Chanel Perles et Fantaisies Illuminating Powder
Chanel Perles et Fantaisies Illuminating Powder ($70.00 for 0.30 oz.) is a two-tone highlighter with a pale white matched with a light-medium, warm pink. The white shade is softer and seemed more pigmented, so it tended to dominate even when the two were mixed. I wish both shades were equally high in quality, but the pink shade leaves something to be desired. If you expect to only use it blended and prefer a lighter color overall, you may still enjoy the product. Both shades yield a smooth, luminous sheen that didn’t emphasize pores.
Perles ete Fantaisies (Left) is a very light white with subtle, cool undertones and a finer, golden sheen. It had good, buildable coverage that was easily applied more intensely or sheered out for a softer glow. It didn’t look as stark on my skin tone (about medium, yellow undertones) as I would have thought it would, though it is definitely going to be easier and more suitable for lighter skin tones to use as a standalone product. For other skin tones, it may be easier to wear when layered over a blush to lighten it. This shade wore well for eight hours on me. Urban Decay Luminous (P, $28.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). NYX Liquid Prism (P, $6.99) is less shimmery (95% similar). NYX Moon Glow (P, $6.99) is less shimmery, warmer (95% similar). Chanel Lumiere Sculptee de Chanel Highlighting Powder (LE, $72.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Becca Pearl (DC, $38.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Chanel Poudre Lumiere Glacee (LE, $45.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Becca Pearl (P, $38.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Tarte Champagne Pink (LE, ) is more shimmery (90% similar). Too Faced Diamond Fire (P, $34.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Trophy (LE, $34.00) is warmer (90% similar). Dior Glowing Pink (001) (LE, $58.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). LORAC Shimmer Highlight (P, ) is less shimmery (90% similar). Givenchy Moonlight Saison (P, $52.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). MAC Barely Dressed (LE, $34.00) is warmer (90% similar). Perles ete Fantaisies (Right) is a light-medium, yellow-toned pink with a luminous sheen. The texture on this one was firmer and thinner, which resulted in having to really wear down the top layer and get through some of the embossing in order to get decent color payoff and blendabilty. For the price point, this is obviously not ideal. The deficiency in this shade is less noticeable if you swirl the two shades together, but you’ll find that the color is lighter than you’d expect if the two were mixing equally. The color lasted for seven and a half hours on me. ColourPop Scrumptious (LE, $8.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Becca Rose Quartz (P, $38.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Lancome Moonlight Rose (LE, $42.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Hourglass Pink Flash (P, $42.00) is darker (90% similar). Algenist Rose (PiP, $38.00) is more shimmery, darker (90% similar). Dior #002 (DC, $56.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Wet 'n' Wild Halo, Goodbye (P, $5.99) is more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Glow Stick (PiP, $34.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Tarte Gleam (PiP, ) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Burberry No. 03 Pink Pearl (P, $68.00) is cooler (90% similar). Laura Mercier Devotion (P, $45.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Chanel Premieres Fleurs (LE, $70.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Jouer Rose Quartz (P, $24.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Tarte Spellbound Glow (LE, $30.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Wet 'n' Wild Desert Explorations (LE, $2.99) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). ColourPop Sugar Trap (P, $7.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Porcelain Pink (LE, $34.00) is darker (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Soleil Afterglow (Highlighter) (LE, ) is more shimmery (90% similar). ColourPop Just for Us (P, $7.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). Anastasia Starburst (LE, ) is more shimmery (90% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Looks perfect for my skin tone, even with the pink not being strong in pigmentation. I actually was hoping that it’d be more white than pink because I find the Dior Glowing Pink too show up too obviously pink on my skin tone. It’s funny, everyone is saying the Dior has a very natural and beautiful sheen, but on me, even with a light hand, it is the most unusual silver pink shimmery highlighter. It could be because my undertone is super pale with green undertones, so everything kind of looks off on me.
Here’s hoping this might work for you then! 🙂
Same situation about fair olive tone and Dior Glowing Pink – it looks silver violet on me:) Now I am also thinking about this one from Chanel.
This looks… Underwhelming, especially compared to other chanel highlighters from past collections, i have my dior glowing pink highlighter and that one is beautiful
It isn’t living up to past highlighters for sure!
Too pale for me, but love the pearl embossing, so Chanel. The powder does look white blended, but I like how the pink gives it some warmth
The design is pretty!
These fancy designs would make it impossible for me to muck them up. So glad the pink is disappointing. Now, I do not have to buy this gorgeous thing.
lol!
Bummer that the pink didn’t turn out as nice. Well maybe that’s a good thing for my bank account.
That’s thinking on the bright side 😉
The grade for the item is just showing as a — .
I thought the pink didn’t look so hot. 🙁 It’s looks so pretty in the pan, though.
Fixed!
