ColourPop Bird of Paradise Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Bird of Paradise
ColourPop Bird of Paradise 9-Pan Pressed Powder Palette ($12.00 for 0.36 oz.) is a new, limited edition (and Ulta-exclusive) palette that featured warmer, more orange- and red-toned shades with a mix of shimmers and mattes. The majority of the shades in the palette performed well; they were pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. A few of the mattes were slightly powdery or a bit drier, but when the lowest-rated shade is an A-, I think the palette is doing pretty well!

So Fly
So Fly is a bright, tangerine orange with strong, warm undertones and a metallic finish. It was intensely pigmented with a smooth, cream-like texture that was dense without being too thick or too firmly pressed into the pan. The eyeshadow applied well to bare skin and blended out easily. It wore well for eight and a half hours fading noticeably on my skin.

Formula Overview
$4.50/0.05 oz. - $90.00 Per Ounce
The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.
The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Beak-a-Boo
Beak-a-Boo is a soft, very light yellowed-peach with warm undertones and a bright, metallic sheen. It was deceptively shiny–very brightening when applied to skin! The texture was soft with light powderiness in the pan, but it applied evenly and blended out with ease in practice. It was richly pigmented and stayed on well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Cage Free
Cage Free is a brighter, light-medium orange with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had excellent color payoff in a single layer, which applied evenly to bare skin and blended out without issue. The texture was soft, lightly dusty in the pan but not prone to sheering out nor was fallout a problem. It lasted nicely for eight hours before fading visibly.

Preen Queen
Preen Queen is a medium, orange-brown with warm undertones and flecks of gold sparkle over a matte finish. The sparkles didn’t translate during application, so it functioned as a matte finish. The consistency was soft, a little powdery in the pan, but it blended out well without losing its intensity nor did it have fallout. It had opaque color coverage that lasted well for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Golden Egg #2
Golden Egg #2 is a medium-dark copper with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage that applied well to bare skin with a smooth, even lay down of product. The consistency was slightly drier and didn’t seem as finely-milled as most of ColourPop’s eyeshadows, but I didn’t have any trouble working with it in practice. The color wore well for eight and a half hours I noticed signs of fading.

Pecking Order
Pecking Order is a bright, medium-dark orange base with strong, warm golden shimmer throughout. The eyeshadow had a more loosely-pressed consistency, so I’d go in with a lighter hand to avoid fallout/excess product kicked up in the pan. The pigmentation was opaque, and the product applied evenly and blended out well. It lasted nicely for eight hours before fading a bit.

Another pretty monochromatic shadow palette but definitely not my preferred colour story so I am safe without this. I have a smattering of similar shades in different palettes and have never used them.
Beautiful look, as always. But I’ll bet most readers would agree that our stashes are duped to the gills…and mostly by ColourPop!
NO pressed glitters for a lovely and much appreciated change! And I love the citrusy vibe going on here better than some of their other orange heavy 9-pan palettes.
Personally, it is not for me – but for those who love these orangey shades, it is pretty good. And no dreaded plastic glitter either.
This. Is. Gorgeous!! But how does it compare to Yes, Please! palette? Is it worth having both or do they seem too similar?
I think they are pretty close. Some of the dupes, you will notice, are from Yes, Please, and there’s a fairly large overlap with Orange You Glad. And between those two, you definitely can get the vibe of this. As Rachel says, this one does have more peach. Check the dupes to do your pro/con.
I got this because I think it’s a better it makes for a better peachy monochrome palette than Baby Got Peach. I think it’s quite pretty and might work well with Orange You Glad. Bird of Paradise has a suitable browbone/inner corner highlight, for one, and some darker, more pumpkin spice shades to deeo the bright oranges in Orange You Glad.
Beautiful eye look, Christine!
