ColourPop Dusk Till Dawn Shadow Kit Review, Photos, Swatches
Dusk Till Dawn
ColourPop Dusk Till Dawn Shadow Kit ($30.00 for 0.44 oz.) contains six, full-sized cream eyeshadows. They’re all quite sparkly/shimmery, and I think that if you aren’t someone who likes to apply your eyeshadows with fingertips or use glittery eyeshadows patted on top of other eye colors, this set might not be that functional or easy to use. Of the six, one was described specifically as sheer (New Magic), and the rest had semi-opaque to opaque coverage with solid wear, though some of the very glittery shades had a touch of fallout over time–barely a blip relative to just how glittery they were.
I find that ColourPop’s Super Shock Shadow formula wears extremely well on me: easily 10 hours without creasing and fading. I like applying them with flat, synthetic brushes and will use brushes over fingertips as long as I can, as my fingertips seem far too large for my lids and give me no precision, so it’s just not an ideal tool for me unless I’m only using one shade all over the lid or patting a shade on the center of the lid. This set is best used with fingertips for four of the six shades, so just keep that in mind if that’s a deal-breaker for you!

New Magic
New Magic is a bright, whitish base with shifting blue-to-teal sparkle and pearl. It had sheer coverage, which was as the brand described, and was ideal for layering on top of other products, whether eyeliner, eyeshadow, or even lipstick. The consistency was smooth, emollient without being too wet, and spread evenly. It wore well for 10 hours with minor fallout over time.

Formula Overview

ColourPop Super Shock Shadow is a cream-based formula that comes in a multitude of shades and finishes. The more metallic shades have the most slip to them (they have a “wetter” feel), while the more matte ones have a firmer, more clay-like consistency. Almost every shade I’ve tried from ColourPop has been exceptionally long-wearing (10+ hours of wear, usually there until I remove, even 14 hours later). The pigmentation can vary from shade to shade, but the average shade is quite pigmented.
From feedback I’ve seen from readers, many love them but some don’t like them at all. They aren’t a traditional cream eyeshadow, as they are denser (more sponge-like), and they apply best with flat, firm, synthetic brushes (I like the MAC 242 and 249) for me. The brand recommends using fingers for the most pigmented application, but I’ve only felt that fingers were necessary on a few shades (usually the super glittery ones).
The more matte shades can be on the drier side and vary from medium to opaque in coverage, though they're often buildable. They can be a little hard to diffuse the edges of, though some are lovely to work with.
The more glittery shades have been the weakest to me, as they can be sheerer or harder to apply. Sometimes, they are more pigmented and work like the other finishes in the formula, but often, they are sheerer and only function well patted on top of more pigmented eyeshadows to add glitter. They do, however, tend to have little fallout over time with the occasional shade having a more moderate amount of fallout (but still less fallout than most powder eyeshadows with glitter).

LELimited Edition. $6.00.
Goodish
Goodish is a light-medium, pinky lavender with warm undertones and flecks of gold and lavender sparkle. It was quite glittery, and as a result, it only had semi-sheer coverage that was hard to build up and hard to apply with a brush–I only found it usable with fingertips, but it still didn’t go on that evenly. Once on the lid, the color lasted for over 10 hours with only minor fallout.

Goodish
LELimited Edition. $6.00.
Stargirl
Stargirl is a light, rosy copper with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation when applied with a fingertip, and it was a shade that applied better with a fingertip than with a brush, though a brush was workable. The texture was slightly emollient and felt “chunky” due to the high sparkle content. There was slight fallout after 10 hours of wear but no fading or creasing.

Half Light
Half Light is a medium, purple-leaning plum with subtle, warm undertones and a glittery finish that shifted from gold to teal. This was a really unusual shade, and it definitely needed to be swatched to be seen as it looked quite different on than in the pot! It had semi-opaque pigmentation, which wasn’t too buildable, and it did not apply as evenly as I would have liked. Again, it applied better with fingertips or layered over a stronger base color. It lasted for 10 hours with minor fallout on me.

Babykins
Babykins is a deep plum with subtle, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had a very smooth, lightly wet consistency that was emollient enough to glide easily across the skin and blend out with ease, but it still yielded opaque coverage on the lid. This shade was still going strong after 10 hours of wear.

