Chanel Tisse d’Automne (254) Eyeshadow Quad
Chanel Tisse d’Automne (254) Eyeshadow Quad ($61.00 for 0.04 oz.) is an earth-toned set of shades that ranges from green to pale peach to brown to blackened olive.
Tisse d’Automne #1 is a medium-dark, olive green with warm, brown undertones and a golden, frosted sheen. It had semi-opaque color payoff that was more opaque if you used your brush damp (though Chanel doesn’t explicitly call out the formula as wet/dry). The texture was soft, silky, and easily blended on the skin. On my eye, it lasted for eight hours before creasing slightly. theBalm Kawabunga (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Tisse d’Automne #2 is a soft, pinky-peach with a frosted finish. It had so-so color payoff, which didn’t seem to improve with a damp brush, though it can be layered two to three times for up to semi-opaque pigmentation (anything more just seemed to dust away). It started to crease after eight hours of wear. Tarte Champagne Bubble Bath (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). ColourPop My Treat (PiP, $4.50) is more shimmery (95% similar). YSL Scandal #2 (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). The Estee Edit 1st Light (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker (95% similar). LORAC Dream Girl #10 (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Tisse d’Automne #3 is a medium-dark caramel brown with warm undertones and a frosted finish. It had excellent pigmentation used dry, and the texture was smooth and silky. The color adhered well to the skin and wore well for eight hours. Laura Mercier Burnished Rose (LE, $23.00) is cooler (95% similar). Guerlain Ors et Merveilles #1 (LE, ) is lighter (95% similar). LORAC Mocha (PiP, $19.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Dior Contraste Horizon #4 (LE, ) is less shimmery (90% similar). Chanel Rêve d'Orient #1 (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Tisse d’Automne #4 is a blackened olive green with a fine shimmer that gives it more of a satin-matte look applied. It was on the powdery side, which made it harder to apply–it took more work to blend out the color to avoid patchiness. The color showed signs of fading after seven and a half hours of wear. Clarins Forest #3 (LE, ) is darker, better quality (95% similar). Urban Decay Cobra (LE, $19.00) is warmer (95% similar). theBalm #42 (P, $6.50) is more shimmery (90% similar). I have been waiting for your review on this and the other palette in this collection. I think I am going to get this one. I think a primer will help it out a bit. A bit sad at this price point, I know. But, I do really love the shades.
It’s nice! If you regularly wear primer, I don’t think it’s a big deal 🙂
I do wear primer. I have several kinds! Lol. My first Chanel eye palette is on its way.I ordered the LE one too. I couldn’t resist. Nordstrom has a fantastic return policy. So, if it winds up not worth it or reviewing badly, I’ll return it. I remember it searching nicely. I actually indulged alot in this collection. This is probably the most fall- ish collection I’ve seen this far. But, I’m crossing fingers and toes for a good review:)
I love Tissé D’Automne and so far it is my favorite autumn palette. I agree that the deep olive shadow is very soft and can be powdery, but I don’t really think it is a problem so long as a soft brush is used. (I use a Wayne Goss squirrel pencil brush). I love to use deep shades like this one to soften and smoke the liner around my lashes and then fade it out into the “V”. Using a coordinating pencil eyeliner first is an easy way to anchor it. In the case of D’Automne, I use the Crayon Yeux in Feuille which is a blackened green that works well with the deep olive shadow.
I used Chikuhodo Z for it, but it was still troublesome for me – maybe the brush I used was too soft?
Hi Eileen. Thanks for posting this tip! I just ordered this palette and quite a few other things from this collection. I’ve been waiting for a while . I was hoping it would have scored better. But, the colors are just gorgeous for fall. I couldn’t resist any longer! I have the WG pencil too and I ordered the Feuille liner along with 3 others . You made me a little more hopeful for this one.(:
Nicole, when you get the Feuilles eyeliner (dark green), can you let me know how you like it? I was quite impressed with how Orchidee held up on my oily lids, so I’m eyeing Feuilles. Thanks!
I sure will Katherine! I actually purchased all 4 liners. So, if you are interested in any others,Lmk. The copper colored one, I think it is called Ardent is the only LE one in the bunch though I believe.:)
Eileen, I’m eyeing the Chanel eyeliner in Feuilles. Do you like it? Does it wear well? I have oily lids, but Chanel Orchidee held up very well, so I’m looking to get another color.
Yay – it’s permanent! I have such a weakness for colours like these, which explains why I probably have dupes for all of them, but that probably won’t stop me purchasing this, even though it doesn’t have the best rating….it is just SOOOO beautiful and autumnal and yummy looking.
