Chanel Mystere et Intensite Eyeshadow Quad Review & Swatches
Mystere et Intensite (304)
Chanel Mystere et Intensite Les 4 Ombres Multi-Effect Quadra Eyeshadow ($61.00 for 0.07 oz.) contains a soft brown, coral, black, and deeper berry. I liked the concept more in the pan than on the lid; normally I find Chanel to put together cohesive colors, but the tone of the brown did not work as well with the coral and berry as I expected–all subjective observations and not part of the actual ratings, as a note. The quality of two shades wasn’t on-par with most of Chanel’s newer eyeshadow quads, so the palette left me feeling underwhelmed.

Mystere et Intensite (304)
PPermanent. $70.00.
Mystere et Intensite #1
Mystere et Intensite #1 is a medium brown with warm undertones and a satin finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, smooth texture that was finely-milled without being dusty or powdery in the pan. The eyeshadow applied well to bare skin and blended out easily. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me before fading.

Mystere et Intensite #2
Mystere et Intensite #2 is a soft, peachy-coral with warm undertones and a satin finish. Though the eyeshadow felt smooth to the touch, it was firmer and stiffer to work with and was difficult to get color coverage out of it. It was also significantly lighter than the pan-color and applied unevenly to my lid. It was so disappointing and couldn’t be fixed (I tried applying it with a dampened brush) that I had pop on a glitter top coat to minimize the unevenness in the “look” itself. I tried it again later on to see if it was any better (perhaps just the placement before), but it was still hard to work with. It lasted for six and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Mystere et Intensite #3
Mystere et Intensite #3 is a soft, medium black with subtle pearl over a matte finish. It was soft but somewhat dusty to work with, so there was a touch of fallout during application if I wasn’t careful. It had semi-opaque, buildable coverage, which I think is practical for some but depends on your need for pigmentation. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me.

I have my eye on this palette, especially for shades 2 and 4. Disappointing results for shade 2 though I could probably live with it. I’d bring in a cool-toned brown or grey to balance the berry shade 4. I applaud Chanel for bringing palettes with vibrant shades to the permanent line.
A note for Canadians: this collection will be released in August/September.
I was considering this quad despite not wearing black, as the #2 coral and #4 plum look so nice. But it’s a pass given the D. Money saved!
Not for me – I like my quads/smaller palettes to be a “full look” kind of thing. I couldnt get a full look out of this!
Shade #1 is stunning in the pan tho!
That makes sense!
Thanks for your review on this. But, with a D on 1 of the shades, this is a pass.
No problem, Janice!
$’s SAVED! I was really expecting this quad to perform better than this. Feeling just a little bit let down by Chanel this summer. Here’s hoping that the other quad rates better!
Phew!
I am not a fan of this little quad as I think the shades are mismatched. A darker grey would have been a better choice than the black and the brown shade seems out of place. The lighter berry shade was dismal and has not enhanced the palette at all.
Lovely eye look Christine.
Thank you, Genevieve! 🙂
Thank you for this review. I like shade number 1 and 4. Im curious as how shade number 2 would look on black skin. Generally it looks like a pretty cool palette.
What a pity that the quad performed so badly. I love, love the berry shade so much but am not going to buy it just for that one shade. I’ll have a long, good look at the dupes.
The second shade seems to do as badly as I remember some doing in the past. I used a lot of Chanel, I really liked the brand, but when the quads suddenly went rather bad, I gave up on the brand. These days I buy some stuff from them, when you give it a really good review.
Thank you for money saved.
