Tom Ford Noir Fume Eye Color Quad Review & Swatches
Noir Fume
Tom Ford Beauty Noir Fume Eye Color Quad ($88.00 for 0.35 oz.) is a new, neutral color story that includes two matte shades and two subtle, shimmer shades. For those looking for intense, metallic finishes, this is not that; the shimmers are subtle, more satin-to-pearl when applied to bare skin with a dry brush.
I definitely don’t think there are enough satin finish eyeshadows on the market, but these aren’t the best example of them as they were on the thinner side, so they did not apply as evenly or as easily a they could have. Both matte shades performed well with good coverage, blendability, and longevity.

Noir Fume #1
Noir Fume #1 is a light-medium beige with moderate, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque color coverage in a single layer with a soft, silky consistency that was more substantial and velvety, so it had less fallout and wasn’t as prone to sheering out as I’ve experienced with other beige matte shades from the brand. The color stayed on well for seven and a half hours before fading visibly.

Noir Fume #2
Noir Fume #2 is a light, golden brown with warm, yellow undertones and a subtle, pearly sheen. It had semi-opaque coverage with a slightly thin texture that wasn’t powdery or dry so much as it seemed overly emollient, so it was hard to apply with a brush and to get even coverage. I felt like this also had the effect of tamping down the effect of the shimmer, so it looked more satin-to-pearl applied. The color blended out well but showed signs of fading after seven and a half hours of wear.

Noir Fume #3
Noir Fume #3 is a medium-dark brown with subtle, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had opaque coverage, but it looked a little faded and less shimmery when applied to bare skin. The texture was smooth to the touch, lightly emollient but not dense, so the thinness is where I felt like it was more of a let-down as it didn’t have the best adhesion. It lasted nicely for seven and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Noir Fume #4
Noir Fume #4 is a blackened, taupe-brown with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It had excellent pigmentation in a single layer, while the texture was incredibly silky, sooth, and finely-milled without being powdery, so fallout wasn’t an issue. The eyeshadow applied evenly and blended out effortlessly. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading a bit.

Hmm, I’m feeling a little conflicted. This was the only one out of all 5 that had me a little bit interested in it as a solid looking utilitarian quick neutral eye look, but those two shimmers don’t sound so easy to work with. I love the eye look you did with it, though.
There really isn’t anything in this particular quad that makes it feel special and deserving of the price point for me personally. I like the Mink quad, but this one perhaps doesn’t have enough contrast to appeal to me although the look you did is beautiful and rich looking without being over the top.
I like the colour story here – but not the execution on the shimmery/satin shades. Like you Christine, I wish there were more satin shades around – it’s a good cross between matte and shimmer.
But these shades are emimently dupeable and it is expensive for what you get.
Your eye look is lovely.
