My skin tone/coloring: fair, cool

Favorite look you worn: I’ve been wearing Smashbox Red Rage lipstick all this week (so as not to clash with my poppy – well, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it) and it has made every look I’ve worn this week that much nicer. Eyes – mostly ABH Vermeer with Chocolate in the outer V and UD Naked to blend out and, big surprise, Dior Rosy Glow Blush on my cheeks (I’m sure it’s boring for others to read this week after week). I’ve started “spot using” Dior Forever Foundation and I’m loving it.

Most used product of the week: Smashbox Red Rage lipstick and Dior Rosy Glow blush

Any new beauty discoveries: Dior Forever Foundation in 014; this shade is supposed to be good for cancelling out redness and I’ve been spot using it on my cheeks and blending with the Shiseido foundation brush – I love the results because it doesn’t look like a full face of foundation (which it isn’t!)

The look you described sounds so pretty. I already made my Sephora purchases, and wouldn’t you know it, I forget all about the Dior Rosy Glow — again! I think I’m more than tempted now to make a second go-around at Sephora and pick it up. I’m curious, Mariella, what color is your hair?

Mariella Avatar

What a lovely comment, Anne. I think of my hair as brown but a lot of people consider me blonde! My stylist puts in both highlights and lowlights so that my regrowth (grey!!!) doesn’t show quite so much. So my hair is really brown with lighter highlights but I guess as it all fades between salon visits, it looks blonder to people. My passport says “brown” and I’ve always thought of myself as having brown hair (and now, I’m just fighting to keep the grey from taking over though I wouldn’t mind some grey growing in).

Regarding Rosy Glow, it’s a pricey purchase so now would be a good time to get it (I think the 20% ends tomorrow) but I’d try it out first, not knowing what your colouring is. I don’t know how if it adapts well for folks with warmer skin tones who look better in peachy or coral blushes so if that’s you, try it in the store first before putting out a sizable sum for something that might not work.

My skin tone/coloring: light to medium, warm MAC NC 23 ish

Favorite look you worn: I did this yesterday and surprised myself. MAC Gravitas palette + Viseart #10
Soft brown or Bamboo in crease (I also subbed the same shade in the Viseart #10 palette), buff upwards after most color is off brush to act as transition also, smudge on lower lash line
Medium brown for crease color (MAC Espresso or another in Viseart #10 palette), smudge on lower lash line, keeping closer to lash
MAC Concrete or Lofty+Pepper very lightly but precisely in crease to deepen it a smidge, lightly pack on outer third of lower lash line and then smudge
No outer v (I have always done outer v until recently but I haven’t been doing it lately. I think I will just reserve it for when I want more dimension and depth).
Dark brown shade in the Diane Kendal MAC palette as lid base
MAC eds Soul Serenade on lid
MAC Lowlights or Darkness of Calm Fluidline – line very close to upper lashline (doesn’t even have to be visible) from middle to outer corner, tightline
MAC Select 1 blush and highlighter combo (the mauve/pinkish one)
MAC Hug Me lipstick
Blend with Guerlain Meteorites

I really like how this turned out – Hug Me ended up being a barely there/mlbb with a soft sheen and kept the look soft and neutral. I haven’t been doing the outer v lately and have been really liking it.

Most used product of the week: Too many staples to name, ha! But I am trying to use up MAC Lip Blossom so it doesn’t go bad, so have been combining it with other lipsticks.

Any new beauty discoveries:
1. A new appreciation for concealer, I guess. I keep it close to my undereye and use it much more sparingly, just enough to even out any color. I don’t do the highlighting triangle+powder underneath the eye anymore because it just looks too stark. I think concealer (for me) only fits with a look if I am using a more medium coverage foundation; I don’t use it if I am using a sheer foundation.

2. Less is more these days. Kind of a quandry because I LOVE wearing makeup, love a full face, love putting it on and ‘getting ready’. I can also get heavy handed, though. I am using less product and techniques these days and love the way it looks, but I miss the glam days. It’s been a learning curve.

My skin tone/coloring: Light, neutral

Favorite look you wore: Urban Decay Naked3 palette on eyes using Limit as transition, Nooner and Factory in crease, and Trick on eyelids. Clinique Brow Shaper in Charcoaled, Cover Girl Clump Crusher mascara. Estée Lauder Double Wear in Desert Beige, Tarte Shape Tape concealer, Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder, NARS blush in Orgasm, Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Highlighter 01. Urban Decay Vice lipstick in Rapture.

Most used product of the week: Urban Decay Naked3 palette

Any new beauty discoveries: I got the MAC lipstick mini Flat Out Fabulous from the holiday collection and I have fallen in love with this shade!!! Also, I rediscovered my UD Naked3 palette this week, which has been gathering dust. I love it, but I wish it had more mattes.

My skin tone/coloring: Medium w/ olive undertones MAC NC37, Lancôme Teint Idole Foundation N360, Fenty 290, deep brunette, blue-green eyes w/ gold flecks.

Favorite look you worn: All the brightest purples and fuchsias in the ND Lila Palette! I first applied my trusty MAC Orb to browbone, KVD Clementine as transition, then ND Magnetic to deepen crease, Viola all over mid lid, Amethyst on outer and inner lid blended inward to create a halo effect, a little bit of Juneau to inner corners, Amethyst and Purpure to lower lashline. Lined upper tightline w/ MJ Blaquer Highliner, lower lashline with Nyx Black Hole. UD Rapture Afterglow Blush, CP Here Kitty Kitty on cheeks w/ Nyx Taupe blush to contour. Nyx Mahogany Slim Lip Pencil laid down on lips w/ Fenty Astro-Naughty on top.

