Skin tone: Medium Warm (MAC NC37, Born This Way Sand)
Favorite product this week: This is a very hard question to answer! Favorite product bought this week? It would have to be a toss up between Tarte’s Shape Tape or the Tarte Pro Glow Contour and Highlight palette. Favorite overall product? Jouer’s Skinnydip eyeshadow palette.
Most used product of the week? Tarte Pro Glow Contour and Highlight Palette.
New beauty discoveries? The Tarte Pro Glow Contour and Highlight Palette. This palette was not on my radar at all. I went to Ulta to find a good contour palette, and was really torn between cream vs powder. The sales associate recommended the Tarte palette, which had both, but I wasn’t convinced. I could see the quality of the palette, but I didn’t want anymore highlighters. I continued to look at other contouring products in the store, and then I asked another sales associate for her recommendation. She recommended the same palette! As I was grabbing the last two in the store (one for myself, one for my daughter), a third salesperson told me she loved the Tarte palette too. Long story short, the contours (reason I bought the palette) are both very good, and the highlighters are excellent too. My daughter has fallen in love with Stunner, and she has been wearing it alone–with no other make up of any kind–the entire week.
I feel like a honorable mention needs to be made for the Tarte Make Believe in Yourself palette under the category of most-loved product of the week. I chose the Tarte Contour Palette and Shape Tape over the Make Believe in Yourself Palette because I was thinking, What would be the one (or two items) I would not be willing to return? But when it comes to that happy, giddy, I-can’t-wait-to-put-on-my-makeup-today item, Make Believe in Yourself definitely won my heart.
Tammy,
I have the Tarte Make Believe in Yourself palette on the way and I am so excited to see that you love it. I wasn’t sure about it because of all the shimmers but so excited to get it and play now.
Skintone / coloring : light, MAC NC 20, med brown hair and eyes
Favorite product: Tarte Dream Big Palette and(eyeshadows in Risk taker, Ambitious & All In) Gucci Bamboo perfume.
Most used: Tarte Dream Big palette, MAC In Extra Dimension 3D Black mascara, ABH Brow Wiz, Loreal Infallible Pro Matte Foundation and KVD Lock It Loose Translucent Powder
New discoveries : Tarte Dream Big Palette. MAC Ray Beam Mineralize Baked Blush
My skin tone/coloring: Light neutral, with a bit of yellow undertone
Most loved product of the week: ABH Modern Renaissance palette. It’s new for me and I’m still experimenting with it. It’s such a great collection of colors.
Most used product of the week: I’ve been very into my KVD Shade & Light Contour Palette. I had put it aside for several months, but I love it again.
Any new beauty discoveries?: I had a MAC MUA apply foundation to my face with the 170 brush and wound up buying the brush. It is so soft and dense, and applies foundation beautifully.
Seraphine, I was at a MAC store 2-3 years ago, and the MUA recommended the 170 brush. I bought it and it has become my go-to foundation brush, even though I have about 6-7 others, from brands such as Wayne Goss, Marc Jacobs, Shiseido, Zoeva, Real Techniques, etc. It wasn’t an instant favorite, but over time it grew on me and now if I’m using a brush, I reach for the MAC 170 every time.
Tammy, I have a few other foundation brushes, too, and I can already see that the 170 will become my favorite.
My skin tone/coloring: Fair with neutral undertones
Most loved product of the week: NYX Microbrow pencil in Taupe
Most used product of the week: NARS Steven Klein One Shocking Moment face palette. It was the only bronzer/contour/undereye setting powder/blush I brought on vacation.
Any new beauty discoveries? Neutrogena Hydro Boost foundation. I’ve had it for a while but never felt like it blended well on my skin. I’ve been experimenting with it the last couple days. It turns out I just needed to use more and blend with my fingers! 🙂
My skin tone/coloring: light to medium with warm undertone, MAC NC 23/Giorgio Armani LSUVF 5.5/Estee Lauder 2N1/Tom Ford Bisque/Shiseido Synchro Skin Golden 3
Most loved product of the week: Tom Ford Paradisco Cream and Powder Eye Color – I love the glisten-y glow it gives. I usually go for more dimension and use 3 or 4 colors with eyeliner but I’ve been wearing this with a transition shade and then the cream on the lid with the powder dotted on the center. I really like it with a bronzed, glowy face and a pinky coral lip.
Most used product of the week: Tom Ford Paradisco Cream and Powder Eye Color
Any new beauty discoveries?: New to me: MAC Faintly Fabulous. I like being able to pick a single shade or mix of any of them. I use it for highlighting so far, may try as a finishing powder with a different brush.
Skin tone: Very fair, cool under-toned, MAC NW 5-10
Favorite product of the week: Carli Bybel Deluxe Palette. I wasn’t convinced about this palette but saw it at Ulta last weekend and since it was to reasonably priced I purchased it. I haven’t used much else this week.
Most used product this week: The Mario Badescu Mist, the green one with cucumber and green tea. Using several times a day in this hot week.
