall, but on my lid, it looked more matte than satin. The texture was soft, slightly thin and a touch dusty in the pan, but it applied evenly with opaque coverage and blended out with little effort. It lasted nicely for eight hours.

Boozy
Boozy is a bright, medium tangerine orange with strong, warmer yellow undertones and a golden sheen paired with a metallic finish. The texture was soft, moderately creamy and had a little bit of noticeable slip, which worried me initially as this can sometimes result in patchiness or less coverage on the lid, but it applied well and had opaque coverage in a single layer. It wore well for eight hours on me.

Gridlock
Gridlock is a brighter, medium blue-leaning teal with a metallic sheen. It had a denser, more cream-like texture that was a little thick and had some slip, and like with Boozy, I wasn’t sure it was going to go on well, but it did! The eyeshadow applied with opaque color coverage on my lid and blended out nicely with little effort. It stayed on without fading for eight hours on me.

HWY
HWY is a light, mint green with subtle, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good color coverage, though it needed to be applied over a primer or used with a dampened brush to get opaque coverage out of it. The consistency was slightly dusty in the pan but it blended out just fine and didn’t seem to be prone to sheering out or having fallout. It wore well for just over seven and a half hours on me.

Top Down
Top Down is a deep brown with subtle, neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. The color coverage was nearly opaque in a single layer with a soft, slightly powdery texture (mostly in the pan) that applied evenly and blended out nicely. I noticed slight fading after eight hours of wear.

My Way
My Way is a medium bronze with warm, slightly orange undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had rich color payoff in a single layer, but the powder felt more loosely pressed in the pan so there was some powderiness and a bit of fallout when applied. I recommend using this over a primer or using a dampened brush for better adhesion. The color lasted for just over eight hours on me overall.

I don’t need this, it makes no sense for me to get it…and yet I totally want it!
Resist!
It’s $12! Less than a movie!
I ordered both palettes as soon as they launched. Down the CP rabbit hole I go again after saying I wasn’t buying more! They’re usually painfully slow in shipping but this time they did ok. I should have mine this week. I’m curious to see if mine is as good as yours was. Thanks for your review.
Fingers crossed you enjoy yours!
I love the looks of this. If I hadn’t already bought the UD Beached palette, I would be all over this. I love warm tones with blues and teals.
Beached is so in the same vein!
If I had to pick one I’d go with Beached. Those blues just about kill me.
The blues in Beached are absolutely stunning.
I think Beached is a much better value palette Rachel, too many similar shades here whereas with the Beached palette you get that gorgeous Plunge shade.
I think you’re right.
Colourpop continues to impress me! I’m so happy this scored well because I planned on grabbing it regardless based on the amazing performance of my latest purchases from them. I can’t wait to add this to my growing Colourpop collection!
Hope you enjoy it, Alana!
Seems to be the running theme this summer, doesn’t it? Teal/coral/bronze/copper combos. I don’t mind, but I already now have both UD palettes that have this summer’s trend, Beached and Born To Run.
And same as you, I really would have much appreciated and loved a truly “sea” themed palette with the shades you described so perfectly!
Especially since Sol is warm-toned–I feel like Mar definitely could have been cooler-toned or more colorful.
So I read your review, Christine and this is why you should start your own makeup line. Your description for a better color scheme is right on. I would buy that in a heart beat. This palette has some nice shades in it but I am not 100% sold. I would like a few more mattes and as you said, some different shade options rather than the same old tans/browns, beiges. I really wish their was a nice green or two.
My pleasure as always, Deborah! 🙂
“I would have loved to have seen less beach, more sea in this color scheme; like a shifting, shimmering blue, frothy silver, kelp green, dirty pewter for sand, and so on”
My thoughts exactly! Give me a beautiful cool-toned watery color palette please and thank you.
What made it odd to me is that Sol is obviously very warm-toned so it makes more sense to me to make Sol warm-toned, Mar cool-toned… then they could be worn together or separately.
I had the same sort of thought when they announced the palettes – half the colors in Sol and Mar seemed nearly the same, with Sol just having extra pops of pink and Mar having the few blue/greens. I can get overlap between palettes in general, if they’re trying to make palettes that people can use with pulling in other eyeshadow shades…but when you’re releasing two palettes as a deliberate pair, you’d think you’d want them to have very little overlap in color scheme!
Glad to see that the palettes scored well, though…means I can continue to hope that when they eventually release a fully cool-toned palette (trends will shift one day, right?) they’ll do it well, haha.
That would be my thought, too.
Sometimes it feels like the Powers that Be at ColourPop passed down a decree that every palette should include warm neutrals.
Sweet rating!! Couldn’t resist this at this awesome price. Thanks Christine!! Now to resist that Chanel quad! Or not!
I’m sure you have dupes for the Chanel quad!
Another pretty good palette from Colour Pop, but I do think that lots of the bronzy shades are fairly similar to each other – there doesn’t seem to be a lot of contrast between 3-4 of them at least. However the brand did nail the blue shade really well and that’s difficult for most to get right.
Gorgeous eye look Christine.
This reminds me of the Kylie Blue Honey palette, which I wanted but never bought ? I actually like the gold and bronze with teal and blue. It’s a gorgeous and unexpected scheme in my opinion!
This wasn’t even on my radar, but after reading your thoughts now I’m thinking I want it. I have Dream Street and My Little Pony so I know I love the formula and of course I love the price too.
heyy is the Mar palette a limited edition product???
As far as I know, it is! In general, most CP seems to be limited life… they’ll restock but they discontinue a lot of products regularly!