Most used product of the week: Natasha Denona’s Lila Palette and UD Rapture Afterglow Blush.

Any new beauty discoveries: Possibly! When using creamier powder eyeshadows, don’t use as much eye cream underneath them or else! May try powdering over my primer with an HD powder, too.

My skin tone/coloring: Very fair with neutral undertones; magenta/red hair; hazel/green eyes.

Favorite look you worn: EYES — Urban Decay Primer Potion in Enigma. LORAC Pirates of the Caribbean Eyeshadow Palette: Lost at Sea (crease/transition), Sea Haze (inner 1/3 of lid), Yo Ho (center of lid), Black Pearl (outer 1/3 of lid; crease). Wet n Wild Wild Cosmos highlighter on brow bone and inner corner. UD 24/7 Eye Pencil in Twice Baked (lower lash line). Mascara is Physician’s Formula Sexy Booster in Va Va Voom. CHEEKS — Ulta blush in Make a Mauve with Wet n Wild Wild Cosmos HL (from Megaglo palette). LIPS — Bite Beauty Creme Lipgloss in Lavender Pearl over ColourPop Lippie Pencil in Petit Fore.

Most used product of the week: My usual staples. I have a bunch of new stuff, so I’ve been changing everything every day.

Any new beauty discoveries: Bite Beauty Creme Lipgloss in Lavender Pearl over ColourPop Lippie Pencil in Petit Fore looks freaking A-MA-ZING! I got more compliments and people asking what I was wearing than I had in a long time.

My skin tone/coloring:Light medium, yellow undertone.

Favorite look you worn: Shimmery pink and gold sunset eye with CP You Had Me At Hello palette, mauve blush topped with champagne gold highlighter and a deep rose matte lip.

Most used product of the week: Sephora eyeliner in 5th Ave – deep matte cool brown, softer than black!

Any new beauty discoveries: Sadly, no. I was delighted that Colourpop launched their Sephora/holiday stuff on their site with a 20% off sale though – Golden State of Mind will be MINE! 🙂

Favorite look you worn: Makeup Revolution Iconic 3, elf Shimmer Eyeliner Pencil in Plum Passion, Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Paaarty, Laura Geller Diamond Dust Baked Gelato Swirl Illuminator, and deluxe Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Perla (it’s more cool-toned than I normally wear, but it worked with everything).

My skin tone/colouring: Porcelain, with pink undertones

Favourite look you worn: Using the Lorac Pro Metals and Sephora It palette: one of the mattish taupe shades in the crease, Amber (a coppery shade) on the lid and Graphite in the v of my eyes.

Most used product of the week: La Roche Posay’s Ultra Light SPF 50 cream as it’s starting to warm up here and I have used it on my face and neck (plus other sunblock on my arms) every day.

Any new beauty discoveries: That looking for perfumes is just as interesting as looking for makeup.
And with the warmer weather, I am wearing brighter shades so I am reaching for different kinds of eye shadows and lipsticks.

Lt-med coolish. Look, well I only got to eyes today for all week, but 2 people told me I looked beautiful. Really? I’m 69, so I find that a case of suspending disbelief… Face: the ordinary 2.0 P, Nars blissful, w/abh spectra HL. Lips:BB Bond. Eyes: Lorac mega 3: vintage in the crease, dusty mauve inner third, mist two thirds, vintage outer vee, up and out, with a hit of glacier in the center, tad of pink cream for browbone, Mac shoreline lower lash and waterline, and outer third of upper lash line, all upper tight line. Masc was TIS stretchex, but I wish I had used Mac beets me to pick up the dusty mauve, lips, cheeks. Most used: aside from the regulars, the ordinary foundation. Cannot believe it is that realistic and good a match at such a low price. It’s about 1/7 of the KGD. Discoveries: liked all the Beautylish order. Quelle surprise! Not. The foundation is fine, and the Makeup Atelier concealer is not too dry (like CP) or so creamy that it runs mascara. It self sets adequately. In the cooler spectrum, think they call it apricot, there is a bit of corrector, so it’s not a straight beige. Usually use the Becca brightener anyway, but it can cut down the need for a corrector step. It, too, is not expensive. Tried sugarpill pressed shadow for the first time, in subterranean. Great color, boldish, but not too shimmery. Too bad I got a wrong darker foundation for summer, but will call/email. Beautylish does good work.

Colouring: warm beige in most foundation
Still trying to hit pan on a Smashbox Full Exposure eyeshadow and fully pan Benefit Dallas powder however really enjoyed this look paired with MAC Dare You lipstick.
Discovery : Bare Minerals Moxie lipgloss in Debutante. Do want to try Gen Nudes next.

My skin tone/coloring: light-medium with yellowish undertones

Favorite look you worn: I like a neutral everyday face with a light base and just some bronzer, eyeliner and mascara, but I tried a halo-type eye look with shimmery pink lid colours and gunmetal accents and ended up loving it!

Most used product of the week: I’ve been trying to use up some everyday basics before they turn so it must be between my UD foundation, H&M powder foundation, Eylure brow pencil and L’Oréal kohl liner.

Any new beauty discoveries: this is not a new peoduct but i finally bought myself a NYX Butter Gloss (in Crème Brulée) and honestly the formula is so good, non-tacky and non-tingling, looks gorgeous and wears off nicely too. It definitely makes my day better if I’m wearing it lol! Definitely getting more shades.
