ColourPop Crush on You Super Shock Highlighter Palette Review & Swatches
Crush on You
ColourPop Crush on You Super Shock Highlighter Palette ($18.00 for 0.60 oz.) takes the brand’s cream highlighters (that we normally see in screw-top pots) and puts them in a slim, cardboard palette. I don’t know the magic that was involved in this, but I’m certainly interested in learning more about it! So far, I haven’t noticed any changes in the texture (it’s been a week or so) or that “wet” feel of them in the pan, but I am curious how it will hold up over time. All four shades performed consistently with the Super Shock formula overall with one shade being a little less pigmented (or less buildable) and not quite as easy to work with as the other three.

Talk in Code
Talk in Code is a pale, white gold with warm undertones and a luminous sheen. The consistency felt smooth and slightly wet to the touch, and it was thinner and cream-based, but it dried down and felt like a powder on my skin after it was applied. It had nearly opaque color coverage in a single layer when applied with fingertips, whereas a stippling brush yielded medium, buildable coverage (which is as expected based on the marketing). The highlighter wore well for nine and a half hours on me before I noticed fading.

Formula Overview
$10.00/0.15 oz. - $66.67 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to have "buildable" coverage and can be applied with fingertips (which will yield "higher coverage") or a brush (for sheerer coverage). It's a cream-based product that has a subtle, "wet" feel to it but never has the thickness of a true cream-based blush.
It goes on with the smoothness of a cream formulation but diffuses and blends (without lifting up one's base) more like a powder product. The product sets to a powder finish, so the product won't slide around during the day.
On me, the wear tends to be between eight and 10 hours. Most shades have medium, buildable pigmentation with some being semi-opaque to opaque on occasion. They are typically blendable, easy to use, and long-wearing.

Poker Face
Poker Face is a light-medium pink with warm undertones and a golden, metallic finish. I found that it had similar coverage–medium–when applied with fingertips as well as with brushes, but it was buildable to opaque coverage with two to three layers, which was easiest to do with fingertips. It had an emollient texture where it felt almost wet, but it was creamy, smooth, and fairly easy to blend out on my skin but wasn’t as readily blended as other shades. This shade emphasized my skin’s natural texture slightly. It lasted for just over nine hours on me before fading noticeably.

Drop a Pin
Drop a Pin is a soft, yellow gold with moderate, warm undertones and a luminous sheen. It had medium, buildable coverage when applied with a duo-fiber stippling brush and nearly opaque coverage if applied with fingertips. The consistency was very smooth, lightly spongy, and felt wet when I touched it with my fingertip. It applied evenly to bare skin and worked well over liquid foundation as it did not lift up my base. It stayed on well for nine and a half hours on me.

Class Act
Class Act is a light, golden copper with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It had opaque coverage applied with fingertips and more medium, buildable coverage when applied with a fluffy, synthetic brush (as expected). The texture was smooth, wet to the touch, thin and blendable. It had a strong, shiny finish but didn’t emphasize my skin’s natural texture. It wore well for nine and a half hours on me without fading or migrating.

Not sure I like the palettizing of this formula. They will dry out far more quickly than the screw top jars. Bigger selection of shades may not make up for that factor. HL for many does not get used up as quickly as other face color. I assume these are smaller in oz. than the screw top jars, so maybe they can get dented, panned, before they dry out.
Thanks for your review.
I would grab this but am concerned these will dry out in this format without being protected by the screw on plastic lids, etc. too. Le sigh.
Same! I have no idea how they managed to do this, but I sure do appreciate it! Those little pots of SuperShock this or that take up so much space and can be a (literal) pain to use. If this palette doesn’t dry up within a few months, then yippie kie yay!
This is beautiful and I love the shades.
Absolutely lovely palette. ColourPop did a great job with these.
Interesting packaging choice. I have to assume they’ve been testing this idea or they wouldn’t dare … right? There’s enough product there that it would take quite some time to go through them. Curiouser and curiouser.
I’m assuming they’ve tested, too, for longevity… but it’s hard to believe since they’ve always been like “screw the lids on tight” to avoid losing the “magic” in the past, lol!
