Rosy Does It

MAC Rosy Does It Glow Play Blush ($30.00 for 0.25 oz.) is a brighter, medium-dark berry with strong, cool undertones and a satin sheen. It had semi-sheer, buildable coverage when applied with a brush and medium, buildable coverage when applied with fingertips.

The blush had a smooth, lightly emollient consistency that felt malleable beneath some pressure but didn’t have the wetness I’d associate with a traditional cream blush formula. It was thin and more powder-like as soon as it came into contact with my skin, which yielded a more watercolor-effect when this shade was applied and blended out. The color went on fairly evenly but needed some extra care to blend it out perfectly, and I would use a lighter hand to avoid lifting up base products if applying it over foundation/powder. It wore well for eight and a half hours before I noticed fading.

MAC Glow Play Blushes launch February 6th and will be available in 11 shades; see the collection information here.

Formula Overview

$30.00/0.25 oz. - $120.00 Per Ounce

The new, limited edition formula is supposed to have "eight-hour, fade-free wear" with an "ultra-blendable" formula that has "sheer" but buildable coverage with a "gel-cream texture" that is "bouncy." It's gel-to-powder blush that has a lightly emollient, slightly sponge-like quality to it--more like a smoother, more emollient clay-like texture to me--that feels more like powder as soon as it comes into contact with my skin.

The pigmentation was definitely more sheer to semi-sheer, buildable to medium to semi-opaque coverage with some of the deeper/darker hues in the range having more coverage and better building capabilities. I preferred using fingertips for application as I felt it was easier to faster to apply, though fingertips will yield slightly higher coverage compared to a brush. The formula applied well--most of the time--over bare skin as well as over base products like liquid foundation without lifting it up. They wore eight hours before starting to show signs of fading.

I bought this last week during the 25% off sale. My MAC store was sold out of all but 3 shades of this blush and this was the only one that wasn’t warm. As it happens, I got the last one of this shade – talk about “meant to be”. I did think it would be way too bright and pigmented but after swatching it, I fell in love with the texture and colour. Applied with a Real Techniques flat topped foundation brush or a MAC 130, the results are wonderful – it looks like a natural flush of colour on my cheeks.
