ColourPop Hola Chola Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Hola Chola
ColourPop Hola Chola 12-Pan Pressed Powder Shadow Palette ($18.00 for 0.36 oz.) is a new eyeshadow palette that features all matte finishes across more muted, neutral hues. For someone on the hunt for a slew of more muted neutrals with a good range from light to dark, this might be a real gem. I can see it being a workhorse palette for matte and neutral lovers. All of the shades were pigmented and long-wearing with a few shades that were a little powdery or required more effort to blend out. At a glance, it gave me Viseart Neutral Mattes vibes, but I think this palette runs deeper.

Shy Girl
Shy Girl is a muted white with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. It appeared yellowish in the pan, but swatched much lighter, brighter, and cooler. The texture was dense, more substantial, and almost cream-like, though there was some powderiness present in the pan. It had opaque pigmentation that applied evenly with a touch of fallout if I wasn’t careful. It wore nicely for eight hours before fading visibly.

Formula Overview

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.
The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Lil Smiley
Lil Smiley is a light, buttery yellow with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was smooth, dense, and felt more substantial than most of the brand’s mattes, which gave it a bit of creaminess. It had opaque pigmentation that applied evenly to bare skin and had almost no fallout, which was a surprised based on the color and finish. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Chula
Chula is a light-medium brown with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had opaque color payoff in a single layer, which adhered evenly to bare skin and blended out well. Chingona
Chingona is a muted, medium-dark red with subtle, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had ultra-fine shimmer that didn’t impact the finish but seemed to help the blending. The texture was soft, a little drier to the touch compared to most shades in the palette, but it was blendable on my skin. It had opaque color coverage that stayed on nicely for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Ruca
Ruca is a medium-dark brown with subtle, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. There was barely-there, ultra-fine pearl through it, but it helped with blending while it retained its more matte look in practice. The texture was smooth to the touch, a little thinner but didn’t prove to be problematic during application as it blended out well. It had opaque color coverage that lasted well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Gata
Gata is a medium, bluish-gray with a semi-matte finish. The texture was slightly thinner and drier, which resulted in a powder that was harder to really diffuse and blend perfectly. It was workable with enough effort or cheating it by using another shade to help diffuse the edge (like one of the lighter browns in the palette). It had good color coverage that wore well for eight hours before I noticed signs of fading.

Sad Girl
Sad Girl is a deep taupe with cool, purplish undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage that was buildable to opaque coverage with less than a second layer. The texture was lightly powdery in the pan, a little thin, but it adhered decently bare skin. The issue I had was that it wasn’t as blendable as ideal, and it seemed more prone to emphasizing skin texture compared to other shades. It stayed on nicely for eight hours before fading noticeably.

This does seem practical. I just ran through all the shades and I’ve only got 3 dupes (all in other palettes). Will have to think about this as I don’t wear mattes on my lower lid at all. I do wear mattes in proven shades already to deal with deep set eyes (move crease up) and transition. So that only leaves wearing different matte colors in the outer V and that would mean, for me, darker shades. Weighing all these factors, I’ll likely not get this matte palette. Still would be good for someone just starting out or who wants all neutral matte shades for travel.
Viseart Neutral Mattes. Urban Decay Ultimate Basics, Stila Mind Pallette. Milani Most Loved Mattes.
Lovely assortment of shades.
Impressive for an all matte palette at DS pricing! I’d been considering getting the Viseart Neutral Matte palette for awhile, just to have a wide array of these sorts of mattes in one convenient place. But now that this one exists and has very good quality as well, I think I’ll do this one instead.
It’s hard to find a decent matte palette, with all the shades of very good quality or more. This one is perfect for matte lovers – and has such a wide range of neutral shades. A good one from CP.
I do really like this palette . Its a neutral but the shades are so nice and not really what you see all the time . I think this would work great with a lot of the bright eyeshadows I have .
This is a good range of browns, and by being all-matte it stands out a bit among the constant deluge of CP releases. This whole collection seems nicely thought-out and cohesive.
Your looks are awesome, Christine!
I’m wearing a lot of matte looks these days. There’s something mysterious and refined with muted matte looks. I’d grab but Biba and Safari and I’ve only just scratched the surface with these two.
Thank you, Wednesday!
Oh I looooove that black/red look you did!
Thank you, Z!
