YSL Rouge Tuxedo & Rose Saint Germain Rouge Volupte Shines Reviews & Swatches
Rouge Tuxedo (45)
YSL Rouge Tuxedo (45) Rouge Volupte Shine Oil-in-Stick ($38.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a bright, juicy pink-red with subtle, cool undertones and a glossy sheen. The lipstick had a smooth, balmy consistency that felt wet as it glided across my lips but seemed to melt into my lips and felt thinner and didn’t slide around much while worn. The color coverage was medium, slightly buildable, and didn’t emphasize my lip lines or lip texture. It stayed on nicely for five hours, left a bit of a stain behind, and was moisturizing over time.

Formula Overview
$38.00/0.11 oz. - $345.45 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be "deeply hydrating" and "melt" onto the lips with a "pop of color" and give long-term hydration. It is described as having "medium coverage" and "irreverent shine." The color coverage was typically medium, as described, though some of the deeper shades were more buildable to semi-opaque coverage.
They're a very, very creamy, emollient formula; they slip-slide as they melt against the lips during application, and it feels luxurious to apply but can be easily over-applied. It's just the type of texture that lends itself to over-application without adding more coverage, so I recommend being mindful in order to ensure you'll get plenty of usage out of each tube. Fortunately, once on, they don't feel thick or overly slippery, so it doesn't feel like the lipstick is constantly moving while worn.
They have a high-shine, almost glossy, finish that often smoothed out my lip lines without settling into them, and the latter made it more impressive due to the amount of color and slip. The wear time varied from shade to shade but typically landed between three and five hours. Some shades leave a faint stain behind--usually the mid-tone and darker hues. The formula has a sweet, mango scent but no discernible taste.

Rose Saint Germain (49)
YSL Rose Saint Germain (49) Rouge Volupte Shine Oil-in-Stick ($38.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a soft, medium-dark fuchsia pink with cooler undertones and a natural sheen. It was one of the less glossy/shiny shades in the range that I’ve tried, though it had a similar balm-like consistency that had a wetter feel initially and seemed to “set” lightly, just enough so the color didn’t slide around. It had medium, buildable pigmentation (up to semi-opaque coverage) that lasted for four and a half hours, left a faint stain behind, and was hydrating.

Between MAC and Guerlain, I’ve got dupes for both of these shades.
I really wanted to buy one of the YSL Oil-in-Stick lipsticks, but apparently I’ve got good dupes for every shade that interests me and even some that don’t!
I am really loving seeing these lipsticks (glosses? hybrids?) – I am so tired of matte after matte after “retro matte” lipsticks and so glad to see this attractive, fresh look. The price of these, though, is steep and coupled with my “low buy” (it really should be a “no buy” but I don’t know if my system could stand the shock), means I’ll likely only be buying one of these and it will either be “Cape” or “Cassandre”. YSL should be giving you a %, though, Christine, because without your reviews, I wouldn’t even have stopped to look at these.
For goodness sake, YSL, stop tempting me with these sumptuous Oil-In-Stick lipsticks, pleeeze? Because now I’m in love with both! ?
It will be very difficult to stick to just one (or 2) during Sephora spring sale. Rouge Tuxedo is EVERYTHING. Like a deliciously gelatinous UD Catfight on steroids! Meow! ?
I see the Catfight in Rouge Tuxedo, also. Isn’t it crazy how tempted we are by a new lipstick if it is good and the formula is comfortable to wear. I am going to pick up one or two in the spring sale.
Given my antipathy to color on my lips, these don’t interest me but your eye look is fabulous. I am hoping I can dupe that with my stash.
I like the look of these balm like lipsticks and so pleased to see that they aren’t in a matte finish. They look really hydrating to the lips. Lovely spring shades.
If people are looking for what is likely to be a similar product, on the way cheaper end, Peripera’s sweet jelly pang gives a highly similar look. HL features them at times, as do Amazon, and the usual KB suspects. The finish is so fresh! But you cannot rely on the colors, the way you can on Christine’s swatches. S.t. the color descriptions get very skewed in the translation. I must have gotten 3-4 KB ‘reds’ that were not my idea of red AT ALL. Enthrall Red is actually a pinky red, quite similar to Tuxedo. Don’t forget yout AB/KB, people. It’s not just skincare….