New beauty discoveries: Cover Girl Smoothing Foundation in Ivory. I watched a video about this foundation and decided to give it a try. It is like $115.00 cheaper than the Cle de Peau (which I will go back to using in the winter) but so far seems to be tolerating the heat better than the Cle de Peau. No separating but not as much coverage as I would like. I am trying different foundation mixes but overall I am really happy with this foundation.
My skin tone/coloring: Medium w/ olive undertones MAC NC37 or Lancôme Teint Idole 24HR Foundation N 360, deep plummy-brunette, blue-green eyes w/ gold flecks.
Most loved product of the week: Out of things reviewed; Huda lip gloss! Out of things in my own stash; last Saturday’s lots using Nars Calisto on mobile lid w/ the 2 purpley shades from MAC Oh My Banana palette with MAC Waveline Fluidline wing and UD Pseudonym on lower lashline, CP Might Be w/ UD Jawbone and NOHO on cheeks, MAC Love You Big Time Lipglass w/ Nyx Purple Rain Slim Lip Pencil.
Most used product of the week: It CC Cream, CP Might Be, Maybelline Full & Soft Waterproof Mascara, and Marc Jacobs Blaquer Highliner.
Any new beauty discoveries? That I can wear a REAL nude! UD Jean-Michel Basquiat Abstract with Nyx Nude Truffle and/ or Earthtone Slim Lip Pencil, plus maybe a tiny bit of MAC x Mariah Carey Butterfly Bling looks so glam and J-Lo like! So between this one and MAC Shy Girl, I have some truer nudes to wear with much more dramatic or darker smokey eyes. Although MAC Marque is still my numero uno go-to nude lip!
Abstract is amazing and totally caught me my surprise, as it’s a rare true nude that I can wear, too. I keep seeing people — with a variety of skin tones — saying they’ve been pleasantly surprised by it. UD needs to make it permanent!
I totally agree, Rachel! They really should make it part of the permanent lineup! Hey, if they could do it with the Gwen Stefani and one of the AIWBTLG Lipsticks, they can work in Abstract.
Nancy, I like to layer Abstract on top of Epigram. Epigram is so warm, and Abstract is so grey by comparison, and together they make something I like quite a bit!
My skin tone/coloring: light to medium with yellow undertones, dark brown eyes, black hair
Same answer for everything: Tom Ford Golden Peach eye duo–I’m having a love affair with it at the moment. I find that my makeup altogether looks more refined when I use it. Maybe I feel I must be on my poshest behavior around such luxury 😉
Not necessarily on-topic but single shadows have been on my mind lately. I want to start collecting a solid set of everyday go-to pans. What’s everyone’s single shadow favorites? Actually this might be a good Temptalia Asks You question!
Stila Kitten
Milani Bella Ivory
MAC Naked Lunch, Soba, Vanilla, Soft Brown, Charcoal Brown, Ricepaper, Rule, Shroom, Amber lights, Bamboo
Nyx Bad Seed
Hi Joyce. My favorites are either Urban Decay or Make Up For Ever. For the MUFE a cheaper alternative to getting a collection started is to buy their artist palettes when Sephora puts them on sale. Of course, palettes are always the cheaper alternative. I do tend to like more pigmented shadows.
If you don’t mind them being in single compacts or jars, I highly recommend the Armani solo shadows and the Chantecaille mermaid shadows.
~nw20. Wore la rosee du soir today with virtually no effect. It performed kind of like a mild highlighter! Just that and most used/fave of week 5 o’clock. What a great return to Tarte that, beach waves, and vacay are! Yet another thing that would have escaped my radar, if not for this blog. Thanks so much. Finding that COTZ flawless complexion (spf50, mineral) plays well with Paula long name TM. Think it’s nano zinc, so gave it a long dry down walking the dogs, and with the 30 on top, had no sun reaction today. I was on a day trip, primarily outdoors. There’s no ‘real’ tint to the COTZ, and very little in the Paula, so I was surprised the rosee did not show. I have not deliberately sunned all year, but still must have darkened some. Can’t avoid it at the beach. Maybe I’ll dare try the ocean tomorrow. Yay ocean. Cannot believe how fast Amazon ships with prime. Have my replacement Cosrx cleanser in 2 days! Wtf? And A has enough power to make the USPS deliver packages on Sunday. Just waiting to see what they do with Whole Foods. Avoided A until I simply had to…..
My skin tone/coloring: Very fair with neutral undertones; magenta/red hair; hazel/green eyes.
Most loved product of the week: That I own: Sauce Box Mermaid Life Palette. That I didn’t buy: MAC Chromat Collection. I don’t think I’ll be buying any of this collection, but I really like the looks of it.
Most used product of the week: Sauce Box Mermaid Life Palette with the BH Cosmetics Modern Mattes 28 Color Eyeshadow Palette; ABH Glow Kit in Moonchild; bareMinerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel in Opal 01.
Any new beauty discoveries?: Bh Cosmetics added Waterproof Lip Liner Colors since I last bought. They’re my favorite lip liners, so I can’t wait to try them.
