City Color G*psy Shimmer Shadow
City Color G*psy Shimmer Shadow

City Color G*psy Shimmer Shadow ($6.99 for 0.129 oz.) is a medium-dark, warm-toned purple with reddish tones and a pearly sheen. It had great color payoff with a soft, smooth, and blendable texture that wasn’t quite as dense as other shades–somewhere between the cream-like feel of formulas like the Shimmer Shadow and traditional powder eyeshadow. This shade wore well for eight and a half hours on me. MAC Frizzyplum (LE, $17.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). MAC Alluring (LE, ) is cooler (90% similar). Viseart Bijoux Royal #5 (LE, ) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Sydney Grace Awakening (DC, $8.00) is darker (90% similar). KVD Beauty Worship (LE, ) is darker (90% similar). City Color Cleo Shimmer Shadow ($6.99 for 0.129 oz.) is a rich, medium-dark copper with warm undertones and a metallic sheen. It was very, very pigmented with a creamy, dense texture that blends out well and adheres to the skin intensely without primer. The only issue I had with this shade is really that it’s so dense and pigmented that it can look thicker in places until blended and smoothed out–so use less than you think you need. It wore well for eight hours before creasing. Anastasia Adorn (DC, $12.00) is lighter (95% similar). Huda Beauty #Blessed (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). Tarte Vintage (P, $14.00) is lighter (95% similar). Ciate Shine Bright (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). Too Faced Friendspiration (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Coloured Raine Your Majesty (DC, $6.99) is darker (95% similar). LORAC Amber (LE, $19.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Stardream (LE, $21.00) is less shimmery, more muted (90% similar). Tarte Jewel (LE, ) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Tarte Candlelit Dinner (LE, ) is less shimmery (90% similar). Too Faced Famous (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Viseart Petit Pro #6 (LE, ) is brighter (90% similar). Pat McGrath Bronze 005 (PiP, $25.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). City Color U Jelly? Shimmer Shadow ($6.99 for 0.129 oz.) is a medium-dark pink-plum with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had good color payoffs with a soft, blendable texture that wasn’t as dense as other shades, and it was also a smidgen powdery in the pan. It still seemed to apply easily and blend out without issue, though. It showed slight creasing after eight hours of wear. BH Cosmetics Foil Eyes 2 #12 (PiP, ) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer (95% similar). MAC Care 4 You (LE, $17.00) is more muted (95% similar). ColourPop Bloomer (LE, $6.00) is warmer (95% similar). City Color Yas! Shimmer Shadow ($6.99 for 0.129 oz.) is a medium-dark, copper-brown with warm, red undertones and a frosted sheen. The texture was a good balance between creamy, blendable, and dense–it applied well without losing its intensity, but it was very easy to apply and difficult to overdo. I noticed faint creasing after nine hours of wear. MAC Reward Yourself (LE, $16.50) is less shimmery (95% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Disco Dust #3 (PiP, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). Morphe S.B.N. FORMULA OVERVIEW | City Color Shimmer Shadow ($6.99 for 0.129 oz.) is supposed to have “intense color payoff” with a “heavy metallic finish” that also has “long-wear.” There are 16 shades in the range, and this post features six of them. The majority of the shades in the formula have a very dense, thick, and cream-like consistency–I have best results using a firmer, flatter and synthetic brush than I do with a really soft, natural hair brush, though natural brushes offer a little more control over how metallic the finish gets and my MAC 239s were just fine with it (and those are natural hair). They are intensely pigmented, and they blend out and apply well to bare skin. The formula wore for around eight to eight and a half hours on me with very slight creasing. A few of the very frosted, metallic shades seemed to emphasize the natural texture of parts of my lid and need a little extra blending to smooth out. These reminded me of Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadows (but City Color’s are much denser) as well as Sleek’s more metallic eyeshadows.

Oh Christine, thanks SO much for reviewing these!! They sent me a 30% off email, and I was so tempted, but held off. These look awesome, just as good (if not better) than the original shades. I’m definitely grabbing Gypsy (love my purples), such a hard color to get right, and all of the close dupes are either LE or didn’t score well. And probably U Jelly to pair with it. And Cleo is so rich looking, it’s well named! I’m also eyeing the green one too, will await your review. Thanks again!

Any chance this is not a private code that you can share? They sent me a 20% off code, SUMMER (expires 6/30), but a 30% code would be even better!

I double-checked my email, and they actually sent me a 35% off for Memorial Day weekend, but that one already expired. The latest one is 20% off , code SUMMER, and good thru 6/30/16, and you can use it for up to 5 different transactions. I’ve been subscribing to their emails for a while, and I don’t think I’ve seen any private codes yet. BTW, they have their Shimmer Shadows (creamy powder formula, which Christine reviewed), and they also have regular shadows (which is the traditional powder formula, which is more hit or miss). Hope this helps

Thanks for double-checking. Yup, love their shimmer shadows (especially Marsala). I bought a couple of palettes from them as well, but haven’t had a chance to test them out yet.

I love super metallic looking shadows like these on the lid.. especially if they are dense and do not have fallout…even better. Will have to check out these and the other shades.

If you sign up for their emails, they have 25% off sales pretty often, the products were well-packed, and they shipped pretty fast. And both times, they threw in a free full-sized product, I got a lippie once, and a small shadow trio another time.

On the other hand, they once sent me the wrong items. Instead of immediately shipping out the right items once I notified them (and took photos to show them), they had to mail me a return label (not email), and only after they received my returned wrong items did they send the correct items. Took me about a month to get the items I ordered. I was less than enthused about that. A better solution: They could have immediately shipped the right items and eventually charged me for the wrong items if they did not receive them back within a certain time.

Oh no, sorry to hear about that, that sounds horrible 🙁 So far, I’ve only had great experiences with them, but I hope they are reading Temptalia about your experience and can improve that process. I agree they should’ve just emailed you the return label and shipped you the correct items right away

Oh Christine! That eye look you created is absolutely gorgeous. Could you list the eyeshadows and which ones were placed where, please? thank you!

Oh Yas!!! Gypsy and Yas have gone on my City Color wishlist! I will likely place a CC order even before I go to order my TF Honeymoon quad, by a month or two, because I am so impressed by City Color’s Shimmer (metallic!) formula. It looks so incredibly HE and decadent!

Freakin love these colors. Christine are the pans the same side as MUFE pans? I have several MUFE empty palettes, and I’m wondering whether these would fit in there?

What a beautiful look you did using all those colors together. I love that kind of color scheme and think I might need to get myself at least a couple of these shadows! VERY pretty!!

These are so beautiful. Thank you so much for reviewing these. I would really like you to review their highlighter/blush palette that is similar to the Becca and Jaclyn Hill palette. I would really like to hear your thoughts on it. The eyeshadows look beautiful and I will definitely be placing an order soon.

These colours are gorgeous and the fact that they are cruelty free is fantastic. Highly pigmented, long wearing and at such an affordable price – what is not to love? Your eye look is beautiful too Christine.

This eye look is so pretty!! I’m going to try out these combo of colors tomorrow. Thanks for the inspiration Christine!
