NARS Consuming Red Velvet Matte Lip Pencil

NARS Consuming Red Velvet Matte Lip Pencil ($26.00 for 0.086 oz.) is a deep red with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had very nearly opaque color coverage that applied with smooth, even color. The pencil felt smooth and velvety along the lips, and it was easy to maneuver around the edge of the lips as well as to fill in the color. The texture is thin, and if my lips are at all dry or flaky, I find the formula can highlight those imperfections noticeably, but if you exfoliate prior to applying, it should look much smoother. The color wore well for six hours, but it was somewhat drying after four and a half hours. MAC Viva Glam I (P, $19.00) is glossier (90% similar). Tarte Vibin' (P, $20.00) is lighter, warmer (95% similar). Anastasia Currant (P, $20.00) is lighter, cooler (90% similar). NARS Amsterdam (P, $28.00) is glossier (90% similar). NARS 413 BLKR (DC, $28.00) is glossier (90% similar). ColourPop Avenue (DC, $6.50) is less glossy (90% similar). NARS Infatuated Red (P, $27.00) is brighter, cooler (90% similar). MAC Deeply Adored (LE, $19.00) is lighter, brighter, glossier (80% similar). Make Up For Ever M402 (DC, $22.00) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). NARS Rouge Indiscret (LE, $28.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). KVD Beauty Nahz Fur Atoo (P, $19.00) is darker, glossier (85% similar). NARS Just Push Play (P, $26.00) is lighter, brighter, warmer (85% similar). KVD Beauty Nosferatu (P, $20.00) is lighter, warmer (80% similar). MAC Studded Kiss (P, $19.00) is warmer, glossier (80% similar). MAC Kiss Me Quick (P, $19.50) is lighter, brighter (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

NARS Infatuated Red Velvet Matte Lip Pencil ($26.00 for 0.086 oz.) is a medium-dark red with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage with a smooth, velvety consistency that glided on easily and didn’t tug on the lips. The texture is thin, so it feels clingier on the lips than some formulas, but it didn’t feel tight or drying initially. The color wore for six hours, and at the four-hour mark, it felt a bit drying. KVD Beauty Nosferatu (P, $20.00) is warmer, less glossy (90% similar). NARS Rouge Indiscret (LE, $28.00) is lighter (95% similar). ColourPop Avenue (DC, $6.50) is cooler, less glossy (90% similar). NARS Vain (P, $26.00) is glossier (90% similar). MAC Viva Glam I (P, $19.00) is glossier (95% similar). Chanel Rouge Irregulier (87) (P, $45.00) is darker, brighter, glossier (90% similar). Maybelline Cruel Ruby (P, $7.49) is cooler (95% similar). Make Up For Ever M402 (DC, $22.00) is lighter (90% similar). ColourPop Goldie (P, $6.00) is cooler (90% similar). NARS Just Push Play (P, $26.00) is brighter (90% similar). Milani I Am Motivated (P, $6.99) is darker, warmer (90% similar). YSL Conflicting Crimson (27) (P, $39.00) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Lisa Eldridge Velvet Jazz (LE, $36.00) is darker (90% similar). Tarte Vibin' (P, $20.00) is lighter (95% similar). Besame Cherry Red 1935 (PiP, $22.00) is glossier (95% similar). Haha, those look really, really similar to me! Do you think they might pull different colors on other skintones and undertones? Or are they just that similar? 🙂

I thought the same thing Christine.Especially since I feel Nars has so many reds already. At least do 1 red and one of some other color!!

I love these Nars lip pencils. They’re very versatile. They’re great for layering and making another shade a bit darker, or as a base and applying a lighter shade. These two colors look a bit dry, but I never wear my matte ones solo. I always combine them with something. They add depth and longevity to any other lippies.

Yeah. Back on my street. But it seems those streets are Lincoln street and Lincoln avenue. Kind of too close for comfort, as C noted. Idk why any collection would release 90% dupes in the same collection with the same formula. Most Y chromes would not see the difference at all, unless they were artists/MUAs. Given that Nars is trying to sell product, idk why they would do this: most people would only choose one. This is a tough no buy for me, even with ~3 dupes. Often wondered how I have not gotten Amsterdam. Must appeal to my inner behavioral rigidity: if you like it, buy it in every iteration. Btw, 413 bleeker is a Nars online exclusive, rather than LE.

Hey! I was wondering how buildable the color is. I’m not used to wearing such opaque reds – I usually blot the lipstick if I feel it’s the color is too strong – so I wanted to know if it is possible to reduce the intensity the color(hopefully this makes sense ahah) especially since the formula of these lip pencils is a little dry and probably doesn’t release color just by patting it on the lips, like a normal lipstick would do.
Anyhow, thanks for the great review, as always 🙂
