MAC Packed to Go: Cool Smokey Eyeshadow Palette

MAC Packed to Go: Cool Smokey Eyeshadow Palette

MAC Packed to Go Cool Smokey Eyeshadow Palette ($38.00 for 0.19 oz.) includes: Seedy Pearl (chilled lavender pink), Tendersmoke (muted silver lilac), Satin Taupe (taupe with silver shimmer), A Brown Suit (rich deep red), Beauty Marked (black.red with sparkle pearl), and Carbon (intense black).

  • Seedy Pearl is a pale, cool-toned iridescent lilac pink that is a touch sheer. It has a frost finish and is part of the permanent range.
  • Tendersmoke is a muted, grayish purple with plum. It had a really smooth texture and was nicely pigmented. It has a frost finish and is a palette exclusive. It is a grayer, less red-toned Satellite Dreams–no dupe in the permanent range.
  • Satin Taupe is a cool-toned, medium-dark brown. It had excellent color pay off with a really smooth feel. It has a frost finish and is part of the permanent range, but this seems lighter and more golden.
  • A Brown Suit is a berried red with a soft frost finish. It has a frost finish and is a palette exclusive. It resembles Cranberry quite a bit, slightly less berry.
  • Beauty Marked is a semi-sheer blackened brown with flecks of burgundy and silver glitter. It has a rather dusty texture and not very pigmented. It has a velvet finish and is part of the permanent range.
  • Carbon is a dark, blue-based black. It’s a finicky shade that doesn’t always swatch well but works better when applied. It has a matte finish and is part of the permanent range.

If you’re familiar with MAC’s holiday palettes from last year, the packaging is very similar–this palette is just all black and has no special design on the outside. The palette contains $55.10 worth of eyeshadow ($14.50 for 0.05 oz. for individual eyeshadows), so unlike the lip/face palette, this one is a much better deal.

The only color I like is Tendersmoke.. well I have Satin Taupe. I wish they had something similar to Tendersmoke in the permanent line.

The first three colors are pretty nice, but the palette just doesn’t wow me. I’m not sure why, but MAC’s eye shadows just don’t EVER interest me very much. I think my favorite items from MAC are their lip products.

Wow, I actually bought four of these as e/s singles (Beauty Marked, Carbon, Satin Taupe and Seedy Pearl) last week. Guess I’ll be giving this a miss then!

Wow!!I love the Brown suit. Christine, do you know if there’s a dupe of this shade? I know you mentioned Cranberry..but i dont know which shade that is :/

Thanks!

Wow, this is a really pretty group of colors! Now I just have to decide if they’re unique enough to warrant a purchase… I feel like I have a lot of colors that are really similar to these already! Beauty Marked is by far my favorite.

hi christine..
thanks for the review..sorry if i missed it but can’t find the details regarding their availability in stores?
is it exclusively available on maccosmetics.com?

This palette has a very interesting mix of colours, and I love it. Based on the swatches, I would never have guessed the golden one was Satin Taupe. It looks a lot like a cross between Tempting and Amber Lights to me. :S

wow, I’m sometimes amazed when they label the palette is cool. The red & plum tones make it warmer, so it can be more than challenging to wear these shades on cool toned skin. The tones of Carbon & Seedy Pearl work, but not enough wow to get some to purchase. I think this would be great on warmer toned skin! Too bad the exclusive shade wasn’t available separately!

So when is this available? I think even though I own carbon and satin taupe this is a good deal- since I use both all the time…
Is it limited edition? I’m viewing on my phone so I might be skipping over something by accident :/

Not a fan of either Carbon (I much prefer Typographic) or Beauty Marked and already have Satin Taupe so this is one I would happily pass on!

Christine, I asked a similar question in the other shadow palette review. Beauty Marked is bitty in the regular line, is it similarly bitty (the same) or extra bitty in this version?

Oh wow, I love this palette even though I already have Satin Taupe. I need to have it!
Christine, do you know if this is supposed to be a duty free exclusive as well?

LOOOOVEE!!!!!! Thanks for the swatches…it’s just so hard to tell the true pigment and tones on the Mac website. Thought I wanted this Cool Palette, but now I KNOW I DO!!!

I just realized you already answered this, but it just didn’t show up on my search because the person said “The Brown Suit” instead of “A Brown Suit.” Sorry!

Wow satin taupe looks unrecognizable to me.. definitely lighter and more brown in this palette! A Brown Suit looks absolutely gorgeous but I already have most of these colors (and cranberry) so I won’t be purchasing.
