Urban Decay XX Vintage Eyeshadows Reviews, Photos, Swatches (Part 1)
Urban Decay Roadstripe Eyeshadow
Urban Decay Roadstripe Eyeshadow ($19.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as an “iridescent white with blue-violet shift.” It’s a cool white with an iridescent sheen that shifts from blue to cool purple. The texture was soft, lightly dusty, a little thinner than the average Urban Decay eyeshadow, but it didn’t sheer out too much when applied to bare skin. It is a shade that benefits greatly from a primer, though, as it becomes more buildable and sits better on the skin. Alone, the color lasted for seven hours before fading. Marc Jacobs Beauty About Last Night No. 10 (LE, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). Urban Decay White Walker (LE, $19.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). Sugarpill Ice Angel (PiP, $13.00) is cooler (95% similar). Smashbox Cosmic (LE, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). Too Faced Le Marais (LE, $16.00) is darker, more muted, warmer (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Ripe Plum (Left) (LE, ) is less shimmery, warmer (95% similar). ColourPop Hope (LE, $6.00) is darker, more muted, warmer (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Crushed Indigo (Left) (LE, ) is less shimmery, darker, more muted (90% similar). NARS Cassiopeia (P, $29.00) is warmer (90% similar). Makeup Geek Sugar Rush (P, $12.00) is more shimmery, cooler (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Cobalt Rush #1 (P, ) is less shimmery (90% similar). Urban Decay Pallor Eyeshadow ($19.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “frosted lavender with gray shift.” It’s a muted, grayish lavender with more neutral undertones and a soft sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation paired with a thinner, lightly dusty consistency that sheered out very easily on the lid, so it was hard to get true-to-pan coverage and intensity without a good base underneath. I noticed fading after seven hours with this shade. LORAC Silvermist (LE, $19.00) is warmer (90% similar). Natasha Denona Lavender/Gold and Silver (3) (P, $28.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). BH Cosmetics Foil Eyes #2 (PiP, ) is more shimmery, brighter (90% similar). Giorgio Armani Rose Platinum (16) (LE, $39.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay Shag (LE, $19.00) is lighter (90% similar). Stila Frosted Lavender (LE, $18.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). Chanel Oiseaux de Nuit #2 (LE, ) is darker, warmer (90% similar). LORAC Fairytale (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery, warmer (90% similar). Glaminatrix Peri-twinkle (P, $8.04) is more shimmery, warmer (85% similar). MAC Girls, Girls! (LE, $22.00) is more shimmery, warmer (85% similar). Anastasia Spectra (PiP, ) is more shimmery (90% similar). ColourPop Express (LE, $4.50) is darker, warmer (85% similar). MAC Fresh Ice (LE, $21.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Anastasia Touch of Lilac (P, $12.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). MAC Dynamic Duo 2 #1 (LE, $17.00) is lighter, brighter (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Urban Decay UV-B Eyeshadow ($19.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “vibrant blue with violet shift.” It’s a medium, bluish-purple with cool undertones and a soft, frosted finish. It had a dustier, slightly thin texture that was prone to sheering out, so it would be better applied over a lightly tacky base (I think something stronger than Urban Decay’s own Primer Potion, personally, is needed). It had semi-opaque coverage, and it was hard to blend out evenly, as it tended to stick more in some places than others after initial application. On me, it wore well for seven and a half hours before fading. Makeup Geek Chit Chat (DC, $6.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Disney by Sephora Mystical Wonder (LE, ) is darker (80% similar). MAC Blue Orbit (LE, $20.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). MAC Parfait Amour (DC, $17.00) is less shimmery, darker, warmer (85% similar). Giorgio Armani #19 (P, $32.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Anastasia D2 (Norvina Vol. 1) (LE, ) is less shimmery, lighter (85% similar). Urban Decay Beat Down (LE, $19.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). Sephora Indigo (PiP, ) is darker, warmer (80% similar). MAC Ascent of Glamour (LE, $22.00) is more shimmery, darker (80% similar). Sugarpill Weekender (P, $13.00) is more shimmery, darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
