Chanel Fall 2015 Le Vernis Nail Colour
Chanel Ecorce Sanguine (671) Le Vernis Nail Colour ($27.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a medium-dark, warm red with a cream finish. It was opaque in a single coat, though two coats isn’t fussy at all, so if you prefer the thickness of two, it applies like any good polish does–you just don’t need it for coverage. I tested this shade specifically for wear from the set of three, and it lasted for the typical seven days that Chanel’s formula does for me (without a base or top coat). The consistency wasn’t too thick or too thin, and it applied evenly with ease. Tom Ford Beauty Shameless (LE, $35.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (90% similar). Dior Shock (762) (LE, $27.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). NARS Hell-Bent (LE, $20.00) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). Zoya Tamsen (P, $9.00) is lighter, more muted, warmer (90% similar). Chanel Chataigne (669) Le Vernis Nail Colour ($27.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a blackened burgundy with subtle, warmer undertones and a cream finish. It had a slightly thinner consistency, but it didn’t pool along the edges, so application wasn’t challenging. The first coat looks very streaky, but a second coat (and not a thick one at that) evens everything out and yields opaque coverage. Tom Ford Beauty Black Cherry (LE, $35.00) is cooler (95% similar). Color Club Fashion Moment (P, ) is lighter, cooler (95% similar). NARS Other Side (LE, $20.00) is warmer (95% similar). Urban Decay Wrecked (LE, ) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Cult Nails Lamestain (P, $12.00) is cooler (90% similar). MAC Purple Majesty (LE, $16.00) is lighter, cooler, glossier (95% similar). Rescue Beauty Lounge Drifter (LE, $20.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). Chanel Accessoire (P, $28.00) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). Zoya Anja (P, $9.00) is lighter, warmer (95% similar). MAC Blueblood (LE, $16.00) is lighter, warmer, glossier (90% similar). China Glaze Velvet Bow (LE, $7.50) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Chanel Vert Obscur (679) Le Vernis Nail Colour ($27.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is a blackened bluish-teal with a jelly-cream finish (seems heavy for jelly, but it has some of that watery, translucency that you’d expect from a jelly formula). The consistency is thin and watery, and it can pool along the edges. I didn’t test this shade specifically for wear, but even after an hour of wear (about the time I wait for polish to dry before photographing), it did stain towards the base of my nail, so I’d highly recommend using a base coat under this one! MAC Deep Sea (LE, $16.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (90% similar). Cult Nails Awakening (LE, $12.00) is lighter, more muted, warmer (85% similar). Essie Mind Your Mittens (P, $8.00) is lighter, more muted, warmer (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
FORMULA SUMMARY | Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour ($27.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) typically wears seven days on me with minor tip wear, which is about average to a little above average when it comes to polish. I rarely find formulas chip on me, even without base or top coats, so you may want to consider that when looking to me for a judge of longevity. Chanel’s formula tends to dry-down to a glossier shine without a top coat and retains shine a little better over the seven-day wear period. Shades vary from watery to thick, sheer to opaque.

Hey Christine, I’m interested in Chataigne. I have never used a Chanel polish, or really a HE brand for that matter- nothing above Zoya,OPI,etc. You said you can get 7 days wear with no base or top coat? Do you find this is an improvement for you compared to brands that are slightly cheaper like I mentioned? Also, by looking at your photos, your nails look natural or are they acrylics? I know sometime acrylics hold polish longer. My nails will chip in like two -three days with base and top coat with the brands I have been using.
Hey Christine, I just read your “Formula Summary” . So,that pretty much answers my question..lucky duck! 😀
Hey Nicole!
Know you saw the formula summary, but yeah, nail polish in general wears pretty long on me. It’s veryyyy rare that I get chips at all! If I use a base + top coat, it’ll usually get me to 10-14 days of wear with just tip wear. I’ll have more visible nail growth than tip wear!
Some people have great luck with Chanel, but others find it chips very quickly on them 🙁 I don’t think high-end polish necessarily lasts longer unfortunately.
I have natural nails!
Thanks for replying Christine. I’m still thinking this one over. I already spent a lot on this collection this afternoon. On one hand $27 would be a drop in the bucket. But, on the other hand, I already spent so much! part of me has been wanting to see if the HE would perform better for me. But , the other part of me would rather buy the Zoya dupe and put the money toward that Gold Cle de Peau luminizer I have been putting off or those Viseart palettes etc., etc. Know what I mean? I have been in this mindset of treating myself to nicer things since my surgery (my daughter too) . So, I just may throw this in before I come to reality, lol.
I’m so happy to hear you say how long your polish will last! People seem to think I’m exaggerating when I tell them mine lasts up to fourteen days (and sometimes it still looks great when I decide to repaint them). A lot of people also assume my nails are acrylics. That’s probably because I’ll let them get really long (like, “put your eye out when applying eye primer” long) as I hate how time-consuming it is to cut and file them! I’d go as far as to say that filing my nails is my least favorite beauty-related thing to do.
YAY!!! I was waiting for the reviews on these! I’ve had my eye on Chantaigne and Vert Obscur. I think I will just get Chantaigne, though because the Vert Obscur is a bit too blackened. Or I’m just too chicken to wear something that dark ha ha.
It’s superrrrr dark! I thought it was prettier in color with one coat, but it needs two for sure.
I’m eager to try these 🙂 they all look so wonderful
They are pretty! I like that they were all shiny after they dried down.
I like the red and the teal, but for me, $27 is hefty for nail polish. Especially if they aren’t perfect.
I’m sure there are some good dupes out there (I’ll be the first to admit that nail polish dupes aren’t as numerous as eyeshadows here!), though.
I’m definitely bringing Chataîgne home. And perhaps Ecorce sanguine as well. 🙂
Nice!
I like the blackened burgundy and blackened teal. That teal staining at the bottom is kind of pretty (gives a stained ombre effect) , hope it’s not too hard to take off at the end
I think it may stain, so I’d definitely use a good base coat with the teal!
Pretty but dupeable!
True!
Vert Obscur is cool, but I still can’t make myself spend more than $10 on a polish haha. I might have to check out that Essie dupe.
lol! Nothing wrong with that 😉 Gotta save somewhere!
These are some AWESOME fall shades! Buuut, I will look at some of the cheaper dupes for Chataigne and Vert Obscur because when it comes to nail polish, I’m a cheapskate, LoL. Those are my kind of autumn /wintertime nail colors for sure. Deep, borderline Goth.
They scream fall for sure!
Vert Obscur reminds me a lot of “Cynthia” by Zoya.
Thanks, Andrea!
These aren’t my colors. I don’t really do the dark vampy nail very well, even in autumn and winter I still often reach for happy bright colors.
What’s the darkest you go in fall?
Oh I’ll wear black. So I’ll go dark for sure. But only occasionally. 95% of the time I’ll stick to my brights and my corals and my nudes 🙂
I don’t know if you’ve swatched it on this site, but I was swatching my Zoya Frida (it’s a jelly) , and it looks a lot like Vert Obscur. The Zoya would require about 4+ coats to get it to the same depth of color, though. If one of your readers owns the Zoya, it may be worth looking at it as an alternative.
Thank you, CrissyPo!
