ColourPop Dopey & Frick 'n' Frack Ultra Satin Liquid Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
ColourPop Dopey Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick
ColourPop Dopey Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is described as a “dusty mauve.” It’s a muted, medium mauve with neutral-to-cool undertones and a satin finish. It had fantastic pigmentation with a thin, smooth texture that applied easily with even coverage that didn’t emphasize lip lines. You might have thought that a lighter shade wouldn’t wear as long, but the color just kept going on and on and on; I wore this all-day, and there was still 75% color after 12 hours of wear (including two meals) and it was fading evenly. The formula was comfortable to wear, and my lips didn’t start feeling a little dry until after ten hours of just wearing this product. Pat McGrath Madame Greige (DC, $40.00) is lighter, glossier (90% similar). Tarte Salt Lyfe (P, $21.00) is darker, warmer, glossier (90% similar). Tarte Cabana Boy (P, $22.00) is warmer (90% similar). Bite Beauty Cava (DC, $24.00) is lighter, glossier (80% similar). Bite Beauty Cancer (LE, $26.00) is darker, glossier (85% similar). ColourPop Last Call (LE, $7.00) is lighter, glossier (90% similar). MAC Till Tomorrow (DC, $18.00) is darker, glossier (85% similar). Bite Beauty #050 (P, $18.00) is cooler (85% similar). Makeup Geek Trailblazer (P, $12.00) is cooler (80% similar). NARS Anna (P, $34.00) is darker, warmer, glossier (80% similar). Estee Lauder Tenacious (527) (P, $32.00) is darker, warmer (80% similar). ColourPop Frick ‘n’ Frack Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is described as a “rosy terracotta.” It’s a muted, medium-dark rosy plum with warm undertones and a satin sheen. It had great color payoff that covered the lips with smooth, even color. The texture was thinner but had enough substance that it sat well on the lips and didn’t gravitate or pool into lip lines. The color was still going strong after seven hours of wear and was neither drying nor hydrating. Make Up For Ever C108 (DC, $22.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Hourglass I'm Addicted (P, $34.00) is lighter (90% similar). Bite Beauty Molasses (DC, $26.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). MAC Spank Me Santa (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery, cooler (90% similar). Bite Beauty Chai (DC, $24.00) is cooler, glossier (90% similar). ColourPop Mosh Pit (LE, $7.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (90% similar). Tarte Beach Bum (P, $22.00) is lighter (90% similar). ColourPop Grunge (P, $7.00) is darker (90% similar). ColourPop Calypso (P, $7.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Bite Beauty Brioche (P, $24.00) is cooler (85% similar). ColourPop C'mon Sis (LE, $10.00) is brighter, cooler (85% similar). ColourPop Candy Paint (P, $6.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). MAC Aim to Please (P, $20.00) is brighter (85% similar). Charlotte Tilbury Viva La Vergara (P, $37.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). ColourPop Dr. Facilier (LE, $8.00) is cooler (85% similar). MAC Over the Taupe (P, $26.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). Maybelline Nude Nuance (P, $7.99) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Nude Fudge (LE, $19.00) is cooler (85% similar). ColourPop Daydream (P, $6.00) is darker, cooler (80% similar). Bite Beauty Chai (DC, $26.00) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. FORMULA OVERVIEW | ColourPop Ultra Satin Liquid Lipstick ($6.00 for 0.11 fl. oz.) is supposed to be a “lightweight, bold lipstick with a satin finish” that is “extra intense colour saturation” and “long-wearing,” but the brand is quick to note that it is “not completely kiss proof.” The consistency is very light to lightweight with a thin to mousse-like consistency–they feel a little heavier going on than the Ultra Matte formula, but they don’t feel heavy on. They dry down somewhat, but it isn’t a full, flat dry down like matte liquid lipsticks, and when you press your lips together, there is moderate tackiness there, but I didn’t notice any lifting or separating of color by doing so. Thus far, they have been extremely long-wearing and comfortable to wear for the most part–it’s after ten hours or so that I notice my lips feeling a little dry–but six hours into wear and the colors have looked good post-meals/post-drinking. I think if you like the idea of longer-wearing, mostly matte lip color but find most liquid lipsticks too drying or too flat while not needing an ultra-hydrating formula, you might like these.

Ah I want Dopey so badly but it sold out almost immediately! It looks amazing on you, Christine.
I hope they restock soon!
I haven’t tried every shade I purchased yet but I noticed that dopey left a BRIGHT pink again on my lips (and my hand when it was swatched) did that happen to you?