Urban Decay Frostbite Eyeshadow ($19.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “frosted deep blue with multicolored micro-shimmer.” It’s a blackened navy blue with a purplish edge paired with multi-colored sparkle. The sparkle doesn’t seem to be as large as Urban Decay’s micro-glitter, but it is noticeable and looser from the base, so I get some fall out during initial application and very minor additional fall out over time. The texture was on the drier side, but it was workable and applied best for me when I patted it onto the lid and used a feathery brush to blend just the edges out. The base color wore well for eight hours before creasing on me. Sephora Astral Blue (383) (P, $9.00) is warmer (95% similar). Lisa Eldridge Swansong (P, $16.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Sydney Grace Absolute Zero (LE, $6.25) is more shimmery (95% similar). MAC Naval Blue (P, $21.00) is lighter (95% similar). ColourPop Illusional (LE, $6.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Tempete Bleu (LE, $36.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). MAC Blue Storm (LE, $21.00) is less shimmery, darker (90% similar). Lethal Cosmetics Stargaze (P, $6.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Tom Ford Beauty Cobalt Rush #2 (P, ) is lighter (90% similar). NABLA Cosmetics Baltic (P, $8.00) is less shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Chanel Apparition (LE, $32.00) is lighter, more muted (90% similar). NARS Sprung (DC, $25.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Technoir (DC, $14.00) is lighter (85% similar). Clionadh Necromancer (P, $5.25) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). Pat McGrath Interstellar (LE, $25.00)(85% similar). Sydney Grace Let's Cuddle (LE, $6.25) is darker (85% similar). Victoria Beckham Beauty Midnight (P, $36.00) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer (85% similar). theBalm Pipeline (LE, $16.00) is lighter (85% similar). ColourPop Sorry for Partyin' (LE, ) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer (85% similar). Dose of Colors A Moment (LE, ) is more shimmery, lighter, warmer (85% similar). Top 20 dupes listed, see the rest. Urban Decay Plague Eyeshadow ($19.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “deep red-purple with blue shift.” It’s a medium-dark purple with warm, reddish undertones with a very strong, bluish-violet shimmer that gives it a cooler tone overall. The texture was smooth, lightly creamy, and easy to work with on bare skin, as it was very pigmented and blendable. The color started to crease after eight hours on me. Fyrinnae Because Cats (P, $6.75) is more shimmery, darker, more muted (95% similar). Too Faced Villain (LE, $16.00) is lighter (95% similar). Pat McGrath Interstellar (LE, $25.00) is lighter, cooler (85% similar). Sydney Grace Forget-Her-Not (PiP, $6.25) is less shimmery, darker, cooler (85% similar). Too Faced Sugared Violet #2 (LE, $16.00) is more muted (85% similar). Pat McGrath Violet Void (LE, $25.00) is more shimmery, brighter, warmer (85% similar). Sydney Grace Beauregarde (P, $15.00) is more shimmery, darker (85% similar). Too Faced Sugared Violet (LE, $16.00) is more muted, warmer (85% similar). Urban Decay Vapor Eyeshadow ($19.00 for 0.05 oz.) is described as a “pale pearlescent silver.” It’s a bright, silvery-white with neutral-to-cool undertones and a frosted finish. It had good pigmentation with a soft, blendable texture that wasn’t too soft or too firm in the pan, so I didn’t have any excess product kicked up in the pan but still found the color easy to apply to bare skin. This shade wore well for eight hours before creasing. Make Up For Ever D124 Crystalline White (DC, $21.00) is brighter (95% similar). MAC Ebony Blend #1 (LE, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). Guerlain Cygne Blanc #2 (LE, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). Dior Lune (001) (P, $31.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Moira Starlight (P, $7.50) is warmer (95% similar). Formula Overview
Urban Decay Eyeshadow ($19.00 for 0.05 oz.) is powder eyeshadow that is supposed to be long-wearing, richly pigmented, and blendable. In general, the performance varies from decent to exceptional with their satin, shimmer, and duotone finishes performing better on average, while the matte and sparkle finishes can vary. The wear ranges from six to nine hours (without primer) and longer with most primers. The one finish that you’ll want to take note of is sparkle, which often has micro-glitter that doesn’t bind as well with the base, so there can be fall out. The texture of Urban Decay eyeshadows is softer, less firmly pressed, so some shades have some excess powder kicked up in the pan but are often very blendable on the skin. Their permanent shade range tends to be higher-performing than some of the shades found in limited edition palettes as well.

Yeah, I thought the initial swatches looked like a mixed bag, and I was right. Really disappointed, as I think UD could’ve done much better with those C rated shades. And strange how they have 3 white/light silver shades here, think they can end up looking similar on lids. But Plague is really pretty. And your eye look is stunning, have been admiring it for days!
