Bite Beauty Dolce BB for Lips
Bite Beauty BB for Lips ($24.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “lip enhancing, five-in-one-balm.” It’s supposed to hydrate, repair, prime, and protect with a “color-rich balm.” I bought two shades to try–one lighter, one deeper–and both performed similarly for me (consistency is always a good thing!).
The texture is lightweight, creamy with a high degree of slip, and has a thinnish texture overall. There’s a soft shine after application with decent color, but I don’t know that I’d use the words “color-rich.” It’s lightly hydrating for me, and in general, I find it leaves my lips feeling softer a couple of hours later but doesn’t make them look good initially and instead seems to accentuate the texture of my lips. The major downside to the formula is really that it has a very thin, slippery texture that means the product wears away quickly and regular reapplication is necessary.
You can layer lipstick over it, but my experience is that it’s less of a primer, as it reduced the wear time of the lipstick on its own, and it didn’t make the lipstick look any better. Matte lipsticks varied; sometimes the slickness of the balm made it so the matte color didn’t go on as evenly, other formulas were okay, so your mileage may vary depending on the formula and finish of the lipstick you’re applying over it. I would describe these as a tinted lip balm with some hydration, but if I was going to go for a lip balm by Bite, I would go for the Agave Lip Mask instead. BB for Lips has a sweet, lemon-vanilla scent and sweet taste that occasionally seems like there’s a mere hint of sunscreen. (Quick note: Sephora lists this as “SPF 18” but the package indicates SPF 15.) Be careful with flavored lip products as it can tempt you to lick your lips more often, which doesn’t help hydrate lips!
Bite Beauty Dolce BB for Lips ($24.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “deep purple.” It’s a semi-sheer, muted pink-berry with subtle cool undertones and a soft shine. It applied mostly evenly and lasted for almost two hours. Korres Wild Rose (P, $12.99) is a bit lighter. Chanel Fiction (P, $34.00) is more opaque (true lipstick). See comparison swatches / view dupes.
Bite Beauty Flush BB for Lips ($24.00 for 0.12 oz.) is described as a “light pink.” It’s a light-medium, peachy-coral with warm undertones and a soft shine. It had semi-sheer color coverage that applied evenly. A light shade like this is going to look more different than similar across individuals, as the natural lip color comes through quite a bit, so the result is that this lightens and warms up the natural lip color to a degree, but the natural lip color will play a huge part. This shade lasted an hour and a half on me. MAC Touche (LE, $20.00) is darker. Chanel Secret (85) (LE, $34.00) is pinker. Chanel Melba (75) (LE, $34.00) is lighter. Chanel Gourmandise (76) (P, $34.00) is lighter, pinker. See comparison swatches / view dupes.

Definitely not a choice I would make with a BITE product in mind. I guess I’ve just been more sold on their higher coverage, more pigmented offerings so this isn’t cutting it for me.
Their lipsticks are more hydrating for me, too.
I bought Flush and was so disappointed with the whole product! Should have waited for your review 🙂 for that kind of money for a lip balm, I better LOVE it. I’ll stick with the Fresh tinted lip balms, which I find perform MUCH better.
Aww, I’m sorry to hear you didn’t like yours either, Cassandra!
Eh, not too interested!
Easy skip then!
It stuns me how can they label “natural food grade” a product that contains oxybenzone, which is one of the most controversial sunscreens on the market… That shouldn’ t be allowed, really.
Sadly, I don’t think that there is much regulation over a lot of terms like that on cosmetics 🙁
I love sheer and semi sheer formulas. I love Bite generally. These are just so very, very disappointing! An expensive balm?
Not even a particularly great lip balm (in terms of hydration), either. I find Bite’s lipsticks more hydrating!
Disappointing…and it’s such a great brand generally.
Thanks Christine for sharing this review! This product caught my eye but now I know it’s an easy skip. 🙂
No problem, Carolyn! I really like their Luminous Creme lipsticks – and those are more hydrating on me than these!
These look great as a base for shimmery lipgloss such as Chanel or Dior. I love a clingy tinted lip balm base for a dab of gloss on the centre points so it doesn’t feel or look too goopy.
I would say these are pretty slippery, not really clingy – thin but they move around a lot, just as a FYI!
thanks for the heads up 🙂
Oh yes “color-rich” for sure is misleading! This week has started at a poor note for the products! 😛 I hope some winners come through by the end! 🙂
LOL! Completely unintentional, I swear!
So it’s just tinted lip balm then… We don’t get Bite here, but if we would I’d probably go for a more pigmented formula. These two look nice though, that’s not the issue, but for a tinted lip balm I’d rather look elsewhere and stick to my regular brands.
Kind of! It feels and acts more like a tinted lip balm, but it’s not as hydrating as I’d expect for a lip balm, you know?
I had the same opinion with these guys! The nicest part was the scent/flavor.
The scent was an upgrade from some of their other products!
These were tempting me in Sephora. I asked an SA and they said to stick with Fresh for these types of products but the rest of the line was worth investing in.
What a great SA for being so honest!
I’m so disappointed in the pigmentation 🙁 I was looking at these but I’m glad I saw your review. Definitely not what I’m used to from Bite.
Glad I could share, Phyrra!
I actually like this product, the fact that it’s so sheer makes it (for me), the perfect everyday lip product. I have to agree with you that it doesn’t last too long on the lips, but i didn’t mind reapplying it throught out the day.
How long are they lasting on you, Youssy? I don’t mind reapplying occasionally, but these felt like they vanished super fast!
You’re actually right, I reused it today, and it last a little over 2hrs.
I have dolce. I like it.
That’s great!
Personally, I’ve had great experiences with this!
I got this a while ago in Natural and I have to say, I really enjoy the formula. Usually I use it as a primer and put it on when I put on all my face creams, so it has a while to sink in before I put lipstick over it and it doesn’t seem to hurt the finish or wear time too much.
Also, sometimes if I wear a matte lipstick for too long, it can start to bother me later in the day, and while it does compromise the finish just a bit, dabbing a little of the balm over the top doesn’t hurt the color and makes everything a bit more comfortable.
I’m happy you’re liking yours, Bella! 🙂
I find these really expensive. I wouldn’t want to pay that much then layer a lipstick over them. I prefer more pigmentation.
There are better lip balms out there that can be used similarly (underneath) or better lip primers that can be used underneath *and* prep/prime lips better!
Hehe, these can’t really hold a candle to their creamy, highly pigmented sisters, can they? I think they want to be the shy, sweet, demure ones, but the darker one is wearing patched clothes and the lighter one is so demure she sort of fades out of existence… 😛
It’s odd, but I find the lipsticks more hydrating than these balms!
I wish it lasted longer! I love tinted balms with SPF for daytime and this line even has a pinky brown, but I hate when balms slip away so quickly.
Me too! Maybe I am spoiled, but Jack Black (and many other lip balms, too!) lasts several hours on me, so the idea of reapplying this all the time seems unnecessary.
