Coloured Raine Safari Raine Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches
Safari Raine
Coloured Raine Safarai Raine 9-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($39.00 for 0.44 oz.) is a new, permanent palette featuring four mattes and five shimmers. I only had trouble working with one shade–Congo Basin–which was less blendable than I expected, while the other eight shades were fantastic: pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. Shades like Toucan and Green Valley were exceptionally creamy–seemed quite packed with silicones–so my best tip for those who haven’t worked with this type of formula before is to use flatter/denser brushes and less sweeping, more pressing/patting motions.

Toucan
Toucan is a rich gold with strong,w arm orange undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It was richly pigmented with a smooth, cream-like texture that was dense but not too thick or too firmly pressed in the pan. The eyeshadow applied well to bare skin with a smooth, even application that blended out easily along the edges. It lasted beautifully for eight and a half hours before I noticed faint creasing.

Formula Overview
$6.99/0.064 oz. - $109.22 Per Ounce
2022 Formula: The formula is supposed to be "highly pigmented" and "blendable" with a "butterly smooth" feel. The majority of the matte eyeshadows were quite pigmented, while some of the shimmers were overly emollient, which resulted in sheerer and/or uneven coverage.
The matte eyeshadows have a bit of dryness to them, though they were pigmented and fairly blendable, but they tended to apply best over an eyeshadow primer, which ensured a better base for them to adhere to. The shimmer eyeshadows were best applied with fingertips or a flat, firm (and sometimes dampened) brush and pressed/patted into place, then lightly blended.
I did not love the two finishes paired together as the matte finish was thinner and more powdery compared to the thicker, denser shimmers, so the shimmers often "erased" the matte eyeshadows when blended out.
The formula was different than the brand's original single pan formula that they originally debuted with, and I preferred their original formula overall, though the new one is decent, just not as foolproof to work with.
Original formula review: The formula is supposed to be "highly pigmented, long-lasting, and blendable" and come in a variety of finishes. Most their eyeshadows are semi-opaque to opaque with a smooth, blendable textures that are easy to use and apply well to bare skin. The shimmers are slightly dense and creamier to the touch compared to the mattes, which aren't thin but don't have the same amount of slip. They tend to wear between eight and nine hours on me.

Clay
Clayis a muted, medium orange with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had a velvety, soft consistency that wasn’t too powdery nor too firmly pressed in the pan, so the color payoff was opaque and didn’t sheer out too readily (but still blended easily along the edges!). This shade stayed on nicely for eight and a half hours before fading slightly.

Congo Basin
Congo Basin is a muted, medium olive green with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was firmer and stiffer with a thinner feel to it, and unfortunately, it was harder to blend out on my skin (with and without primer). It had opaque pigmentation, and it worked decently when layered with some of the other deeper mattes in the palette, but I couldn’t get the edge to really spread and soften as much as I wanted to. This shade lasted well for eight hours on me before fading noticeably.

Lioness
LELimited Edition. $6.99.
Amazon Basin
Amazon Basin is a medium-dark, golden taupe with subtle, cooler undertones in its base but warmer shimmer that gave it a warmer tone overall. It had opaque pigmentation in a single layer with a soft, more loosely-pressed texture–use a gentler touch to avoid loosening too much product in the pan–that applied best in a pressing and patting motion. The powder blended out easily and stayed on well for eight and a half hours on me before creasing faintly.

Matriarch is a deep brown with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. The color coverage was opaque, while the eyeshadow had a soft, velvety texture that wasn’t too thin nor too thick, which made it easy to work with. The color applied evenly and blended out with minimal effort, and despite it being deep and pigmented, it wasn’t prone to fallout. It wore nicely for eight and a half hours on me before it faded noticeably.

OMG, gorgeous eye look! I am sorry to hear that Congo Basin is so hard to blend; I thought it was the most intriguing shade. But it’s still really pretty. I love this whole color scheme. If I wasn’t on a strict no-buy, this palette would definitely be on my radar.
So stunning. Just a very well thought out combination of colors and textures.
What a gorgeous palette. I am definitely putting this on my wish list.
I’ve had this palette on my radar, and I really want it for the olive/warm greens! Do you think all the colors work well together? Jungle looks quite cool toned and I’m not sure I know how I would incorporate it with such a warm palette.
Hi Vivien,
Please see the looks attached to this palette (shown above) – I used all of the shades within the palette between the two looks. I don’t consider Jungle to be cool-toned, though – neutral to warm but definitely not really cool-toned.
Such a beautiful palette and look you’ve created! Would you say this is the best palette by Coloured Raine? I have never tried their palettes, but with this beauty arriving, I really can’t decide!
I don’t recall what they’ve all rated off-hand, but this one performed well! As always, what’s the best choice for you is going to have more to do with the types of colors/finishes/composition of the palette, not just the rating 🙂
Out of the palettes I’ve tried by Coloured Raine, Queen of Hearts is their best palette to me. I’ve only tried 3 of the 6-7(?) palettes that they have, but Queen of Hearts is an amazing palette.
I know I said it before already, but; This is the green themed palette of my dreams come to life! Since it’s permanent, I’m not buying it in March. Will definitely do in perhaps April or May. Many might see this as an “autumn” palette of shades, but I’m seeing the sultriness and warmth of summer!
This palette is gorgeous! Tigress looks incredible ?
Wow that’s beautiful. I remember hearing about a new palette from them and definitely wanting to see pictures. It’s a very beautiful palette. Not sure if I will buy it. I love this blog it’s good and then bad making me want to buy more make up, but get to see reviews and sneaks about what’s new.
The eye looks you did Christine! LOVE! The colors are so unique in this palette! OMG! I’m dying here! What the heck, I don’t know how I’m going to be able to talk myself out of this because I’m thinking I don’t have many or any dupes.
Just love the shades in this palette, although I wish that Jungle was not a matte. Beautiful eye looks Christine.
Do you know if this will be available in Riley Rose stores?
I’m not sure!
I’m so excited for this palette, these shades are perfect and I love the Coloured Raine formula.
Huh. I would not have thought it, but I have dupes for everything except Congo Basin…
I was SO sure I was going to get this but with all those dupes, plus whatever $$$ I have just dropped on SG, ND and Viseart in the last 3 days, now I’m reconsidering…
Heck, who am I kidding?!?! (I’ll probably get it anyway 😉 )
Amazon Basin is stunning but I’ve finally stopped buying palettes for one shade so I’ll look through your dupes list instead.
I really should NOT have looked at this review. Those shades and textures are too gorgeous to pass up.
Gorgeous eye look! Love Coloured Raine eye shadows and this color story appeals to me. I’m going to get this eventually.
I’ve been wanting to try Coloured Raine, and this palette looks like a great option to consider. The colors are beautiful and complement each other better than I expected.
Only two to three dupes (and the third one isn’t spot on), so I do think I may purchase this one, especially since it rated so well.
I love the color story in this palette and love the looks I’ve seen from you and Mel Thompson… wow- I tried to re-create it with a lot of the shadows I currently have but I really don’t have dupes except for a few from Sydney grace..this beauty might have to come home with me soon!!! 🙂 Thanks!