The XX Vintage shades they chose to release don’t seem to have any rhyme or reason in terms of the colors/undertones to me – I get that they are all past releases – but other than that, they don’t tie together as well. I kept looking at the lipsticks, eyeshadows, and polishes, and all of them together looks disjointed. That’s not really a criticism, but it sure made for an interesting time putting together looks, haha!
Roadstripe is such the quintessential millennium eyeshadow! I was in college in the late 90’s-early 2000’s and it was ALL about white iridescent eyeshadow and liner! What a throwback, lol!
Haha! 😉
The eye look you created with these is gorgeous, Christine! Very dreamy.
Thank you!
Bangin’ hot eye look you got goin’ on here with these! ?
Okeee, so I know I need Frostbite and Plague, but already have plenty of Roadstripe left in my Vice LTD, plus I’m thinking that MAC Crystal (DC) would be a good sub for Pallor(?). As for UV-B, I’m wondering if Dive Bar could sub?
Thanks, Nancy! 🙂
I think, in terms of recreating the look, Dive Bar works 🙂 Just a cooler, brighter blue – something that isn’t as dark as Frostbite would do!
Yeah the swatches of UV-B made me sad but I’m glad Dive Bar is a dupe.
When I first saw the swatches of UV-B, my first thought was that it looked like a weakly pigmented, watered down version of Dive Bar, which I have!
Beautiful eye look, it’s too bad they all didn’t perform great!
Thank you, Ashley!
You might not have been impressed with the formula but I actually gasped when I saw the eye look. So gorgeous on.
Thanks!
And yet another terrific look you’ve created. I couldn’t imagine what to do with those choices of colors. You continue to amaze me.
You’re very kind, Susan! Thank you!!
Just the truth. Very creative.
Your incredible eye look makes me wants ALLLLLL those shadows!!!! But, I’m just going to get plague and dupe the rest. Christine would you say the quality of the repeats from the vice reloaded palette (uv-b and roadstripe are it I think?) is better or the same as the singles? I have them in the palette and expected these singles to be much better but it doesn’t seem like they are!
I think that they are better here – the press seemed firmer, overall, to me. Not by a TON just by a bit 🙂
There is a few nice shades here, Frostbite for example, but nothing really unique and the ratings are so so for some of them. Hmmmm…
Yep, the ratings are all over the place 🙁
My thoughts and pick too Genevieve. Frostbite is lovely. The formula however …shrug.. fallout city for me.
Plague is just gorgeous! I think Roadstripe has the potential to be a nice face highlighter.
Roadstripe IS pretty on the face! 🙂
Your eye look!!!! <3
Plague is a stunner.
Thank you!
I am not particularly excited about any of these shades. Plague is the prettiest but your eye look is stunning!
Thanks, Agata!
Plague looks really good. I do like the white-is ones as well, but I do have that kind of eyeshadows already. It’s a pity the range isn’t better as a whole. Plague is on my wishlist, I don’t have any dupes for it as far as I can remember.
Lovely look as always, the blueish colours really play brown eyes up, gorgeous.
Thanks so much, Helene!
I wish these were better on the whole!
I totally hear ya!
Well, I guess I don’t need Roadstripe since I just got the Anastasia Moon Child palette…! I was really hoping UV-B would be a dupe for Ransom, because that’s my fave nostalgia shade, but sadly not so, and the formula looks pretty disappointing! I totally get the ‘it sticks in some places more than others’ thing, I’ve noticed that a lot with UD’s more duochrome shades lately and it’s such a pain to work with (Fast-Ball in my Vice 4 does that).
I find any of the dustier eyeshadow formulas to apply in some areas but then skip/look patchy in others 🙁
is Roadstripe or Pallor similar to any of the two shades from the duo in Aura (from the OZ palette)? If I have Aura would it be worth it to get Roadstripe or Pallor?
Roadstripe would be closest!
another possible duplicate for vapor is Polyester Bride by Urban Decay. I’ve tried them next to each other and have a hard time telling them apart. Only thing is that Polyester Bride may have gone on more opaque but that could just be the way I applied one over the other.
They really just couldn’t make another palette with all of these colours ? I like all of these colours but $22 for a shadow is really pricy I don’t care how well they perform . would be nice if they just sold the pan , without the packaging for a lot less .
