MAC Gem of Roses Lipstick
MAC Semi-Precious Lipstick Swatches, Photos, Reviews
MAC Semi-Precious Lipstick ($14.50 for 0.10 oz.) includes four limited edition shades: Gem of Roses (mid-tone strawberry pink), Lush Amber (light nude beige), Musky Amethyst (deep plum), and One of a Kind (mid-tone rosy neutral).
- Gem of Roses is a semi-sheer, medium-dark pink with yellow undertones, making it a warmer pink. This has a lustre finish. It is a little pinker than Bobbi Brown Heather Pink, less pink than MAC Naughty You, bit darker than Guerlain Bianca, and slightly pinker than Chanel Mademoiselle.
- Lush Amber is a sheer peachy brown. This has a lustre finish. It’s darker and less opaque than MAC Freckletone, slightly browner than Chanel Peregrina, and less opaque than MAC Martha.
- Musky Amethyst is a semi-opaque, berry plum with ruby red shimmer. This has a frost finish. It’s sheerer and lighter than NYX Violet Ray and Make Up For Ever #13, less red, more plum than MAC Hang Up, and sheerer than MAC Odyssey.
- One of a Kind is a sheer, rosy, plum-brown. This has a lustre finish. It’s a sheerer, less red version of Estee Lauder Plum Fizz, redder Guerlain Galante.
MAC Lipsticks are vanilla-scented but have no discernible taste (to me). Their lustre lipsticks are designed to be sheerer in color, so the color payoff of the three lustres in this launch is as expected. Musky Amethyst, which has a frost finish, seems to be a little sheerer given its frost finish. Lustres wear two to three hours on me, while frosts tend to be better at four. In my experience, lustres are a little drying.
Where to Buy: MAC Cosmetics, July 7th, $14.50 each
The Glossover
Shades like Gem of Roses and Lush Amber will suit warmer skin tones slightly more than cooler skin tones, but these are all on the sheerer side that they're quite workable across the range of skin tones. Musky Amethyst is very much a fall color.

Where can I purchase this? How much is it?
The collection will be available in-stores on July 7th, and it will be online approximately July 5th (but possibly delayed because of the July 4th holiday).
Is it limited edition?
Yes.
Any dupes?
See individual shades - you can also refer to The Swatch Gallery for more comparisons.
shame about lush amber it looks like such a pretty colour but really is a bit blah on :-( thanx for your honest opinion much love claire xoxo
Hi, everyone! Do you think Gem of Roses looks like Clinique's Guava Stain? I don't want to order Gem of Roses if it's already pretty similar. Thanks for the input!
i went to the mac counter the other day and i tried fanfare on my upper lip and gem of roses in my lower lip they lloked kind of the same to me.
i got gem of roses and one of a kind and neither one shows up on my lips and i'm about an nw23. kinda bummed. ah well, back to the cremesheens.
Hey Christine! In your opinion, Gem of Roses do you think it would flatter a more fair/light skinned person? Thanks!
Hm. All of them except for Musky Amethyst look really similar to me. I'll probably get Gem of Roses if I test it out and it looks good on me, but the color seems to be really pretty.
I thought about getting Musky Amethyst when you first posted the promo pics, now having seen the swatches I MUST HAVE IT! Too bad the LE's usually take forever until they're available in Germany...
I hate lustres. IMO it doesn't look like you're wearing anything at all. Musky Amethyst is the winner out of this bunch!
Christine, would you know if Gem of Roses is at all similar to Covergirl's Lip Perfection lipstick in Heavenly? I just picked it up yesterday and it seems to be a similar tone and color.
I think this collection is passable for me, which is a sigh of relief after Surf, Baby. Beautiful colors, just nothing unique enough or undupable to anything in my collection already.
Musky Amethyst looks lovely, but it also looks like it's pretty close to "Cunning" from Fabulous Felines. Off to the swatch gallery I go...
Not impressed with this collection either. MAC needs more creativity or to let bloggers and regular people help out with their new collections
OMG - with the exception of Lush Amber I want to have them all! Usually I'm not a big fan of sheer Lipsticks, but these are gorgeous (and since I'm starting to work in a bank soon, I could use them for work as well ;-)).
Thanks a lot for the review and swatches :) I like Gem of Roses, but I wonder how close it is to Strawbaby from Fafi. Both are described as strawberry red and I have a weakness for those shades....
Pretty...but they do not seem special at all. Maybe because I am not a huge fan of lustre finishes....
lush amber, gem of roses & one of a kind looks promising however since the pigmentation of my lips differ from Christines a store swatch is definetly in order i will however put these babies on a pre order @ my mac counter just in case they work for my skintone. Thanks Christine your dedication to this blog is truly appreciated.
