True One-Coat Color from Seche

Seche Opulent Nail Lacquer ($8.50 for 0.50 fl. oz.) is described as a “deep fuchsia creme.” It’s a vibrant fuchsia-red with a cream finish. NARS Anardana is brighter, warmer. MAC Toco Toucan is bluer-toned. China Glaze 108 Degrees has shimmer. Zoya Dana is a smidgen lighter.

Seche is set to launch 33 shades of their new Fast Dry One Coat nail colors at Ulta this month (they might already be in stores, but I didn’t see it online yet).  These shades are supposed to deliver full color opacity in just one coat and dry quickly and down to a naturally shiny finish.  When I read that, I was like, “Oh, boy!” because that is a tall order and a whole lot of promises

Opulent carries out those promises rather well.  In one coat, there’s very nearly opaque color coverage; only at certain angles and under certain lighting conditions is a shadow of visible nail line apparent.  It dries down faster than the average polish, and it does dry down to a very shiny finish.  I tested Opulent for wear, and it wore seven days without chipping and had minor tip wear for me (with and without a base/top coat).  The consistency was a little thick but not goopy, just on the thicker side.

We appreciate enthusiasm for new releases but ask readers to please hold questions regarding if/when a review will be posted as we can't commit to or guarantee product reviews. We don't want to set expectations and then disappoint readers as even products that are swatched don't always end up being reviewed due to time constraints and changes in priorities! Thank you for understanding!

I’ve never particularly understood the drive towards one coat nail enamel any more than I understand painting a wall with a single coat of paint. If you want quality, why bust your chops over doing it right. That said, this looks like it would be an amazing enamel with 2 coats!

Agreed. If you have time to do your nails, you have time for two coats. I don’t like the way one coat looks on the nail, anyway. It looks too thin even with opaque color coverage.
