NARS Bettina Velvet Matte Lip Pencil ($27.00 for 0.08 oz.) is soft, medium-dark rosy mauve with subtle, warm undertones and a pearl “matte” finish. It had the flat, shine-free look of a true matte finish but definitely had shimmer. It had medium coverage, which was somewhat buildable, that applied without tugging or dragging on the lips. The texture felt thinner and a bit clingy on my lips, and I found the formula somewhat drying over the four hours it lasted.
The formula is supposed to be “long-lasting” with “rich” and “seamless color.” The texture has a more velvety feel: smooth, thinner but glides on easily, and doesn’t have a lot of wetness/creaminess. The pigmentation varied from shade to shade with most shades having semi-opaque coverage. They were easy to apply along the lips and comfortable to apply, as they did not tug. The formula lasted anywhere from three hours to six hours, and some shades were somewhat drying and others were non-drying.

Intriguing
NARS Intriguing Velvet Matte Lip Pencil ($27.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a dark pink with warm undertones and a satin finish. There was very fine pearl that was almost undetectable at a normal viewing distance. It had semi-opaque color payoff that applied evenly and went on smoothly without tugging on my lips as the texture was velvety. It did feel clingier and was a thinner formula, which helped it wear longer–five hours–but was just a touch drying overall.

NARS Walkyrie Velvet Matte Lip Pencil ($27.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a dark, reddish plum with strong, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that applied evenly and smoothly across the lips. The pencil felt smooth, velvety, and did not drag on the lips as it went on, even though it had a shine-free finish. It wore well for almost six hours on me and was non-drying.

Interested in trying out Walkyrie. I’m on the fence about this formula; I find the texture really dry and unforgiving on the lips, but it also lasts longer on me than any other lipstick I’ve tried with no transfer or messiness when eating or whatever.
The brightness of the one I have, Dragon Girl stops the dryness of the texture being noticeable, but I’m not sure how a more understated colour would work.
I find the lighter shades to be more unforgiving on me, but some of the deeper ones are better. The ones with some shimmer seem more drying to me as well 🙁 I feel like Dragon Girl has gotten a little smoother over time, though.
Do these have any scent? The scent of the regular NARS pencils (or the ones I have had) really overwhelmed me.

Thanks for describing Walkyrie as a warm reddish plum. Nars calls it a burnt coral red, now, and formerly called it a dusty coral. Respectfully disagree with Nars. Somehow, that always bugged me, and led me to a thorough mistrust of their shade descriptions. You can always count on Temptalia for correct shade descriptions; the brands, not so much. Nevertheless, a great shade; think I’ll wear it to night job today.

I already bought Red Square and Do Me Baby from this line recently, and now I really want Walkyrie and kinda want Intriguing too!
How do you like the two you purchased, Isa?
I really like them, especially Red Square, which is a colour that is unique in my collection. The only quibble I have is that I wish these were twist up pencils instead, especially at Nar’s price point.
Twist-up would make them easier to work with for sure!
