Chanel Beige Rose, Rose Violine, Cassis, Tangerine Le Rouge Crayon de Couleurs Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Beige Rose
Chanel Beige Rose Le Rouge Crayon de Couleurs ($37.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a soft coral with warm undertones and a creamy finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that covered evenly, but there was some color that pulled into my lip lines. The consistency was smooth, creamy, and soft (almost as if it melted upon contact) and comfortable to wear. It wore well for three hours on me and was hydrating.
The formula is supposed to have “rich colour in a single stroke” with a “satiny” finish. The lipstick pencil twists-up (no sharpening required), and the consistency is incredibly creamy, soft, and smooth. The coverage varied from mostly opaque to opaque, depending on the shade, and the wear time ranged between three to five hours with some shades (like the reds and fuchsias) leaving a stain behind. It was a very hydrating and comfortable formula to wear, but they’re so soft that I felt like it was easy to over-apply the product when there isn’t much product in each tube (0.04 oz. compared to a standard Chanel lipstick, which is 0.12 oz.). Twist-up pencils usually contain less product than a twist-up tube of lipstick, but I wish these had a little more (like 0.08 oz.) or else not quite as pricey. I didn’t notice any scent or taste.

Rose Violine
Chanel Rose Violine Le Rouge Crayon de Couleurs ($37.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a soft, medium-dark plum with warm undertones and a creamy finish with a noticeable sheen. It had nearly opaque coverage that went on evenly and smoothly. The texture was creamy, soft and pliable, and not too thick or too thin. There was a touch of color that seemed to gather in my deepest lip line, but it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance. This sahde wore well for four hours and was moisturizing.

Cassis
Chanel Cassis Le Rouge Crayon de Couleurs ($37.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a deep berry with cool undertones and a barely-there violet pearl. It had good pigmentation, though not quite opaque, with a creamy, lightly glossy finish. The consistency had quite a bit of slip, so anyone who experiences feathering with this type of texture might want to pair it with a lip liner (I did not experience feathering myself). It applied evenly and smoothly on the lips. This shade wore nicely for five hours, left a stain behind, and was moisturizing.

Tangerine
Chanel Tangerine Le Rouge Crayon de Couleurs ($37.00 for 0.04 oz.) is a bright, medium-dark orange with warm, red undertones and a subtle, pearl sheen. It had mostly opaque color coverage that went on fairly evenly and smoothly. The consistency ran thinner than the other three, though it wasn’t too thin. The formula was very comfortable, nicely hydrating, and lasted for four hours on me.

Cassis is so nice! WANT!
It is!
Very pretty colors and finish, and wonderful that they’re so comfortable and moisturizing, but such a tiny amount of product for a lot of money — ouch! I really like Cassiss, but already have Jam, Rebel, and Brocade; if I was still tempted, I’d get Warrior, which is also a really good product and contains more than twice as much!
I wish it was a bit more – like NARS’ pencils are 0.08 oz!
Ouch! Only .04 oz. at $37? Um, nope! I sure am glad to see some favorite Hourglass GIRL Stylo dupes for some of these. Especially so Activist and Warrior!
I know! They’re deceivingly small!
Violine, and Cassis are my favourites here!!
I’v been all about shiny/moisturized lips lately, which is WEIRD for me. I’v always always been a matte lip gal (I think it’s because I was teased for my big lips? and wanted them to look less noticeable hmm) But this winter/spring i’v been living for the shine!!
I also love your hair down christine!!! Your hair is so beautiful!
Well, the trend seems to be overlining and plumping lips, so you are already there naturally 😉
I have Rose Violine and I really like how pigmented, long-wearing and comfortable it is! It’s interesting to see how it looks on you, for some reason on me it leans even warmer, so much so that it can look almost coral-ish in artificial light.
The formula is fantastic on these — super moisturizing!
Cassis looks so much smoother in your swatches than in a few others I’ve seen… I wonder if there’s a bit of difference in quality control? I’m still a little leery of darker colors with a glossy finish. The lighter colors in this launch look really good though! No milky streaking like I feared.
The only thing I could think of is I might keep my house a little warmer than average (72-74), so they could be a bit softer overall.
Oh, such investment pieces! I’ll have to check them out the next time I pass by a counter!
Let us know how you like ’em!
I am so impressed at how pretty these colors are – they all look lovely on you!
Thank you, Deborah!
Boy, Tangerine looks awesome on you. I can’t wear orange of any shade. Makes me look seriously ill so I’m completely jealous of those who can. By the way, your hair looks nice down too 😉
Aw, thanks Shari!
I absolutely adore these, I know you don’t get as much product but honestly how often do we makeup junkies ever finish a product anyway?
Just depends on how you use your makeup! 🙂 I agree that if you never finish anything, then it might not be a big deal!
Tangerine is so pretty I am seriously considering it!
Rose Violine is SO pretty, ugh! <3
I have a stupid question guys….sorry. : ( You guys are saying these are less product than other choices. I thought that g/oz measurements were weight. Some formulas might weight more and be the same amount due to ingredients. Wouldn’t ml/oz be volume? Am I totally wrong on that? Does it physically look like less product. I love there but don’t want to feel like I’m ripped off or blow through it too quick.
Hi Dawn,
I didn’t twist it all the way up, so I don’t know how much is in the tube, and it is a thinner tube compared to traditional lipstick, so by eye that would be difficult to assess. The consistency of these is so soft that it’s easy to use more than you need, so based on my experience, I could see finishing these faster than regular lipstick, including Chanel’s own lipsticks.
How does the formula compare to the recent hourglass lip crayons? And how does it compare to the clinique chubby sticks? I love the sound of something so moisturizing but also pigmented! 🙂
The formula is creamier, softer, and thicker in a way (not heavy, though). Chubby Sticks are more translucent, thinner, less hydrating.
Man, I love Rose Violine, Cassis, and Tangerine! I’m a nut for lip pencils ever since the makeup artist at Sephora taught me how to apply the NARS Dolce Vita lip pencil for my wedding.
I really do like the like the finish and the shades all look lovely. Might try one when there’s a sale/GC promo to bring the price/oz down. It’s disappointing at how little product there is.
When is there a sale on Chanel?
A bunch of really lovely colours. Cassis is my favourite. They do seem expensive, though considering how little product there is.
I just bought Rose Violine and LOVE it. The sheen to it is soooo beautiful. It is very moisturizing, which means generally it won’t last long so you must use it with a liner. I don’t mind reapplying and was not very concerned about but the price/product ratio because it’s just going to be my summertime day color.
