MAC Tartan Tale: Dazzle the Lads Lip Bag

Each year, MAC puts out a couple of lip products in specially designed/packaged bags, and this year is no different. The Dazzle the Lads Lip Bag ($36.00) includes Moth to Flame (sheer neutral beige; dazzleglass), Baron’s Rose (medium rose; lipstick), and Draw Me Close (dusty rose; lip pencil).

Both the lipstick and dazzleglass are full-sized, while the lip pencil is miniaturized (about half the size of regular lip pencils). The dazzleglass is permanent, while the other two are new and limited edition to this set. The lip products come with a tartan patterned bag that’s a little larger than my hand. It’ll certainly hold all of the products it comes with, along with a few more. The bag is the same for both lip sets.

  • Moth to Flame is a sheer peach with white shimmer. On my lips, it just brightens my natural lip color and adds glossiness. It’s part of the permanent line-up of dazzleglasses. As pretty as dazzleglasses are when worn, their quantity/price ratio really leaves something to be desired.
  • Baron’s Rose is a semi-sheer reddened berry with strong gold shimmer and sheen. It is a cremesheen finish lipstick. It’s extremely similar to Fun Bathing (from To the Beach) — Baron’s Rose is slightly redder/darker, but they are very, very close. It’s a lovely color, though.
  • Draw Me Close is a browned pink. It’d be great to use as a neutral lip liner.

Value-wise, the Lip Bag is okay but it’s not a showstopping deal. You’re getting a full-sized lipstick ($14.50), full-sized dazzleglass ($18.00), and a half-sized lip pencil ($7.00), which is a total value of $39.50. If you include the bag, then you’ll feel like you’re getting a bit more for your money.

  • Product: 26/30
  • Value: 8/10
  • Ease of Use: 4/5
  • Packaging: 4/5

RECOMMENDATION: It’s a real shame that Baron’s Rose has several similar pre-existing shades, because it’s a gorgeous shade. Festive but still perfect for autumn!

ah I thought the same, I dont use lip pencils and the dazzleglass seemed to me an unnecessary color(if you can even tell it has a color pay off) as if its not sold in store so why not to put it into a holiday bag to sell it kinda idea. :/ I really liked the baron’s rose though, lets see how much I can spare for the collection.

I own Thrills Lipstick and Drive me Wild Lipstick from previous collections. I was wondering how this lipstick compared. I know I want the Dazzleglass but I thought If the lipstick is very similar to the other 2 I would save myself a bit of money and just get the dazzleglass from the permenant line

Hi Jo,

It resembles Fun Bathing, not Thrills or Drive Me Wild — it doesn’t have coral in it. The two you’re asking about are a lot more orange/coral based.

Same! Would love to have Baron’s Rose, but don’t care for the other items so doesn’t feel worth it to buy this kit. I’ll just have to look for a dupe, or hope for a re-release later on.

Thanks for reviewing these! Since these are in a collection, do you think they would work together? Someone on another blog made a comment that the lip color is more cool while the lip pencil is more warm and therefore, the pairing is off. Would all these colors blend together or be discordant?

Thanks!

Wow, Baron’s Rose is gorgeous! I already have funbathing though, and the pencil and dazzleglass don’t really excite me, so I will pass on this.

Danielle Avatar

hi christine! do you think with these lip bag sets you can take a picture of what the combination of the 3 look like together on you? Like with the lip liner, then lipstick and dazzlegloss on top?

Marcela Avatar

wow that lipstick is GORGEOUS! but i don’t want to drop $36 just for the lipstick. I wonder if i can find a close shade in their permanent lipstick line…

Dusty Avatar

Damn! You scr*wed me out of a cute bag! LOL! That IS similar to Fun Bathing isn’t it? It’s very very pretty though! I still love it but I already have Fun Bathing (and actually haven’t even opened it yet LOL!) and I’m not sure if I want to spend the bucks just for a cute bag.

Then again, since I haven’t actually opened Fun Bathing yet… Maybe I’ll get this anyway??? Hmm… (don’t tell Jay!) LOL!

This is the one lip bag I wanted. I don’t have Moth to Flame, but it’s always been on my list, I love Cremesheens, and the lip pencil is so pretty. I also love the gold print on the products and the adorable bag. Baron’s Rose does look similar to Funbathing, but Funbathing looks a little more bronze or plummy to me. I feel like Baron’s Rose is almost a cross between Funbathing and Thrills. Thanks for these fun reviews!

Ooh, Baron’s Rose would make a lovely Christmas-time lipstick 🙂 however I don’t think I’d get much use out of the other products. I do adore the bag, though.

Lucie Avatar

Oooooohhh, Baron’s Rose is glorious! I might have to get this set just for the lipstick and pencil, and give some one else the boring dazzleglass.

Molly Avatar

I love this set 10x’s more than the other once since you said that Naked would be a good dupe for that lipstick. I unfortuantly have Naked. It’s a shame since I really do think the other set is better as a whole. Baron’s Rose lipstick looks killer! Especially with the gold.

I like everything exept the dazzleglass but Baron Rose is the main item I want. For 43,50 CAN$… I’ll pass on this one (unless I got to the USA, then it would be cheaper)