Oh, this one looked like it had potential; until now. A sad, but easy pass. Because at this luxury price point, it would have to be stellar all around. I only very rarely go luxury, TF Black Orchid perfume or Fresh Black Tea eye cream. So, I’m good.
TF has such great scents!
Your review saved me $70! Thank you!
No problem, Deborah!
Another skip for me. At that price, it has to be perfect!
I agree!
Too bad about that pink! I thought it was going to be a cool pink, looking at the pictures of the pan on my screen, and with the quality not really matching the price, I think I just need Pearl Pressed.
Pearl will be great for you if you want something very light 🙂
This is a sheer pale silvery mess. Huge FAIL for Chanel. I swatched it at NM. You would think this would be a dream for fair skinned girls but it’s not.
Bummer 🙁
Oh no! I’ve been waiting for your review on this. Obviously, hoping for much better. i don’t have any of the dupes for the mixed product. But, gosh the price tag is steep for something that needs to be scraped to be suitable to use. I really wanted this to be good. I need to think on this. I wish they were putting this in stores. 🙁
They still might! I’m not sure at all where this collection will be distributed (if anywhere).
Yeah, I saw Lisa’s comment that is was in Neiman’s near her. I
Guess I’ll wait and see if this particular product comes to a store near me. Thanks for reviewing.
I snagged it at Nordstrom’s near me today! Now I have to consider if I want to keep it because of the grade. It is lovely, and I’m very fair, so.
Beautiful but expensive I’m going too pass
Gotcha! 🙂
Dang. Well, serves me right for not waiting for your review. This is too pricey for a B- might have to return it. 🙁
Maybe yours will be better 😀
Thanks so much for your review Christine. I was seriously considering getting this since I love the way it looks blended, but I’m not paying $70 for something that is less than excellent, though I still probably would have caved at a B+
Luckily I’m very happy with my Illamasqua Lies which I’ve been using the most since I got it. ?
Definitely wish the pink side was better!
It’s too bad that the two sections don’t match up quality-wise, because I do like both colors.
I hear ya!
Thank you for the review! My lust was bigger than my brain! While this is undeniably gorgeous and perfect for my coloring I have an over abundance of dupes. Derr I like these colors so of course I already have them and wanted this! $70 and tiny. I don’t need it or a loss of $70. Very pretty though. Hard pass. For now. 😉
This also reminds me of Bobbi Brown Shimmerbrick in Lilac and the one in Pink. I’m still enjoying the new Givenchy illuminating powder and need to not buy everything. Really pretty.
Glad you have lots of dupes 😀
I have not played with this in person so none of my dupes are exact. The struggle is so real. Very light highlighters are my face powders so I have a problem. Example I somehow have 4 ABH Starlight. Why? Logic makes me think anyone can mix this from pigments like from TKB or Femme Fatale, MAC or stand and layer Cindy Lou with BECCA Pearl and Pink Porcelain but I’m lazy. I stand all day at work. This highlighter comment was interrupted by a flash screen announcement that Hillary is leading by 16%. Not ok during highlighter talk. So this is haunting me. The dupability is crazy. Still lemming. Maybe my highlighters want more friends? ?
I’m really loving these subtle highlighters. Even though I won’t be buying this particular one (I bought a highlighter from their holiday collection), leave it to Chanel to release a beautiful palette. Pity that the pink side is disappointing at this high price point.
Now excuse me while I order Tom Ford’s Disco Dust, which looks stunning on you, Christine. The whole look is beautiful.
Thank you, Tracey!
Hmmm I guess I just saved a few bucks. It looks beautiful when they are blended together. Are there dupes for the combined color?
Thanks!
These are the closest permanent options I could think of: http://www.temptalia.com/swatches?compare=200402,190291,168370,121459
It still looks really pretty on you. I have Becca’s pearl but I am a sucker for all Chanel highlighters. So,very tempted to buy this item.
Aw, thank you!
Pretty embossing but no dice. Seems a waste of pink highlighter ?.
I agree 🙁
Very pretty! But I think my Sisley L’Orchidée Rose Highlighter Blush could serve as a good enough dupe.
Perfect!
The embossing is beautiful and different than others on the market, if I bought items just for the uniqueness I would get this but I don’t.
I was lusting after this, but I just picked up BECCA pearl yesterday. I also recently acquired Dior Glowing Pink and Bobbi Brown Pink Glow so I think with the pearl and one of the two pinks I could achieve the same look when the two colors in this are put together.
I think you are covered 😀
I feel the same way. I wanted to love it, but it was very stiff and hard to get any color pay off using my brush. For this price point the quality isn’t there. Very sad because I have fair skin and was looking forward to it. It is going back to the store tomorrow.
I was so bummed — Chanel has been pretty good lately with their LE powders.
I’m torn on this one. It’s been in my cart for a few weeks now but haven’t taken the plunge. Kind of wanted it to me an A. 🙂
