Tarte Rum Punch, Salt Lyfe, Sunkissed Color Splash Hydrating Lipsticks Reviews, Photos, Swatches
Rum Punch
Tarte Rum Punch Rainforest of the Sea Color Splash Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a medium, rosy beige with warmer undertones and a cream finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff that applied evenly across the lips. The formula felt creamy enough to glide on without tugging but wasn’t too thick nor did it slide around on the lips while worn. There was a smidgen of color that pulled into my deeper lip lines, but it wasn’t something I could notice at a normal viewing distance (only in the close-up photos). The lipstick stayed on well for four and a half hours and was moderately moisturizing.
The formula is supposed to be “long-wearing,” “full coverage,” and hydrating. The consistency has an incredibly smooth, creamy feel to it and has enough substance and thickness to it that it adheres well to the lips and usually doesn’t pull into lip lines. I felt like the formula felt slightly more emollient initially and “dried” a bit to more of a satin-to-cream finish after a few minutes (but not a true dry down, as it wasn’t transfer-resistant!). The majority of shades were very pigmented, easy to apply, comfortable to wear with light to moderate hydration over time, and lasted between four and seven hours on me. A few of the lightest and darkest shades weren’t as pigmented or were less flattering on the lips compared to more of the medium shades. There did not seem to be any added fragrance to it (smelled slightly waxy), and I didn’t notice any taste.

Salt Lyfe
Tarte Salt Lyfe Rainforest of the Sea Color Splash Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a muted, medium pinky mauve with neutral undertones and a satin finish. It wasn’t quite as shiny compared to other shades in the range, though it was definitely not matte! The texture was lightweight, creamy without being heavy or too slippery, and was comfortable to apply and to wear. It had great pigmentation that went on evenly and smoothly, which lasted for five hours and felt hydrating over time.

Sunkissed
Tarte Sunkissed Rainforest of the Sea Color Splash Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.12 oz.) is a light-medium, peachy coral with warm undertones and a cream finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that applied evenly across the lips. The consistency was lightweight, creamy without being too wet (so it didn’t slide around), and wore down to a more satin-like finish after two hours of wear. There was a touch of color that gathered in my deeper lip lines, though it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance. This shade wore well for four and a half hours on me and was moderately hydrating.

Salt Lyfe is pretty pink!
It is! 🙂
I’m seeing the pictures for Sunkissed on both Sunkissed and Rum Punch…Or I’m just crazy…It could go either way?
Fixed, so sorry about that! Totally my fault 🙁
Christine, I knew you would be hard on yourself! I’m surrounded by amazing type A personalities, so I’m always weighing if I should say something or not. I always just want to give y’all a hug and some chocolate? No worries at all here, just thankfulness for all that you do! I tried beauty blogging once…Let’s just say I’m not type A and it didn’t go so well… #scatterbrainedforlife
You have to let me know! If you don’t, and nobody else does, there’s a high chance I won’t see it – I am not usually seeing the site on the “front end” as I’m usually behind the blog, editing posts and the like 🙂 Thank you!
I keep picking up Boardwalk and Beachbum but not buying. They are so gorgeous and soft but still I put it down and tell myself I have too much lipstick already. This makeup ban-ish is going good but really hard however I have that 15% off so I am getting some new items today.
With Tarte, they have sales themselves frequently enough that you could also grab them from there (I waited to purchase the Rainforest lipsticks until Tarte had a 30% off sale) that are usually much better than 15%! I think their shipping threshold is higher so that is a bummer if you only have one item to get!
Grabbing Salt Lyfe with the sale. I have a number of the dupes as cool mauves are my most flattering lipstick shades. This one is different enough though being a bit darker than Sake, Dopey, Backtalk and slightly lighter and cooler than MUFE C211.
It’ll fit right in your stash! 🙂
Ah, you had to say that, when I thought I was sufficiently duped by sake and dopey. Well, not quite my love channel, like seeing the infinitesimal differences in Nars dark/brown reds, but now will have to swatch it. This is the only corner of the pink spectrum I can do comfortably. Certainly is pretty. And here, we do live the salt lyfe. Very GPS appropriate!
Ack envious! I’m horrid with the dark brown/reds and I love the look of them so retro chic. Yup wear this corner of pink well too, but can also do rose. One of my current favs is Colorpop in Lumiere (the lippie stix version) .. it’s a mauvey rose.. similar to NARS Anna; perfect day lips for me. Somehow lately I’ve been big on the Lippie Stix finish; quite flat, but not entirely matte and bloody cheap. Their matching lip pencils are probably my favourite because they pair well with any muted toned (and very close to my own lip colour). The only other lipsticks getting high rotation are my muted Bite’s: Mauvember, Thistle, Cava, Gelato, Sake. I’m getting to the point where I feel I look strange when I have more saturated and defined colour on my lips. Saw this one and..adding another one to the fray…
Ahh, Mauvember! The one that got away for me! I also have a lot in the mauve spectrum, just couldn’t lock that one down!
The lipstick gods were with me that day because I cannot begin to tell you how often I have missed out or had my order cancelled on Bite LE’s. They will bring it back..
Also, ColourPop’s Baewatch Lippie Stick is a great mauve!
Have that one too, Lindsay 🙂
Salt Lyfe looks really rich and plush. But it reminds me of my MAC Mehr in its color for some odd reason? Didn’t see Mehr as a dupe, so I guess I’d be safe getting this one sometime this summer!
Haha! Of course I would love Sunkissed! Because I’ve already got 2 of its first several dupes in MAC Reel Sexy and Ravishing, it must be one very appealing shade family for me come late spring and summer! ?
Mehr is more matte, so my guess is the finish ruled it out of my comparisons!
I love the creaminess of these!!!! They look so healthy on your lips!!
They are comfy and pretty flattering on!
Salt Lyfe is my fave! I like Sake too which is on my list of things to buy so I may have to do a comp once my Sephora gets them in.
Great pick, Erin!
I have a TON of dupes for Salt Lyfe but I still want it. It’s the kind of mauve I wear all the time for light makeup days!
I have Sunkissed and like it but not as much as Naked Truth. Your eye look is what I’d like to get. Some of the combos you do don’t even occur to me – you’re an inspiration.
