Too Faced Child Star Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick
Too Faced Child Star Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.23 fl. oz.) is described as a “matte true nude.” It’s a light, peachy-beige with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had didn’t fully dry down, though it wasn’t wet–it had a lightly tacky texture that didn’t lift color if I pressed lips together. It had good coverage, but the color really separated and pulled away from itself leaving behind “cracks.” This shade faded unevenly and was somewhat flaky towards the end of wear (four hours). The formula was drying. ColourPop Midi (DC, $6.50) is darker, cooler (90% similar). Makeup Geek Do-si-do (LE, $12.00) is lighter, warmer (90% similar). Maybelline Beige Babe (P, $7.99) is brighter, warmer, glossier (90% similar). MAC Blankety (P, $19.00) is less shimmery, cooler, glossier (90% similar). KVD Beauty Noble (P, $20.00) is darker, warmer (80% similar). Sephora Love Love (07) (P, $8.00) is lighter, glossier (85% similar). KVD Beauty Noble (DC, $21.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). MAC LarLarLee (LE, $19.00) is glossier (95% similar). MAC Promise Me (P, $20.00) is lighter (90% similar). MAC Act Natural (P, $19.00) is lighter, warmer (85% similar). KVD Beauty Agatha (DC, $21.00) is lighter (85% similar). Too Faced Sugar Cookie (LE, $21.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Urban Decay Safe Word (DC, $18.00) is darker, glossier (85% similar). Too Faced When In Doubt (P, $22.00) is darker, warmer (85% similar). ColourPop Vice (LE, $6.50) is lighter, brighter (85% similar). Milani Adore (LE, $8.99) is darker, warmer (80% similar). Too Faced Cool Girl Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.23 fl. oz.) is described as a “matte soft nude.” It’s a muted, light-medium taupe with rosy tones and a mostly matte finish. It had good color payoff, though it wasn’t fully opaque. The texture applied evenly, while the color pulled apart when it dried down making the lips appeared “cracked,” which is something that becomes more noticeable as time goes on. It was lightweight and didn’t feel overly clingy, but I still found it drying at the end of the four and a half hours it lasted. KVD Beauty Bow 'n' Arrow (P, $20.00) is darker, warmer (90% similar). Shiseido Rose Syrup (BR721) (DC, $28.00) is darker (85% similar). ColourPop Beeper (DC, $6.50) is darker (85% similar). Tarte Texas Toast (LE, $20.00) is darker, cooler (85% similar). MAC Velvet Teddy (P, $19.00) is darker, warmer, glossier (85% similar). Fenty Beauty I Quit (P, $18.00) is darker (80% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.
FORMULA OVERVIEW | Too Faced Melted Matte Liquid Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.23 fl. oz.) is supposed to apply l ike a gloss but dry to “an ultra-matte, opaque finish” that is “never dry, shriveled, or cracked” that should “last for hours.” Most of the shades are unforgiving once they dry down and emphasize lip lines, look “cracked” if you smile, though they feel lighter-weight than they look. It’s one of the more unflattering liquid lipsticks I have tried as many shades highlighted lip lines, and while the lipstick itself wasn’t extremely clingy, there was a dryness present there that, at times, made my lips tingle/ache. For me, the wear was between four and six hours, as a lot of the shades faded unevenly and were faster to breakdown than the average liquid lipstick. The formula is thin, more water-like (reminded me of ColourPop’s formula but sometimes thinner) with a fairly quick dry-down time.

The close-ups look so dry and uncomfortable 🙁
These are definitely not my fave!
I love Cool Girl on you but it looks kind of dry! I want that color in another form so I am going to try the dupes you mentioned
Fingers crossed one of the dupes works for you!
Cool Girl looks like a nice nude, too bad about the formula
I so wish this formula had turned out better overall!
Cool girl actually looks pretty nice! Its the only on so far that speaks to me… and thankfully doesn’t have a ridiculous name..
Phew 🙂
Wow… They really need to recall these and reformulate them so that they don’t crack once one smiles, and also make them way less drying, too!
Cool Girl reminds me enough of my MAC Spirit lipstick that I don’t feel like I would need this one anyhow. And Child Star is just all-around BAAAD!!! As in crack-addict bad! ?
lol!
I love your eyeshadow, what are you wearing? 🙂

Pretty colors for many. Much too chalky for me Can we reach a compromise?
Shakespearean lipstick. Pretty colors with tradgic flaws. To bad bc they really looked good on you after initial application. Crackly and flaking, not so good.
Have to say, I love the makeup you’ve worn during past few reviews. Looks great
I wonder if it’s these particular colors that you found to be drying. I bought Queen B (mauve) and Unicorn (bright purple) and love them both! I did not find these to be drying AT ALL. They lasted through my entire morning (teaching, so you know I was talking a lot), when I usually do a little touch-up of whatever lipstick I’m wearing-didn’t need to. Then I checked my lipstick again after lunch and it was basically still on almost 100%. They also are not crumbly and you CAN layer if you want. I think this formula is FAR superior to Kat Von D’s lipsticks (which are pretty darn good, don’t get me wrong). Want more colors, but every single shade is sold out at Sephora. Waiting for restocks! I didn’t think I would like these lipsticks as much as I do. Becoming quite the fan of Too Faced! 🙂
I’m disappointed these are doing so poorly, I keep hoping for that magic matte that doesn’t emphasize lines. I may have to stick with the Mac matte lipsticks. Also your formula overview perfectly described the Colourpop Ultra matte experience for me, with the exception of wear time. 😀
I like the color of Cool Girl. I’m not a fan of the dry texture.
Cool Girl is such a pretty color! I already know the formula agrees with me at least with the blue one and the bright pink one 1998(the year I was born! Recently my birthday gift!) as much as Kat Von D and the like(I still don’t much like Anastasia or LA Girl). I would try it just for the color, especially with a gray/taupe lip liner. Ugh SO PRETTY! It’s such a shame it causes you and others so much distress, your poor lips!
They make your lips look parched as the Sahara Desert! Ugh! I wonder how these types of ultra matte liquid lipsticks work with a gloss on top. Does it break them down, or can you enhance a shade you really like, and also still keep it long wearing?
So glad I read this review before purchasing. I love nudes but hate emphasized lip lines. Definitely a pass.
Happy to help, Anna!
