Charlotte Tilbury 1975 Red & Miss Kensington Matte Revolution Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Charlotte Tilbury 1975 Red Matte Revolution Lipstick
Charlotte Tilbury 1975 Red Matte Revolution Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a brightened, medium-dark orange-red with warm undertones and a satin finish. It’s not quite matte, though it’s not particularly shiny, while the texture is creamier, light-to-medium in weight, and glides on with smooth, even, and opaque color coverage. The color lasted for over six hours and was lightly drying after four and a half hours of wear. Hourglass Raven (P, $28.00) is darker. NARS Mysterious Red (LE, $25.00) is darker, cooler. MAC Mangrove (LE, $17.00) is lighter. MAC True Red (LE, $17.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer, glossier. NARS Annabella (P, $32.00) is brighter, glossier. NARS Rita (P, $32.00) is darker, glossier. MAC Barbecue (LE, $17.00) is brighter. NARS Carmen (P, $32.00) is glossier. Marc Jacobs Beauty Rei of Light (212) (P, $30.00) is darker, more muted, warmer. ColourPop Succulent (P, $6.00) is cooler, less glossy. Urban Decay Temper (P, $22.00) is darker, more muted. Bite Beauty Candied Maple (LE, $24.00) is darker, glossier. Charlotte Tilbury Miss Kensington Matte Revolution Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, light-medium rosy beige with subtle, warmer undertones and fine pearl over a semi-matte finish. It’s more of a “frosted matte” in a way, but it doesn’t have shine, just shimmer. The texture has a noticeable texture to it due to the high pearl content, and the texture was firmer than 1975 Red, which made it harder to apply. The texture was thinner and prone to emphasizing lip lines. It wore for three hours on me but was moderately drying. Burberry Pink Apricot (301) (P, $30.00) is darker. MAC Kinda Sexy (P, $17.00) is less shimmery, darker. NARS Barbara (P, $32.00) is less shimmery, darker, glossier. Chanel Sentiment (P, $34.00) is glossier. Tom Ford Beauty In the Buff (01) (LE, $50.00) is glossier. Tom Ford Beauty In the Buff (01) (LE, $50.00) is glossier. Bite Beauty Amaretto (P, $24.00) is less shimmery. Bite Beauty Leche (P, $24.00) is less shimmery, darker. ColourPop Button (P, $5.00) is less shimmery, brighter. MAC Oxblood (LE, $17.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer. Maybelline Daringly Nude (P, $7.99) is less shimmery. Chanel Julia (404) (P, $36.00) is darker, glossier. See comparison swatches / compare dupes side-by-side.

For me, warm lighter nude shades always have to be nice and glossy; otherwise, they render me lifeless. I’ve tried multiple matte formulas and it’s a definite no-can-do. The red is beautiful!
The red is nice!
I was thinking abour the MIss Kensington lipstick too and settled for the 1975 red out of fear that it was too nude for me. Glad I made the right choice!
Phew 🙂
I have both of these and totally agree with your review. I received Miss Kensington in a defective state twice from (as I have discussed with you in my Free for Haul Fri.). Apparently it was a problem with CT team so my $ was refunded promptly.I am extremely happy with Beautylish’s service. Otherwise,I would have returned it. Basically, The bullet was completely loose from the tube so I used a brush to apply. I’m glad you reviewed these. was perplexed at the vast difference in the two!
How are you liking the formula of 1975 Red compared to other matte formulas, Nicole?
I have only worn it one day out of the house, except to try it on when I received it.So, I can give you an quick and dirty and later update. In comparison to my other favorite mate formulas. I love the color. I see you have it compared to Temper which is on it’s way to me so I am anxious to actually compare those side by side. I think I like this formula a little better than MAC. About the same as UD ,But, Tom Ford still out does it. But at a much higher price point. I have one of the new lauder on the way to me. But, if I am comparing it to Reckless- I didn’t like that shade at all. So, 1975 out does that one.
