MAC Jeanius: Overall & Recommendations

MAC Jeanius: Overall & Recommendations

OVERALL, Jeanius is a very cool-toned collection, and surprisingly, it’s not a total miss for warmer skin tones, though. The inclusion of berries like Indigo Pink lipglass and Riveting Rose lipstick are as wearable on cooler skin tones as they are on warmer ones. The eyeshadows are the major let down here, because of the so-so pigmentation and powdery textures. I think the blushes are the best picks from the launch, though Pink Cult is a great pick for light to medium skin tones (darker skin tones won’t see it show up much on them) while Overdyed works on across all.

Temptalia’s Recommendations

must-haves: Pink Cult blush

nice-to-haves: Stovepipe Black eyeshadow, Overdyed blush, Indigo Pink lipglass, Riveting Rose lipstick

skip: Diva in Distress (poor pigmentation, texture)

Check your stash for…

PRETTY, PLEASE (permanent), DOCILE (repromote).

Skip if you have…

  • Skip DIVA IN DISTRESS if you have URBAN DECAY MARY JANE; Urban Decay’s is more pigmented and smoother, though it is bluer (because it is more pigmented).
  • Skip MOTORHEAD if you have DEEP TRUTH; they’re very similar.
  • Skip WHITE JEANIUS if you have WHITE FROST; they’re very similar.
  • Skip BIKER BLUE if you have RESCUE BEAUTY UNDER THE STARS; the texture is a bit different but they are similar.
  • Skip OVERDYED if you have AMAZON PRINCESS; Overdyed is slightly less magenta.
  • Skip PINK CULT if you have BREATH OF PLUM; Breath of Plum is slightly plummier.
  • Skip DOCILE if you have CULTURED; the latter is a little darker/more pigmented.

Recommendations by Skin Tone

Please note that this section is merely suggesting shades that would complement a particular skin tone better than other shades, but these lists are meant to be rather exhaustive of the entire collection; it’s not reflective of must-haves for your skin tone. When it comes to cooler/warmer skin tones, these are products that lean noticeably cool/warm and therefore complement the corresponding skin tone better (but it does not mean you can’t wear a warmer product if you’re cooler!).

  • light skin tones: Motorhead, White Jeanius eyeshadows; Overdyed, Pink Cult blush; Pretty, Please, Riveting Rose lipsticks; Docile, Indigo Pink lipglasses;
  • medium skin tones: Motorhead, Stovepipe Black eyeshadows; Overdyed, Pink Cult blush; Riveting Rose lipstick; Docile, Indigo Pink lipglasses;
  • dark skin tones: Motorhead eyeshadow; Overdyed blush; Riveting Rose lipstick; Indigo Pink lipglass
  • cool undertones: Diva in Distress, Motorhead, Stovepipe Black, White Jeanius eyeshadows; Overdyed, Pink Cult blush; Pretty, Please, Riveting Rose lipsticks; Docile, Indigo Pink lipglasses
  • warm undertones: Motorhead, Stovepipe Black eyeshadows; Overdyed, Pink Cult blush; Riveting Rose lipstick; Painted On lipglass
  • universally flattering shades: Motorhead, Stovepipe Black eyeshadows; Biker Blue, Frayed to Order Nail Lacquers; Overdyed blush; Riveting Rose lipstick; Indigo Pink lipglass;

Pink Cult Blush reminds me of Benefit’s Dandelion. Nothing in this collection for me. Thanks for all your hard work despite your heavy school load.

For what it’s worth, I have both and they’re not really similar. Dandelion is much lighter, pinker and sheerer – the kind of thing you can use all over to brighten your face. Pink Cult is deceptively pigmented, a neutral pink with a hint of mauve and not a lot of shimmer. It’s a lot nicer than I was expecting!

So far there hasn’t been much from MAC recently – or in the future that I’ve seen – That I am/have been super excited about. I’m skipping this entire collection :/ Which is STRANGE for me! I feel like I don’t know what to do with myself! Haha!

It’s a welcome pause – I know that in a couple months I’ll be scrambling to pay the mortgage AND buy everything from a collection again 😉 So in the meantime – It’s a nice breather… I ain’t complainin’

Hopefully this doesn’t mean that I’ve finally done it… That I actually have TOO MUCH MAKEUP and there’s nothing left to buy!

Oh! The thought of that! I’m going to need a drink…

i think maybe this is the worst collection in a while, i was going to just get the pink cult blush but i think now i wont even bother with that as its not amazing to me.x

Hi Christine:) !!!! I have a question about overdyed blush. Is it very buildable?? I’m nw25 and am LOVING that color, but I dont know if it would be too harsh. Thankyouuuu!!!

I’m personally disappointed in this collection. I was very interested in Diva in Distress and the white nail polish but the texture and appearance of both seems awful.
Pink Cult looks good but I already have NYX Angel and they appear to be really similiar (and it probably wouldn’t show up on me real well, either).

How does “Overdyed blush” compare against “Her Blooming Cheek blush” from the Tartan Tale collection? Would I be buying a dupe?

Also, can you tell me how “Pink Cult blush” would compare against “Darkly My Dear blush” from the Disney Venomous Villains collection? Would I be buying a dupe or are they even similar in your thought/opinion?

I do find this collection pretty, but will try to keep my head cool and pick only one or two products I will actually wear…if I get an eyeshadow, I will not want to use it to do not spoil the pattern! I have a feeling there are much nicer collections to come in the future, so I’d rather wait for something more extraordinary!

So, I have a totally unrelated question. I’m an NW15, so I have cool undertones, right? So should I wear cool toned products or warm toned products to make my skin look good? (I mean other than foundation, concealer etc . . . )

I bought Pink Cult, Indigo Pink, Riveting Rose and Stovepipe Black, and I already have Docile and Pretty Please 🙂 I wore the blush and the new lip products today and I’m very pleased with them all. Haven’t tried the eyeshadow yet though. Thanks so much for the swatches – as usual they were invaluable in helping me decide what to buy!