*****bright pink stain on my lips
I don’t remember it turning bright pink at all!
That happened to me too! We must have gotten a weird batch?
How does Frick ‘n’ Frack compare to KVD Lolita II?
Sorry, I think I just have Lolita, though I don’t remember which version of Lolita I had…
I knew I would like Dopey as soon as I saw it. Getting it isn’t impossible for me but it is relatively pricy considering what you’d pay in the US.
The main problem is that, whenever possible, I test out lip products before buying because a lot of lipsticks, even one claiming to be hydrating, dry out my lips. Medication I’m on makes my mouth and lips perpetually dry so most of the time, for example if I’m at home and not going anywhere, I’ll wear a rich lip balm. So you can see that the price I would have to pay is a lot for something that may well not work out for me. I’d pay the US price to try one but not much more.
I’m a lipstick fiend and I have trouble wearing most of the lipsticks I own now that the new medication was added to my ‘collection’. I put a thin lip balm underneath most lipsticks I wear but more often than not after an hour (if I’m lucky) my lips dry out and the lipstick goes all horrible! If I want to keep wearing it I need to take it all off and start again. If I’m not fussed I’ll take it off and put a good lip balm on.
To round up my rambling I’ll just say that I think I’ll just need to admire these from afar. I made the mistake of buying two Ultra Mattes which, aside from drying, don’t actually stay on my lips anyway. It’s down to me subconsciously licking my lips because, yes, they’re dry! I’ll shut up now. ?
That’s so crazy that the Ultra Mattes don’t stay on your lips!! That’s so interesting. I would say to stay away from these — maybe not unless there were a lot of other things you were going to get from ColourPop and then you’d just get one to try.
Love the Dopey colour, just so not a fan of liquid lipsticks.
Oh, these aren’t like traditional liquid lipsticks at all, they’re more like liquid versions of actual (not matte) lipsticks. They aren’t at all drying, and don’t feel like cement or anything at all. They feel just like a regular lipstick. You should give one a try!
Hey Celesta: not sure if this is applicable for you, but curious if you tend to wear any form of base lip treatment? I think that is my biggest issue with many of the liquid lipsticks I have tried. The combo can often set up for a really disgusting and gross wear off. I have dry lips and I am always wearing some form of lip serum or balm product under lipstick. Thx 🙂
Hey Wwendy! It depends on the liquid lipstick if I wear something underneath. I have to with ColourPops original liquid lipsticks, for example, but some I don’t at all, like for the Ofra long lasting liquid lipsticks or these Ultra Satin Lips. Usually I’ll just wear a more waxy lip balm and that seems to help with the more cement-like formulas. If the lip balm is more waxy, I find its a little less messy and gross as the liquid lipstick wears down.
Thanks a bunch Celesta!
Totally understand! These are converting me, that I will say!
I have been waiting on them to restock “Dopey” to put in my order on ColourPop!! I feel like they should have ordered 5x the amount of Dopey as the other shades — it’s clearly the most everyday, mass-appeal color of the line. Hurry it up ColourPop! 🙂 I also like Frick ‘n’ Frack — looks like Kat Von D Lolita II, though more orangey-brown.
I wonder how many they had of Dopey compared to other colors – it’s insane how quickly it sold out.
I’m slightly kicking myself for skipping out on Dopey when I had the chance. They were still in stock when I ordered Mess Around, Petit Four, and Marshmallow, but then they were all out and I ended up making another order after realizing how much I love the formula. Oh, well. I’m sure it’ll be back. 😛 It’s a gorgeous color!
Haha! With ColourPop, there is always something else coming out soon… aka another order to be made!
I really like both of these shades. Next year I’ll pick some of these up…. it suck being a full time student again. lol
Awww!
Pretty colors and great performance! Dopey is probably too light for me, but might be a great mixing color. Oh, how I love to mix my own lipstick colors and how impractical that is for retouching throughout the day! I love colors like Frick ‘n Frack, but they’re usually not very flattering on me. Not horrible, they just look very slightly ‘wrong’. Too warm, probably.
Ooh, these would mix well, I think, too, since they are wetter initially.
OMG! Dopey is off with Boba in the forest! Lol! They need to bring this back. I just ordered the rest of these yesterday, EXCEPT Dopey because it was out of stock still!!! :(..I have checked every single day ,at least once since about 2 days after this launch. This is feeling like Boba. lol
I mean, a back order would be nice. They need to put a limit on it when it does come back. Not sure if CP does that or not? But, I can see it going on Ebay for ridiculous prices.
