Bamboo
Cle de Peau Bamboo Lipstick ($65.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a subdued, medium pink with warm undertones and a luminous sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation with a smooth, creamy consistency that felt emollient but had a light tackiness on the lips that helped to keep it in place while worn. The formula seemed to smooth out my lip texture for the most part, though there was a touch of color that had gathered into my deeper lip lines. It was incredibly hydrating over the four hours it lasted for (but I cannot imagine it ever lasting eight hours!).
The formula is supposed to have “ultra-vibrant, luminous HD color and rich lasting moisture” that has a “silk, semi-matte finish lasting for 8 hours.” Under “Key Benefits,” they repeat that it has a “long-lasting finish for up to 8 hours” and “delivers lasting moisture for up to 4 hours” (I swear, that seems like it’s switched–it would really make more sense for it to last for four hours but keep lips hydrated for longer than the color itself lasted). The consistency was lightweight, creamy with a more emollient feel as it applied that had a lightly tacky feel afterward. Color coverage varied from medium and buildable to mostly opaque with light to moderate shine. Some shades applied more smoothly across the lips and made my lips appear smoother and plumper but not all shades did so. The wear was four to six ours with some of the deeper, richer shades (like reds) wearing longer. I found the formula very hydrating and comfortable to wear. I did not notice any taste but they had a subtle, rosy scent.

Silk Scroll
Cle de Peau Silk Scroll Lipstick ($65.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a muted, medium peach with warm, beige undertones and a luminous finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage, which did not apply evenly–I was surprised at how streaky the edges of this shade was on my lips and how even more color sat in my lip lines. This was one of the weakest shades in the range, though the formula was moisturizing on the lips, so it was at least comfortable to wear. The other downside was that it only lasted for three and a half hours on me.

Hummingbird
Cle de Peau Hummingbird Lipstick ($65.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a soft, medium coral with warm, orange undertones and a natural sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation, which covered the lips fairly evenly, but the texture did not seem to sit well on my lips and appeared to emphasize imperfections. The consistency was lightweight, moderately slippery, and creamy so it glided on without tugging, but this shade moved around more than others in the formula. On me, it wore well for three and a half hours but was very moisturizing.

There is absolutely no reason for a $65 lipstick to get a D rating, or really even anything below a B. I don’t understand how a cheap, mass market company like Colourpop can turn out higher quality products than luxury brands.
The lipstick isn’t great but part of the harsh rating is due to the 8-hour wear time claim 🙁
This. What Abbie says 100% echoes my sentiment. Today I was in a vintage mood and picked up two Revlon original colors (Cherries in the Snow and Fire and Ice) and I literally had to remove them with face oil and makeup remover because they were so pigmented they wouldn’t budge. And that’s their super lustrous formula, not even a long-wear. 🙁
Oh, these are so disappointing. 🙁
Yeah, this is not the best set! 🙁
Cle = D? Zut alors! (Archaic 50s-60s school French expression, grossly equivalent to omg.). It always amazes me that people actually get l/s like these, without a peek at reviews. One would think even die hard CdP fans would be hard pressed to justify these.
I think if all you’re after is just luminous color that’s hydrating but aren’t fussed about looking at it close-up, or you don’t have a lot of lip lines, one might not notice some of those things just putting it on in real life, you know?
I feel like if I’m indulging at Cle de Peau, I’m mostly after an extraordinarily comfortable formula since I can get pigment and wear from a host of other products — that’s just me, though!
The clear winner here is Bamboo! It honestly looks lovely on you. Reminds me of the same effect that UD Liar has on me when I wear it.
The other 2, however, are real misses. Especially at this price! They just don’t look as HE or Lux as everything reviewed from the line up to this point.
Yeah, I was bummed they weren’t able to nail the lighter shades!
UD Liar is my favourite nude. So fun that you mantioned it as I was thinking of removing my hot pink and use Liar instead today 🙂
These are easy skips!
Yay!
I purchased CDP Bamboo lipstick, thinking it was a beige nude (that’s how it looked online). When I applied it, it turned pink. For 65 bucks, I’d expect it to stay the color it looked like in the tube. Sent it back.
Interesting! It seemed to be similar to the way it appeared in the tube for me – or at least, no more +/- in one direction than most tubes look compared to actual application (which does vary a bit).
Bamboo stayed true to color for me as well. Could it just have come across more pink with your undertones? I had that issue with CT nudes, they pull way too brown on me but look beautiful on warm undertones and have a nice pinky-nude look. For me, I can see going wearing Bamboo often enough to go through it and repurchase.
Ack, $65 is a huge deterrent – not sure how a company can justify a lipstick to be this expensive. And a D rating to top it off makes it that much harder to justify compared to a mass-market brand.
Wow – that is so bad!
These got a no before I even saw the ratings
These are$65!?!?!?!?! Wow, that is on the expensive side of things. For that price they should do what the company claims they do or do even better.
tha brand isn’t easily available so a skip is a no brainer for me.
Bamboo is really a lovely colour though.
I will not pay this much money for a lipstick that isn’t extraordinary; I just won’t. I’m starting to get really annoyed (obviously lol) at high-end brands that release sub-par products and charge top dollar for them. Nope! Pretty shades, though.
Too bad the colors are very delicate and perfect for minimalists and everyday wear!
Bamboo is stunning!!! I said that you first posted it, and I’m still in love!
