Chanel Envol (847) Illusion d'Ombre Eyeshadow Review, Photos, Swatches
Chanel Envol (847) Illusion d’Ombre Eyeshadow
Chanel Envol (847) Illusion d’Ombre Eyeshadow ($36.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a warm-toned, golden beige with a hint of pink and a frosted, metallic sheen. Hello Kitty Apple Pie (LE) is a powder product, lighter. Urban Decay Last Sin (LE, $18.00) is a powder, more beige. bareMinerals Future (P) is similar, powder. Kat Von D Killing Jar (P) is darker, powder. Tom Ford Beauty Orchid Haze #1 (P) is powder. NARS Jezebel (P) is powder. Kat Von D Precious (LE) is lighter, powder. Tom Ford Beauty In the Pink #2 (LE) is powder. MAC Say, Yeah! (LE, $15.00) is pinker, darker, powder. MAC Naked Lunch (P, $15.00) is powder. Estee Lauder Pink Zinc (P, $24.00) is pinker. It’s a new shade from Chanel’s holiday collection (I’m making the assumption it is limited edition, but it could be permanent–I don’t have official details yet, but the collections is available online at several retailers already). It had fairly good color payoff that was buildable to opaque color coverage in two layers. It had a very smooth consistency that made it easy to blend and sheer out for more of a wash of shimmer and sparkle. It is mostly shimmery, but there are a few larger sparkles in it, which seemed to stay on the lid for the most part. There were a handful of sparkles underneath my eye after eleven hours of wear. I could see this being a really go-to shade for anyone who likes a warmer wash of color on the lid; it is a very nice one-and-done kind of shade.

It looks stunning, but it’s really sheer. Not sure if I’d use it often. Probably not.
If you wouldn’t use it often, definitely not something that seems right for you!
I agree, Melissa. It’s too sheer to see myself reaching for it very often. 🙂
Hey Christine, just so you know, the info I received says it’s indeed LE!
I was not going to look into this because I thought it’d be too pink, but it’s actually nice and peachy! Oh the temptation…
Not surprising – usually the only things they’ll make permanent might be the lip colors or one of the polishes! Thanks!
It’s definitely pretty and if someone gifted it to me I am sure I will happily use it but I don’t think I’d buy it myself.
Gotcha! 😀
LOVE <3 How similar is this to Emerville? Whatever that one is that stars with an E and is a peachy copper pink as well.. Thank you! 🙂
Emerveille is more copper/red-based – definitely darker!
I love the Illusion d’ombre cream shadows, but I feel like I often see blogger photos of pots where the shadow has dried somewhat and pulled away from the sides. It’s disappointing that Chanel can’t do a better job with quality control! Luckily, my local Chanel SAs are really diligent about checking before they sell them, but it seems like Chanel could get its act together or redesign the packaging to mitigate this. /rant 🙂
I have some that are to the sides and others that aren’t, but they all feel the same to me – definitely not dry, if that helps 🙂
Ooooooh this is gorgeous! I sure hope it’s actually permanent, because damn. <3
Sunny received press info that said it was LE 🙁
I better make haste to purchase it, then. Thank you for the info. 🙂
I think it might be too sheer for me. I love the color even though it is warm! Kinda reminds me of Kitten. If Kitten had a flaky little sister this would be her.
LOL!
I have this and love this as a brightening wash all over the lids! Glad that you gave this a good review too, Christine :).
It is nice as a wash! I could see it working as a warm base, too.
I swatched this at a counter recently when I went to buy Tissé Vénitien, and it is GORGEOUS. I saw some violet, pink, and gold micro glitter in it that sparkled in the sunlight. I am so OBSESSED with the finish of this. I tried taking pictures of it, but don’t think they did it justice. Maybe it was just the way the light was hitting it, but I thought it was so beautiful! Will definitely be picking this up, come pay day 😉
It is very pretty! And I agree, it is hard to photograph the way it sparkles.
It looks so dry 🙁 I’m not too crazy about the formula, and I quite like the shade, being so similar to the UD Sin!
Aw, that is too bad!
That is really, really pretty. It would be great for an allover eye look with statement eyeliner and a bold lip. Or as a highlighter.
It would be nice as a highlighter!
Aww! I was hoping this would come out more peachy and coral and have a medium-opaque color pay off! Too sheer-prettu, but not what I was expecting.
Bummer 🙁
Very pretty. Not sure it’s for me as there are so many more tempting releases.
In the end I’ll probably stand there without anything as it’s so hard to decidewhat I reall, really want 🙂
I have been there, Helene! That’s me at physical Sephoras.
I Love this colour! I bought one because it was part of the holiday collection and I almost always pick up the Illusion D’Ombre when it a part of the collection. But once I used it it I had to go get another! And I almost want to get a third!! 😀 It is beautiful as a wash of colour on my eyelid with just mascara or with a bit of brown eyeliner.
I was surprised you didn’t compare this with Tom Ford’s cream eye shadow from awhile ago. Another blogger did and it looked very close on his swatches. What do you think?
You’d have to tell me the shade name, because the only lighter cream eyeshadows I can think of is Escapade, but it’s very yellow and much lighter than Envol, so I can’t I think of one that is close!
Yes, Escapade is the one and Pink Haze is the other. I did not pick those up so I have never seen them in person but they both looked close to me on the computer screen 🙂
Escapade is a lot yellower, and then Pink Haze is darker and much pinker. Maybe if you mixed the two, you might get Envol? 🙂
pink haze is the name of the TF creamy mousse one
Thanks! I don’t think it is a dupe for Envol – darker and pinker, not nearly so warm!
I really like this one, and I love sheer champagne-y washes on the lid, and I already use my existing Illusion d’ombre as a highlighter (which I think this one might also serve well as when you want a bit of sparkle)…
Do you think if I keep talking in this semi-doubtful manner, I will convince myself *not* to buy this the second I see it? Will that work? 😉
Oh man, if you already use the one you have as a highlighter… I think you’re sunk!
How close is this to EtK #9 Rock Sand? I’d tried to find it in the dupe list, but struck out. 🙁 It looks fab, but possibly too close to actually *need.* :p
Here you go! 🙂 http://www.temptalia.com/submit-dupe?sbs=1&pid=100838&dupe=178559
Thanks!
I think this would make a great wash of colour on those days I don’t have too much time to do my makeup, which seems pretty often lately as I’ve been hitting my snooze button a lot! 🙂
It totally would work well as a wash!
