Chanel Volage (227) Rouge Allure Lipstick ($35.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a light, muted pink-peach with a luminous finish. NARS Raquel (P, $32.00) is more opaque, lighter.MAC Dream Daze (LE, $22.00) is darker. Chanel Satisfaction (89) (P, $34.00) is lighter. Chanel Cheri (61) (P, $34.00) is warmer. Chanel Charmeuse (142) (LE, $34.00) is similar. MAC Fleur d’Coral (LE, $16.00) is lighter. Marc Jacobs Beauty Dizzy Spell (104) (P, $30.00) is darker, warmer. MAC Touche (LE, $20.00) is warmer. MAC Shy Shine (P, $16.00) is pinker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

It is one of the stranger lipsticks I’ve encountered, as it looks quite warm and peach in the tube, and then swatched, it retains that warmth, but applied, it lightens my natural lip color and the end result is more pink than peach. It had semi-opaque color coverage (you can tell by my lip freckle) with a light sheen. The texture was thin with a fair amount of slip, so it glided on without tugging, but it can look streaky. It lasted two hours on me, and it was drying on me. It felt more like a Rouge Coco Shine than a Rouge Allure to me, and it looked it, too, with its sheerer coverage. It’s the only new shade of Rouge Allure from the holiday collection, and I skipped

It looks fantastic in the tube, it looks moisturizing and really luminous. I’m not familiar with Chanel lipsticks anymore, so I don’t know the difference between the lines.
I was surprised it wasn’t moisturizing, and that it was so sheer. It does give your lips a very pretty hint of colour and a nice sheen, though.
Much too light and sheer for me to pay so much, especially as it didn’t last more than two hour on you, Christine. That would probably mean half an hour on me 🙂

Rouge Allures are supposed to be their more full coverage range (and I think all of them are supposed to be hydrating – they may make no claim on the Velvets, which are more matte, but I can’t remember off the top of my head), and then you have the Rouge Cocos which are pigmented but usually not as much as the Rouge Allures. Rouge Coco Shines are sheerer and glossier! Rouge Velvets are matte but pigmented.

I think it looks extraordinary on you! Tricky color for me, though, and also a color I (personally) would not consider worth the trouble if it was going to be drying.

I bought this last week, and I think I have to agree with you. I loved it at first, but I’m kind of mad at myself that I paid so much for a lipstick that doesn’t do much. It totally feels/looks like a Coco Shine lipstick. I’m very fair with pale lips, so I love the way it goes on, but it fades super quick and is streaky. I make several passes with it on my lips. It swatches better on my hand. I don’t feel comfortable returning it, even though it’s Nordstrom, because I’ve used several times. Oh well.

hi!!! I am really interested on what else you are wearing…..your face looks so glowy and pretty….can you please tell me what bronzer and blush combo you are wearing?? Thanks

I swatches this in person yesterday….it was nothing more than fancy Vaseline on my pigmented skin. Obviously quality assurance was taking a break because this should be under there gloss segment. The counter girl told me they have been upselling a lip liner (to fill in their lips) with it to assist with the lack of pigmentation….and people have been buying both.

RA has always been my favourite lipstick formula, I’m surprised at how sheer this is – I doubt it will show up on me. Did you get the RAVelvet in Flamboyante, Christine?

It looked so nice in the tube but I’m so glad I didn’t buy it.
Personally, I think it’s quite a disappointment for this price point.
Will you be reviewing Foudroyante? That may be my last Chanel lipstick purchase.

I did a double take when I saw the name of this one. I still have Volage Glossimer and it’s also peachy pink but with so much shimmer it might qualify for frost. Interesting that Chanel used that particular name for this lipstick. 🙂

Do you ever get that thing with thin/sippery formulae where it not only feels kind of drying, there’s a kind of veeery slightly ‘acid’ feeling to it too? I get that sometimes, and it’s really annoying! I was excited when I saw this colour in the top photo, and the swatch on the lips looks beautiful, but it’s a shame to hear that is has the streak/dry thing going on.

I find the Rouge Coco shade I have to be super moisturising, but I’ve never tried their other lipstick lines…

Quite late on this having just seen it noted on YouTube from I believe Raereview. I went off to order but thought twice deciding to first see what you had noted as I trust your great info so much. I thank you for saving me the money as I loved the tube color but cannot tolerate drying at my age especially or a less than opaque formula when I was expecting full opaque Chanel quality. Thanks again tho I agree with others the color was lovely on you!