Slay Bells
Slay Bells is a medium-dark brown with warmer undertones and satin finish with slight sparkle. The color payoff was opaque in a single layer with a smooth, slightly drier texture compared to the other shades. It applied well with a brush to the lid, though it took a little extra effort to blend out the edges when I tried to use it in the crease. This shade wore well for 10 hours without fading or creasing.

How does this Babykins hold up to last year’s release? This release seems to look a little more opaque and smoother, did you find they were pretty similar at least?
I felt like they were pretty similar!
This is a gorgeous little group of shades for such a reasonable price, I hope the brand does one involving more cool toned shades, as an alternative.
Really pretty eye look Christine.
Thank you, Genevieve!
Beautiful set!
It is!
I have had this set in my cart on the CP website all day…glad I didn’t pull the trigger because the shade I liked most is the lowest-scoring one! Honestly though, I don’t know why I even consider buying SSS – they wear terribly on me (instant creasing, quick to fade, tons of fallout – even with primer).
Who am I kidding – I KNOW why I consider buying them despite my repeated bad experiences…it’s because of the AMAZING looks Christine creates with them, and the overall awesome color/finish selection and value!
Don’t get it, Lindsay – if the formula doesn’t work for you to the degree that you’re saying (like it’s not little things!), there’s nothing about these that would change that, IMO!
I really like Half Light and I bet it would look nice with my green eyes but I don’t think I can justify buying the whole set for one color that got a C+ rating!
I don’t think it’s worth it if you don’t want the rest of the set, but the shade is really nifty – if it was sold alone, it’s still one I’d (personally!) be considering despite the performance.
I’d definitely pick it up if it was available as a single. ColourPop shadows are cheap enough that it’s worth seeing if I could make a C+ shade work (I don’t mind applying them with my fingers, for instance). Instead I’ll probably see if I can create a similar effect by layering the green shade from the KvD Alchemist palette over a lilac color 🙂
I have Babykins from last year, SO pretty! And as soon as I saw the swatch of Half Light in your gallery, I knew it was a unique shade, was hoping to see some close dupes, but nope! I wouldn’t mind getting it, but so far, it’s only available in a set, not as a single.
Half Light was really interesting!
I really love the looks you created with this set.
Thank ya, Sparkle!
It certainly does have some very unique and beautiful shades! Very, very tempting!
I love several of these shades. I haven’t placed a ColourPop order in about a month. Might be time to make another one. The shade Half Light is really pretty and is my kind of shade. Your eye looks are so pretty. I am always tempted after seeing your eye looks. Luckily, all the palettes/singles I have purchased because they look beautiful on you, have worked for me. I don’t have your blending skills but I manage to make it work, LOL. I seem to be talking myself into this palette.
I love these colors! And the look you did Christine with the darker outer corner and the greenish bottom lash is perfect! I would love to have this set!
Guess it’s kind of appropriate that a shade called Goodish would be graded C+! Maybe they held off making it better on purpose 😉
Got this yesterday at CP CM. Really was intending to use most of them as toppers or hits, and was not surprised by the review, either for app or grade. Think it will work. Very surprised by half light! Kind of expected a gray plum duo….that worked better. We’ve all got high expectations for CP, so this is a minor letdown. Although, my Glass Bull is dreadful, and most reader’s was quite fine. The proof is in the putting….bad pun. Your look is wonderful, and the babykins seems to mitigate some of the mediocrity of half light, etc. You continue to amaze us, with the work ethic and integrity.
I wish Half Lights did better, it’s a very pretty color.
Slay Bells has also caught my eye.
I love Babykins, but already have too many similar colors. Your swatch gallery has been a life saver with organizing my collection and making sure I don’t buy too many dupes.
By the way, I noticed that there is no swatch for Colour Pop Party of Five super shock shadow. Is this still forthcoming, or is it under a different name?
Sorry, I don’t have everything from ColourPop!
No worries, the amount of swatches you do have is still awe-inspiring!
For me the super glittery ColourPop shades like Half Light are where it’s at. Relatively speaking they aren’t the easiest to work with, but generally they’re an easy way to wear glitter and they tend to have a nice shift. My favorite CP shade is DGAF.
Man, that sucks about the two duds. It’s nice all together though!
