Tender Love (55)

Sephora Tender Love (55) Cream Lip Stain ($14.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a medium-dark plum with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque color payoff in a single layer, which applied evenly and smoothly across my lips. The consistency was lightweight, thin but creamy, and easy to spread (almost too easily!). This shade was still going strong after eight hours of wear and felt non-drying.

Formula Overview

$14.00/0.169 oz. - $82.84 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to have "high-coverage" that goes on "smooth" and yields a "silky, lightweight stain" that is "long-lasting" and "never sticky" and "won't dry out lips." One of the signature traits for the formula is that it is a thinner (and yet somehow creamy) texture that does spread well but feels thin and very lightweight on the lips. It dries down quickly, but I never felt like it was troublesome to apply, even if I needed an extra moment to get around the edges of my lips, so it was a more forgiving formula despite setting more quickly. Once it set, the color did stay locked on for hours--I tested shades for around eight hours and many were still going strong. The formula was non-drying to slightly drying to me. They had a moderately strong, sweet scent (almost like burnt sugar) that also smelled just slightly "perfume-y" to me, but it seemed to dissipate after an hour of wear.

The pigmentation varied from shade to shade, but it did seem that the more shimmery and metallic shades often were less pigmented and did not always apply as evenly and sometimes seemed to sit in my lip lines. The cream/matte shades applied more evenly and had more opaque coverage on average.

Very Vintage (87)

Sephora Very Vintage (87) Cream Lip Stain ($14.00 for 0.17 oz.) is a deep plum with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. The pigmentation was fantastic with opaque, even color coverage in one layer. The liquid lipstick was very lightweight, smooth, and creamy without being thick or too fluid/heavy on my lips. It was easy to apply the color across my lips, and it dried down fast enough that it didn’t gather much in my lip lines (though it was in my deepest ones just a bit but not noticeable from a normal viewing distance). It stayed on well for over eight hours on me and was neither drying nor hydrating to me.

What immediately struck me about these two beautiful shades is that the dupe list for each of them is nearly identical with one exception, but their listed in a different order. Interesting.

The second thing that struck me is that I don’t own anything from either list!!! But I’m going to be good and stick with my new no-buy commitment.

Very Vintage is gonna be mine! It just has such a sweet, yet sassy grapey-plum color to it, that I cannot resist it.

Oddly, Tender Love looks like a slightly lighter, more bright version of Very Vintage. But I know how that goes with me. Today, I wore CP x Shayla C’mon Sis to the courthouse in downtown Phoenix. It looks good, but lighter than I was expecting. I think my son was just relieved that I wasn’t donning purple, red or orange lips, LOL.
