Chanel Rouge Rouge Brûlé (128) Illusion d’Ombre Eyeshadow
Chanel Rouge Rouge Brûlé (128) Illusion d’Ombre Eyeshadow ($34.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a medium-dark copper with warm, brown undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good pigmentation in a single pass, which could be blended out to semi-sheer coverage fairly readily, though sheer coverage was more challenging as it tended to look more uneven at that coverage level. The texture was emollient and felt wet to the touch, but it wasn’t watery or too thin on the skin, and it dried down within 10-15 seconds. It wore well for ten hours without creasing or fading on me. MAC Red Alert (LE, $17.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Natasha Denona Cyclone (138DC) (DC, $29.00) is cooler (95% similar). Smashbox Outfoxed (PiP, ) is more muted (95% similar). ColourPop Hacker (LE, $4.50) is more shimmery, lighter (95% similar). Too Faced Wet Kisses (LE, $16.00) is lighter, warmer (95% similar). Pat McGrath Starlit Copper (LE, $25.00) is more shimmery, darker (95% similar). MAC Coppering (P, $17.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). NYX Fireball (P, $6.00) is more shimmery, warmer (95% similar). Lisa Eldridge Lost Summer (P, $16.00) is warmer (95% similar). KVD Beauty Doce (DC, $21.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Chanel Rouge Rouge Brûlé (128) Illusion d’Ombre Eyeshadow ($34.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a dark burgundy with warm, brown undertones and a semi-matte finish. The texture was spongy, lightly emollient, and smooth in the pot. It packed quite a punch of pigment in one pass, so it worked well as an eyeliner or as an eyeshadow, but it wasn’t as easy to blend and diffuse along the edges. It looked a bit patchy where I tried to blend it, particularly into the crease area, so it does take some work to blend the color out. Once on, the eyeshadow wore for nine hours before creasing faintly. Charlotte Tilbury The Queen of Glow #4 (PiP, ) is less shimmery, cooler (95% similar). Tarte Cocoa What Fun (LE, ) is warmer (95% similar). Too Faced I Can't Even (LE, $16.00) is lighter (95% similar). Too Faced Charming (LE, $16.00) is darker (95% similar). bareMinerals Stiletto (LE, ) is cooler (95% similar). LORAC Burgundy (PiP, $19.00) is lighter (95% similar). Too Faced Bordeaux (PiP, $16.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). ColourPop Extra Slice (LE, $4.50) is warmer (90% similar). Too Faced Soiree (LE, $16.00) is more shimmery, cooler (90% similar). Anastasia Credit (LE, $12.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Anastasia Deep Plum (P, $12.00) is darker (90% similar). Natasha Denona Gemma (106CM) (PiP, ) is warmer (90% similar). Makeup Geek Aphrodite (LE, $6.00) is darker, more muted (90% similar). ColourPop Throw Shade (LE, $4.50) is less shimmery, lighter, warmer (90% similar). ColourPop French Toast (LE, $4.50) is less shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Too Faced Double Tap (LE, $16.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Deep Damson (DC, $17.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). MAC Everyone's Darling (PiP, $17.00) is lighter (85% similar). Pat McGrath Mahogany Angel (LE, $25.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Makeup Geek Cherry Cola (DC, $6.00) is lighter (85% similar). Rouge contrast would indeed make a nice eyeliner! Like!
It does!
I am loving this collection, but no surprise, it is easily dupeable in my stash. Still, the posts give me inspiration for Fall looks combining products I already own. Might have to grab a few of the lippies though.. especially the nude and those red mattes (vie and audace)
Gotta love when a collection gives one some inspiration 😉 It doesn’t always happen these days!
I have to be so careful with red-toned browns and coppery shades. I like the look of Rouge Contraste in the little jar but it might be too warm for me once applied. I was surprised to see I have one of the dupes for it in a TF palette because (not surprisingly) it’s a shade I don’t use from that palette. I’ve also got a dupe for the more orange one but, again, it’s a colour that’s untouched in its palette.
Sounds like this one might be on the wrong side of brown/copper for you if two dupes don’t work!
Rouge Brule is pretty!
Agreed!
Stunners!
They are rich shades!
I don’t think these will work on my coloring but they are nice 🙁
Aww, maybe next launch!
So glad I got these! Still need to open them. Maybe this weekend!
Yayy!
No ColourPop dupes? Seems like there would be, and that would keep me from buying these two. 😉
I think for Rouge Brulee in particular, the redder tone made it a little less dupable than more molten/orange-y coppers!
One of my favorite things about summer is all of the releases and previews featuring warm fall colors. These shadows are no exception! Very pretty.
Glad to hear it! 🙂
Rouge Brulé is gorgeous!!! Buuut, if I search my stash, I will definitely find a dupe with all the coppery shades I’ve got! The deeper shade really does looks like both my MAC Deep Damson as well as one of my old L’Oreal Infallible e/s’s, Smoldering Plum? Idk? I can’t remember the name! ?
I think Deep Damson would get you close – maybe layered over a dark base or with a black eyeshadow?
That would work, I think! I have a retractable eye pencil from Nyx , that used with Deep Damson, may do the trick. It’s in the shade Deep Purple. Although I may check and see if Sephora retractable’s have an inky purple or plum, instead.
More to love but may go for dupes. Financial reasons only. So pretty and sparkly too.
Hopefully you have a dupe or two 😉
Hope so. These colors are so good with blue grey eyes.
Not exactly my colours, but they are lovely. A good rating too.
They were nice!
Oh, good, I have a good enough dupe for Brulé! If not I would have been very, very tempted by it. I like coppery tones, they seem to bring out the green in my eyes a bit.
Phew! 😀
Rouge Brule has me all confused. I love the color and think it will make my eyes be “POW! Green” but could also make me look like “oh bless your heart, are you sick?” It’s a fine line with my coloring.
lol! Well, let us know which one it ends up being!
What kind of brush would be best if I wanted to use Contraste as a liner? Is it creamy enough to use “as is,” or would I need to use a wet brush?
I like the really thin, horizontal brush kind! Alternatively, a thin, firm, slightly tapered liner brush also works well.
OMG I think I just might have to veer out of my comfort zone – the Rouge Brule is so pretty!
Always fun to experiment!
I like to get the Brûlée and the stylo yeux EROS but can these both work well on Asian skin NC20 from MAC? And can I use a MAC eye primer underneath?
The Brûlée is to die for color:) is it ok to use MAC eye primer underneath that? And do you think the “brûlée” shade and stylo yeux EROS compliments brown eyes girls?
