Chanel Coromandel Rouge Allure Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches
Chanel Coromandel Rouge Allure Lipstick
Chanel Coromandel Rouge Allure Lipstick ($34.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a fiery orange-red with enough depth and richness from the red tinge to keep it from looking neon. Clarins Red Prodige is glossier and lighter. MAC Strut Your Stuff is brighter. Estee Lauder Extravagant Red is similar. Chanel Excessive is similar, slightly redder and brighter–almost a poppy red. Cle de Peau Red Abundance is very comparable. Guerlain Genna is rather similar.
The new Rouge Allure formula is supposed to have “concentrated, ultra thin pigments” for full color coverage with a satin finish and “lasting comfort.” The latter from “special hydrating agents” that “leave lips supple and protected.” Coromandel is richly pigmented with full color coverage that is finished with a natural, satiny sheen. It applies evenly without effort, and the color slides on easily, though the formula isn’t so creamy that it feels or looks heavy applied. The color sits comfortably on the lips.
Truthfully, I didn’t notice any difference between the new formula and the original. I feel like saying, “It seemed a little creamier…” is pulling at straws; the effect of knowing that they’re different but not feeling that difference. It’s not a bad thing, as the original formula was quite good. This particular shade wore for six hours and was lightly hydrating during that time period.
Chanel’s Rouge Allure packaging is head-to-toe luxury; it has a black lacquered metal exterior case that closes with a satisfying click. Inside, it’s a gold metal tube with Chanel imprinted on the side of the lipstick itself.

Hi Christine, did you notice if this l/s is similar to Chanel Coromanel Rouge Allure Laque at all? I have that one and is one of my HG’s and it’s running out. And of course the RAL’s are DC’d 🙁
The laque has a little more depth because of its form, and I’d say it has more shimmer. They’re similar – not exactly the same but it might be close enough!
I am sad to hear that there is less gold shimmer as that was part of what made me fall in love with this colour to start but I am terribly happy they brought these colours back and at a cheaper price point! <3
Thank you so so soooooo much for the review, I have been dying to know if they were comparable <3
I found the formula really long lasting on me. Well, I also applied it with a brush, liner, and powder. Held on like GLUE.
Totally agree and everyone that sees it, says it looks amazing 🙂
I love the idea of all these variations of red, and the fact that reds seem to be making a huge come-back, however none of these seem to work for me. They all seem to orange or too pink.
looks frosty. pass. i already have 2 of the ral coromandel that i dropped 90 bucks for.
The new Rouge Allures are very pigmented and have a nice color range, but I feel that the formula itself leaves much to be desired. Though not as drying as the Lancome Rouges in Love, these are somewhat similar in terms of texture.
I love the packaging. These sorts of super expensive lipsticks are so fun to look at but not something I’d purchase (most days, I’m a tinted lip balm person anyway). The formula does sound great. I feel like I’ve been seeing tons of reds recently, but maybe that’s just with the Marilyn collection
Have to agree with you that I think that the differences between the old and the new Rouge Allure formulas may mostly be in my head. I think it might be a bit lighter on my lips, but I’m not 100% sure. Nonetheless, I like the new colours (I picked up Rouge Noir), so I’ll just smile and be happy.
This one looks better on you (I think) but Guerlain Genna looks better on me.
I don’t find it particularly different from Dior lipstick you reviewed a few days ago. I am a huge fan of Chanel lipsticks but this shade of red is not for me. It looks tacky when I put it on. In my opinion the blonde girls are among the very few who look nice with this kind of shade. You also look lovely, Christina.
Lovely orangey-red–it really seems to perk of your whole face! Love it!
I have this shade in the Rouge Allure Laque formula. It’s gorgeous.
This color is gorgeous!
This is so pretty! It’s my kind of color
Are you going to review any more of the new Chanel RAs? I remember you posted a beautiful picture of Extatique that I’d really love a review of.
It suits you very nicely, but way too tomato-y for me. I love blue-based reds.
How close to the color of the Coromandel nail polish is it? I don’t think I’d’be bold enough to wear this shade on my lips, but Coromandel is one of my favorite nail polishes and I always associate it with my little sister, since she bought it for my birthdays, so I’m a bit curious! Anyway, it looks lovely on you.
I don’t think I have Coromandel in polish form!
After comparison shopping for AGES, I finally splurged and bought this lipstick for my only red lipstick. It is PERFECT. I am pale, ashy blonde with medium pigmented lips and this color is great–I can put it on heavy for an impact lip, or put it on light with gloss for a more natural look. Love it!
