MAC Frayed to Order Nail Lacquer
MAC Jeanius: Frayed to Order
MAC Frayed to Order Nail Lacquer ($14.00 for 0.40 fl. oz.) is described as a “white matte with soft pink duochrome pearl” and has a matte finish. As hard as I try to only provide accurate photos, Frayed to Order was a tough shade to capture. The photos are definitely accurate in terms of color and all that, but they really miss the way the duochrome sheen plays with light. It is a semi-sheer pale white with pink iridescent sheen strewn through it. If you have Vanilla pigment, Frayed to Order is just like that, but in a matte polish form.
It dries down as fast as any matte does, but it does show brush strokes quite easily, so you’ll want to do wider strokes and one pass, rather than multiple ones, if you can help it. I did three coats for swatches, to see if it would go opaque, but as you’ll see, it never quite gets there. The formula was a little thinner than medium but not watery at all.

final thoughts: If it applied a little smoother, I could give it a better quality score. As I mentioned in the Biker Blue review, MAC’s nail polish prices are coming far too close to high-end brands, while many of MAC’s other products have not. For me, the “cool” factor of this polish is enough for me to want it, even if it does have streaking problems.

This polish is so dupe-able..pass.
This is a disappointment, I thought it would look like Reflects Transparent Pink or partylicious.
It reminds me a lot Chanel Intermezzo, but that one has shine to it, and Mac is matte!
Not something for me, but I think it is pretty.
Great swatches, not sure if I will end up getting it. I was so looking forward to this collections polishes and I am feeling a little let down by MAC. Thanks for such a great review!
I have this Inglot polish that’s impossible to photograph accurately. It’s sheer pink with green pearl.
Had high hopes for this one, but gonna have to pass 🙁
So..it’s 14$ for almost-see through white nailpolish that kinda looks like “white-out correction fluid” ?
Tho your nails look really good C! (esp in the Biker Blue swatch!)
It doesn’t look like white out at all… White out is a very stark white – this isn’t like that at all.
I’ll probably pick this one up, but i definitely expected more.
I know it’s not the same but I’ll be skipping this and be happy with my Manglaze Mayonnaise
How does this compare to Essie’s Kisses & Bises?
I don’t own that, sorry!
Identical to Rainbow by China Glaze.
I would buy it if it was sheerer and doesn’t streak ¬¬
But I have to say that the color is really beautiful!
The nail polishes are actually the only thing I really liked in this collection. I will probably pick both of them up.
Pass. Though it is very cool I want my polished opaque dang it!
pretty but ill pass. and not only because i dont buy nailpolish from mac
I think for this price I’d just go ahead and get two better quality nail polishes from Zoya.
How does this compare to Chanel’s Pearl Drop? Is PD more yellow-toned?
I wouldn’t say they’re comparable – Pearl Drop is all white gold, no pink at all.

I’ll go nuts and just say I actually really like this color. Reminds me of an opal. From some angles it’s just eh, but you have to catch the light juuuust right… Anyway I would think about getting this one if it’s still available next time I pass a MAC counter.
Looks like a matte-fied version of Sally Hansen’s Angel Wings. Love duochrome anything, but after remarkably bad luck with a Zoya matte, I don’t think I’ll ever get another matte polish. I have bad luck with chipping as it is. :/
How does this compare to Rainbow by China Glaze?
I don’t have that shade, sorry!
Good dupe…
Sally Hanson 150 angle wings with essie matte about you as a top coat for a matte finish.
Any clear matte top coat would do the trick tho. The duochrome is very pretty under the matte.
Perfect dupe for Frayed to Order would be a white nail polish with China Glaze’s Rainbow on top! =)
One of the best nail polishes I’ve tried in a while! Perfect white color, gorgeous pink reflects and stays on for good 8 days. Very impressed!
