MAC Grande Dame Mineralize Rich Lipstick Review, Photos, Swatches

MAC Grande Dame Mineralize Rich Lipstick ($22.00 for 0.14 oz.) is described as a “mid-tonal neutral rose cream.” It’s a medium, rosy pink with a soft frost finish–the shimmer is incredibly fine–and is just barely warm-toned. Tom Ford Indian Rose is darker and less warm-toned. Revlon Pink Truffle is browner. Bobbi Brown Pink Peony is pinker and brighter. Bobbi Brown Nude Rose is more muted, less warm-toned.

The formula on this one had less slip and creaminess compared to the other shades I’ve reviewed thus far, and I imagine it is due in part to the shimmer/frost element in Grande Dame’s finish that’s not present in the other shades. It glides on well overall and doesn’t pull at the lips or cling once applied. It wore for a solid four hours, which is good wear, and it was still as moisturizing as the other shades I’ve worn. The finish is less shiny/glossy compared to other shades, too, but it is not matte.  It has mostly opaque color coverage.  There were a few, very faint, lines of demarcation present if I pressed my lips together.

I really like this color, but I was looking at the dupes and I have or want all of them, so that makes sense 🙂 I don’t normally buy MAC but this I have to admit is tempting.

Tell me about it! Mac usually does nothing for me, but I’m already spotting some truly lovely shades from the new lipsticks!

This color is actually very pretty. I’m excited to try these and I’m glad this one lasted a while as this might be my first purchase of their new lipsticks.

I’m not the biggest Frost fan, but this looks really lovely on you!

On another note Christine, does the lipstick (surface) size make a difference in application? Meaning since it’s wider (based on my Marcel Wanders lipsticks), does it go past your lips during application?

Good point – thank you! My upper lip is thinner so that was the only catch for me when I apply it. I’ve gotten lazy using lip brushes. Do you typically use lip brushes? Why or why not?

I love lipsticks but always find it difficult to find office appropriate colors . So, I’m definitely going to go and buy this one. Pretty shade !

I am quite disappointed with this lipstick… In my experience, it takes 3 swipes to get it almost opaque and within about an hour it is lightened up quite a bit. I don’t find it drying but it’s not moisturizing. If I don’t eat or drink, it lasts maybe 4 hours but like I said – it fades down quickly. The first of this formula that I bought is Lady at play. That one blew me away – opaque color in one swipe, lasted about 6 hours without eating.. and left my lips feeling more moisturized than before I applied it. It’s a gorgeous color too – a good dupe for Cyndi – it’s more opaque and a little brighter.
