Clarins Rosewood Eyeshadow Quad Review & Swatches
Rosewood (02)
Clarins Rosewood (02) 4-Color Eyeshadow Palette ($43.00 for 0.1 oz.) includes all shimmer shades, though two were more satin and looked more “soft matte” once applied and blended out. All four shades were pigmented, blendable, and lasted for eight hours, though the brand claimed 12-hours, so that dragged the rating down of what would have been an A-rated quad otherwise.

Rosewood #1
Rosewood #1 is a soft, medium pink with warmer undertones and a pearly sheen. The eyeshadow felt soft, smooth, and somewhat velvety to the touch, which I found translated to a smoother, more “melted” look when the powder sat on my skin. It had opaque pigmentation that wore well for eight hours on me before fading noticeably.

Formula Overview
-
The formula is supposed to have "intense color payoff" and be "crease-proof" for 12 hours. Most shades had semi-opaque to opaque coverage, while a few shades--often those with more shimmer--tended to be sheerer compared to the more matte shades.
The consistency felt almost cream-to-powder, as the formula felt more emollient and velvety to the touch without being powdery, which made most of the textures firmer compared to a lot of other formulas on the market. For the most part, this translated to application that didn't have any fallout and was blendable, but it sometimes required using a slightly heavier-handed approach to pick up product evenly or to get fuller coverage (if desired).
They did not last 12 hours on me, though, which is on the upper end of wear time I've gotten out of any powder eyeshadow. Most of the shades lasted between eight and nine hours with a few being shorter-wearing than that range.

Rosewood #2
Rosewood #2 is a light taupe with subtle, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had opaque color payoff that adhered well to my lid and blended out with ease. The texture felt soft, smooth, and slightly more firmly-pressed into the pan, but it picked up well with a medium-handed pressure and wasn’t difficult to work with. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Rosewood #3
Rosewood #3 is a darker, rosy mauve with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. The texture was smooth, almost cream-powder as it was velvety with some glide, but it was definitely a powder product. It had opaque pigmentation that applied evenly to bare skin and diffused well. It showed signs of fading after eight hours of wear.

It had rich color coverage with a soft, smooth, and velvety consistency that applied evenly and “melted” as I blended it out on my lid for a very seamless look. Since I’m pretty sure that I can get a super similar color story just using my ND Retro Midi, I will likely pass on this one. It is quite a beautiful quad, though.
It is a beautiful quad of subtle rosy inspired tones. Very, very pretty.
I like this little quad a lot.
I can see quite a few looks using just these shades, with some added mattes, but I often add matte shades from other palettes or from singles, so it’s not a problem.
