MAC Packed to Go: 4 Lips & Pressed Powder

MAC Packed to Go: 4 Lips & Pressed Powder

MAC Packed to Go was originally a duty free launch, but it’s landed online at now. It features several sets of products, and I’m reviewing three of the offerings. The reason I am not reviewing the rest is because they contain products I’ve reviewed in the past or are permanent shades. 4 Lips & Pressed Powder ($38.00) contains four lipglasses: Riviera Ready (warm light nude), Poetic License (pale apricot), Rosehips (mid-tone rosy pink), and Quick Change (mid-tone cool blue rose) along with one powder:  Belightful (gilded peach bronze). Poetic License, Rosehips, and Belightful are repromotes.

  • Riviera Ready is a warm, yellow-based nude with soft gold shimmer. It is semi-sheer on lips. C-Thru is the closest permanent gloss, but it is less warm and creamier.
  • Poetic License is a milky peach-pink with subtle pink and gold micro-shimmer. It is semi-sheer on lips. It seems closest to Florabundance.
  • Rosehips is a rosy plum with a creamy finish. It is semi-opaque on lips. It is lighter than Lust.
  • Quick Change is a rpasberry pink with lots of golden shimmer. It is semi-sheer on lips. I can’t think of a permanent dupe in MAC’s line for this, but it is similar to Korres #18 Peach lipstick.
  • Belightful is a champagne bronze with flecks of bronze glitter. The glitter is noticeable on skin but not chunky. I did feel it emphasized the texture of my skin, though. Try theBalm’s Mary Lou-manizer as a dupe.

If you’re familiar with MAC’s holiday palettes from last year, the packaging is very similar–this palette is just all black and has no special design on the outside. Each lipglass well contains 0.049 oz. of product (total of 0.196 oz.), while the powder is 0.17 oz. In the palette, you’re getting $16.72 worth of lipglass and $13.96 worth of powder (I believe the Iridescent Powder retailed for $23 for 0.28 oz.). The palette is actually more expensive than the amount of product you actually get, though you do get to try five different products for $38.

The Glossover

The lipglasses are always sheerer in the palettes than they are in tubes, which makes application frustrating. Belightful was sheer and difficult to apply evenly.

  4. Amy

I had a feeling this would be one that I’d skip. I tend to not like lip products in palette form. I much prefer a tube.

  5. Szlamizita

Off topic but I have to ask.
The surf baby collection is really just coming out at the end of the month?Because here in Hungary there was already a preview party (so some people who attend already has some products and photos of it). And it seems like tomorrow it will be available in all hungarian mac stores.
And usually Hungary is late with the collections and this is like a month early…Or isn’t it?

    • Sorry, I can only go buy the U.S. date, and it is not out here until end of May.

    • Annika

I just got an e-mail from MAC Finland saying that Surf Baby is out 2nd May here, so might be in Hungary as well?

      • Szlamizita

Yes its here!I really don’t know why.I already bought one of the pigment sets and the cheek powder. Its a very very good collection. I’m much more satisfied than with the previous ones!!!
The pigments are great, coordinating with each other and bigger than I expected. I’m still thinking I should buy the other one too but its too much money :S
Lipsticks are unique and the cheek powder is great also. It looks too orange in the pot but putting it on is really another thing, more peachy.

  6. quick change reminds me a little bit of hush, hush rose lg from the spring color forecast last year.

  7. Lauren

Thanks, Christine! What lip gloss are you wearing in the Belightful picture? It is lovely on you!

  8. Brenda

I just ordered this:) I actually like the sheerness of the darker colours – on a day to day I’m not a big lipstick person unless it’s a nude so I’m going to give these a go! Thank you Christine!

  9. Hannah

Though I’m skipping this, I LOVE the way these colors look on you! You look absolutely gorgeous!

  10. Steph

I always have and always will hate lip palettes. If it isnt’ because they are sheer it is because I can’t stand lipstick or gloss not in a tube. And the powder always seems to migrate to the lip products.

  11. Carrie

Do you know of any good places to find out what MAC can be found in duty-free (and if any of it is worth it?) I’m heading overseas in a few months and this is probably the best chance to hit it up!

As for this palette, I can’t say I’m fond of the mix of colors. :(

  12. I actually really like lip palettes (in the minority here lol). Does this come with a lip brush? I guess not because I don’t see one. But it looks really handy and compact which I love. <3 I want to try the Look In a Boxes and the Lip palettes.

  13. I meant the Lip sets. I didn’t even know about this collection! Most of the products are permanent though..

  14. Grace

What are you wearing on your lips in the Belightful swatch? It’s gorgeous!

  15. I like Rosehips the best! Thanks for the detailed photos, you always have the best photos that show the products accurately :)

  16. Carmen

THANK YOU, Christine, for the reviews on these palettes!
    They are much appreciated.

  17. Hadia Salahuddin

Woah really beautiful. I absolutely love MAC Quick Change Lipglass and MAC Rosehips Lipglass