I have quite a few of CT original formula lipsticks that I bought when she fist launched her collection. I love some of them. Never wear some of them. I have a feeling the matte line is going to come out the same. There is no CT counter near me. So, unless I read some reviews, I don’t really plan to purchase more shades. I may look for some reviews if I get time. But, I scooped these up because they were LE. I’m glad I got lucky with 1975 Red and Beautylish’s customer service. My mindset at this price point surely is to not go in blind.
Thank you, Nicole! UD is a lot cheaper, too, and more accessible, so good to know you like it as well as the UD!
I’ve really been wanting to try the CT Matte formula because I’ve heard such good things. Neither of these shades appeal to me, though. Do you have any recommendations from the permanent line, Christine?
These are the only two I’ve tried from the matte range, sorry!
I was hoping you’d review these! I have Hepburn Honey and it’s probably my favourite nude, so I was wondering how her matte lipsticks performed. Shame Miss Kensington was bad – I hope if you review other shades in the range they perform better.
I don’t have any of the other Matte shades, sorry!
1975 Red is just sooooo gorgeous on you, wow!
Aw, thank you!
Ugh, I don’t care for Ms. Kensington, it looks very dry, I can see it clinging to dry patches, and it will totally wash me out, but 1975 looks gorgeous on you ! I wonder if it’s close to BITE’s lipstick color for August….
We shall see!
1975 Red is a beautiful matte orangey-red that actually ended my search for the perfect orangey-red! Mine also arrived defective – the entire bullet was loose and came right off the moment I opened the tube. Selfridges refunded me my money, and it seems like this was indeed CT’s fault if defects are found on multiple platforms!
I agree that the texture of Miss Kensington leaves something to be desired, but I was pleasantly surprised by how it looked like on me, even after lasting through an oily breakfast (an oily breakfast?!). But then again, that was after I scrubbed my lips and moisturised it heavily with Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask the night before, so it would have helped Miss Kensington to go on smoother.
Your 1975 Red was also loose? I have heard that about Miss Kensington but not 1975 Red!
This red is super pretty! But I’m good with my tube of Lady Danger to satisfy my summertime craving for an orange-red. It looks wonderful on you!
As for that nude shade; just blahs-ville. That one looks like it would look like death on me. Easily sticking with Marque and Liar for my “nudes”!
Phew!
I picked up the 1975 Red in Selfridges a few weeks ago, and I absolutely love the formulation and color of this particular shade. I’m not typically a huge matte lipstick fan, but the finish doesn’t read as super flat, and I really like the shape of the bullet when I’m opting to apply it without a lip brush.
Happy to hear you’re enjoying the formula, Kelly!
1975 Red Matte Revolution is even prettier than I though it would be. I like the bullet shape, too. I’m not too thrilled with Mrs. Knezington, though I like the name. I wonder how it would look over 1975.
At least one was nice, haha.
Love your new website – very modern and easy to use.
I like the Red Matte, but the Rosy Beige completely lacks colour for me. It looks poorly pigmented – which is one of the reason it has received a C rating. Not good for the price.
Yay! Thanks, Genevieve 😀
LOVE THE NEW LOOK OF YOUR BLOG! WELL DONE, CONGRATULATIONS!
Thank you, Amalia!
I like 1975 on you!
Thanks, Erin!
Hi Christine,
Love the new design of the blog ! 🙂
I waned to know your take on this formula versus the UD mattes. I love the UD matte formula the best out of all matte/liquid mattes I’ve tried, the colors are good and more importantly, it doesn’t leave my lips dry or look bad in pictures. I wonder if these are investment worthy, when UD is cheaper? Thanks Xx
I prefer UD’s Mattes, as they are more comfortable to wear – thicker consistency overall though.
Thank you for SUCH a prompt reply Christine ! You’re the best ! The CT lipsticks are launching Monday, I was interested. But since you feel the UD ones are better, maybe I’ll wait until I can atleast try CT at a counter before splurging ! 🙂 thank you !