When I saw the olive green (the lighter one), it made me think of you!
Gooooorgeous quad! <3
It is a nice color combo!
I would love to get this for my mom since the color combo is right up her alley, but I’m a little hesitant to drop that kind of dough for a little over a gram of product. I’ve never used these shadows personally so I don’t know how long they last before you start to hit pan. I know you test a lot of products so you may have never actually gotten the chance to hit pan, Christine, but do you have any idea if the light weight translates to the product’s lifespan?
Visually, they look as big as Chanel’s previous quads (which I think were around 0.20 oz.) or so – I know that a lot of the baked/mineral type products (think MAC) are “lighter” by weight but still take up volume. It doesn’t seem like it will go fast, but I have no idea since I haven’t used one regularly enough to really see it wearing down.
What a great son you are!
If that helps, I have a few Chanel quads, both in this new formula and the previous baked one. I also own the non-baked, US formula (with square pans).
I don’t think these Tissé quads run out faster than the others. They still contain a lot of product, and unless your mother really, really like to scrape the eyeshadow off its lid (mine does! 🙂 ), they should last a long time. It’ll depend on how many eyeshadows she already owns of course, but even if she uses this daily, I *think* it’ll be some time before she hits pan. I use my Tissé quads fairly regularly, and I’m not close to hitting pan on any of them at all.
Anyway, whether you end up purchasing this quad or not, I agree with Tara. 🙂 It’s a lovely idea for your mother!
OMG, I’ve been eyeing the Tisee quads for the longest time, and they finally come out with my favorite colors –olives and browns. This color combo is also hard to find in a quad–the closest ironically is a free GWP Clinique quad that I got long time ago. With primer, this quad should be an A-. I’m getting it!
Woohoo!
Christine, are you planning to review any of the Fall 2015 Chanel eyeliners? I was quite impressed with how Orchidee held up on my oily lids, and I’m now eyeing Feuilles (dark green), which should go nicely with this Automne quad
I didn’t buy any (they’re really painful for me most of the time!), since the collection was so large, I couldn’t justify the cost getting everything for review.
Ok, no worries, I understand. A reader (Eileen) bought this eyeliner, so I will check with her.
Thank you for the swatches and review! I was just wondering, is this quad and the Alezene blush limited edition for Fall 2015?
According to Chanel’s website, they are both permanent. I don’t have any info from Chanel’s press department, just what’s on their website.
These shades look extremely beautiful on your eyes!!
Aw, thanks Renee!
I wouldn’t pay that for a quad, but I think they shadows are really beautiful.
They work together well!
Alright, let’s see if I get this straight ; $61 for only 4 shades total weight .04, that has just a B+ grade? For that kind of dough for so little product , I would only fork it over for an A+ ! I will say, however, that the shade combo is right up my alley. But I have plenty of dupes, just spread out across various palettes and brands.
It’s a really “light” quad in terms of weight, but it doesn’t seem like a small amount, you know?
I think it’s probably just a baked product fluke? Not sure, though. I remember buying my daughter the Physicians Formula baked quads when she was a teen, and they *appear* normal size, but I always thought that was just a visual because they are raised instead of flat. It did take her awhile to hit pan!
I’ve been waiting for your review of this, and now I know I’m getting it. I love these colors together, and I think I’ll get good use out of it.
Woohoo 😀 Enjoy, Laura!
This quad was already sold out at Macy’s in Milwaukee when I was there last week, but they are shipping it to me. I have Tisse Vendome and I seem to have the best luck applying these Chanel shadows with the applicators they come with. They look like just your basic sponge tip, but seem more velvety (?) and seem to do a better job with application than the brushes I have.
So glad they’re able to ship it to you!
Way too warm for me!
I could see that!
The shades are divine – love the inclusion of the olive shades. Even the peach colour is fine with me. Adore the range. It is a shame that some of the colours aren’t as good as the others and for the price is should be. However this palette is stunning and your eye look is lovely.
The olive is a lovely touch!
This actually got a better rating than I thought it would. I skipped out because I was concerned about the pigment payoff (never did see it in person though).
It is a nice, earthy look!
I picked this up the other day and already, I am in love with it. Believe it or not, I wish fall would hurry up and get here (it’s 30C!) so I can really give this quad its full expression!
It’s so you, Mariella! What is your favorite way to wear it so far?
I’ve only worn it once (it really is too hot for anything quite this dark and fall-like) but I put 2 on the inner lid, 3 on the outer lid (goodness, I love that colour – it just GLOWS) and 3 in the outer crease and under my lower lashes. It didn’t exactly look seasonal but I just couldn’t wait to put it on.