LOL! Fingers crossed Dopey comes back soon!
Do you think the color of these would be influenced by a liner underneath? Like if i layered Frick and Frack over a red liner, would it appear more red? I didn’t have much luck layering the few ultra mattes that I bought.
I don’t think so, because they are so pigmented!
Both colors are pretty on you! This formula looks so much more forgiving than the ultra mattes
It definitely is!
Frick N Frack is my favorite shade of them all! It’s so flattering.
It’s gorgeous!
The formula sounds fantastic! These are some really cute colors too. I can see why they sold out so quickly lol. I was able to order a few of the shades I wanted but I can’t wait for ColourPop to restock so I can grab these. I know I’m going to like them too!
Have you had a chance to wear any of the shades you bought yet, Fancie?
Okay, I got Dopey, and really liked it as well, but I noticed that it wore off and left a bright pink stain behind, like I had worn a bright pink lipstick all day. Did anyone else have this problem? Or did I get a weird one and should I reorder another one?
I had a light stain but not bright pink – another reader mentioned this though!
I am adding both of these to my list!
Yay!
I have to say Christine, though i do not comment often, i appreciate your honest and thoughful reviews! I think i can confidently try these! Frick n frack looks nice!
Thank you, Mandy!
I love the shade and name of Frick n Frack. It’s on my “to get” list.
It’s cute! 🙂
The name given to me and my best friend in University. You rarely would find one without the other. It made me smile too.
How cute! My best friend and I met in 8th grade, and we always got called “Mutt and Jeff,” because she was and skinny and I was short and chubby.
I love your hair in your picture, btw!
“Frickenfrack” was always one of those fake swear words I’d use around the kids when they were little, along with “fudgesicles,” “shitakii mushrooms,” and “nutbunnies.” lol
Dopey looks amazing on you! If I didn’t own so many liquid lipsticks already, I would definitely purchase that shade with the A+ rating you gave it.
Thank you, El!
I had zero interest in the matte version, but these sound really nice!
These are! They are almost converting me to a liquid lipstick fan!
Looks like it FINALLY happened: a super long-lasting non-drying lipstick!!!! Oh, yes please, I must get Dopey! Possibly Frick n Frack, too. These are impressive AND beautiful, too.
Finally!
The formula looks great! I’m glad to see your comments on the wear time too. I like both colors but I prefer the undertones of Frick N Frack on you (and by extension, I will like it better on me).
Thank you, Lauren! 😀
Dopey is beautiful! It’s in that Anna/Sake/Pastille vein I love so much. Those shades just seem to be the best nude shades for me.
Perfect!
I have been waiting on dopey to restock also I thought they would have restocked it when they restocked petit four and marshmallow those also sold out just as fast as dopey
I can’t believe how quickly it sold out!
I absolutely love Frick n Frack! I read that most people thought it was much darker than the picture, but I found it to be spot on. If anything, I wish it was a little darker. It is a perfect nude for me as I have a lot of color to my lips naturally, making it hard to find nudes. This is perfect! It lasted about 4-5 hours for me, but I do smoke so I’m sure that affects staying power. So what!! I also ordered Toolips, and can’t wait to get it!! Next, I want to try their brow pencils!! Christine, will you review them, please? Thanks for everything!
I think that the ColourPop liquids tend to go on darker than they appear in the tube, but they’re fun 🙂
Oh I looooooooooove the look of Frick ‘n Frack!
Me too!
Both of these look fabulous on you! I am really digging Dopey.
Thanks, Chris!
I am still amazed at how good you look in all lipstick colours!
We can finally buy at least a part of the Milani range here, so I really hope ColourPop will be available in the future.
Aw <3 You're too sweet, Helene!
Now if only Dopey would restock!!! I would have bought it blind but now I *need* it. Those swatches convince me 100%
I hope they do it soon!
I am waiting for Dopey to be restocked, but I did get Frick n Frack! It’s definitely pulls darker on me due to my fairer skin tone, but I am really loving it! So far my impression of the new ultra satins is that they wear well, though you do have to be careful about transfer, and while they are definitely not as drying at the ultra mattes, they still dry out my lips a little (my lips are prone to dryness, so it might just be me). Even with the transfer issue, I do prefer them to the ultra mattes.
Exactly!! They wear soooo long for me, but they are so much more comfortable than traditional liquid lipstick.
How does Dopey compare to Kat Von D’s Lovecraft? I adore Lovecraft’s colour, but it’s hellish to apply.
