YSL Rosy Glow (14) Couture Palette

YSL Rosy Glow (14) Couture Palette ($60.00 for 0.16 oz.) contains a mix of warmer neutrals with satin to frost finishes. The eyeshadows are supposed to be “intense” in color, long-wearing, and crease-proof. The palette largely performed as past Couture palettes have, which is with decent pigmentation, softer/dustier textures, and below-average wear but does improve significantly when used over a primer. While I typically like the end result of how the formula looks on the lid, this palette had one major miss–the light gold–that was just sheer and messy to work with, which is not at all the “intense color” promised.

Rosy Glow #1 is a light, peachy-pink with warm undertones and a soft, frosted finish. It had good pigmentation, though the slightly dusty texture made it prone to sheering out more readily on the skin unless it was applied over a primer. It was easy to blend and sat well on the skin. The color started to fade noticeably after six and a half hours of wear. MAC Dance Flowers Dance (LE, $23.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). LORAC Blush (LE, $19.00) is brighter (95% similar). MAC Sweet Lust (P, $17.00) is lighter (95% similar). Dior Trafalgar #1 (PiP, ) is lighter (95% similar). Pat McGrath Skinshow Glow (PiP, $25.00) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). Rosy Glow #2 is a light gold with warm undertones and a sparkling, shimmery finish. It had sheer coverage, which was not buildable and did not perform significantly better over primer. This was so frustrating to discover in the palette, because at this price point, all five shades should perform well. It was dusty, messy to use, and lasted for five and a half hours. Dior Exuberante #3 (LE, ) is more shimmery (95% similar). Gucci Beauty Tuscan Storm #1 (PiP, ) is warmer (90% similar). Kevyn Aucoin Iced Gold (LE, ) is less shimmery (90% similar). Rosy Glow #3 is a slightly muted, dark brown with warm undertones and a satin sheen. The texture was soft without being too powdery or too firm, so it applied with good coverage to bare skin but still blended out with ease. The color faded noticeably after seven and a half hours of wear. LORAC Black #5 (LE, $19.00) is warmer (95% similar). LORAC Java (PiP, $19.00)(95% similar). Rosy Glow #4 is a light-medium, peachy coral with warm undertones and a fine, golden shimmer. It had excellent pigmentation that applied well to bare skin. The texture was soft, blendable, and sat well on the skin. This shade wore for seven hours before fading noticeably. MAC Artistic License (LE, $17.00) is darker (95% similar). Too Faced Ringleader (LE, $16.00) is less shimmery (90% similar). bareMinerals Future (PiP, ) is more shimmery, lighter (90% similar). MAC Paradisco (P, $17.00) is more shimmery (90% similar). See comparison swatches / view dupes side-by-side.

Rosy Glow #5 is a medium-dark brown with warm, reddish undertones and a frosted finish. The texture was soft, lightly dusty but smooth and blendable on the skin without looking dry or powdery when applied to the lid. The pigmentation was fully opaque and didn’t lose its intensity when blended. On me, it lasted for seven and a half hours. MAC Twinks (P, $17.00) is less shimmery (95% similar). Tarte Silk Robe (LE, ) is less shimmery (95% similar). Too Faced Peppermint Mocha (LE, $16.00) is more shimmery (95% similar). Cle de Peau Golden Age #1 (LE, ) is darker (95% similar). I’m interested — I’ve not encountered too many rosy eyeshadows that are warm toned. At this price point I have to swatch it in-store, so I’ll keep an eye out at local Nordstroms.

Oh dear, at $ 60, you can’t have a shadow score an F, and the other swatches aren’t exactly wowing me either. if they can’t the neutrals right, I’m not holding out much hope for kits with bolder colors (blues, purples)

Oh dear! That golden shade really is disappointing. It’s a shame, because it really would have brought the other colors of the palette together well, not that they aren’t pretty on their own. I’m always surprised when an expensive brand releases a dud like that.

This is nice but not wow enough for me to want it which is just as well! Btw, two of the photos are mixed up – the photos of #2 and #3 in the pan.

Not sure *how* one could, at this particular price point, get a rosey brown palette so off? It’s really a shame, too, because this had the potential to be a perfect little everyday type palette. ?

It was a surprise that the gold was problematic! Gold eyeshadows are usually pretty good (like a copper, hard to mess up!). If it had more glitter/sparkle in it, I would have thought it was designed as a glittery top coat (like Dior often has), but it didn’t seem any different than the others in terms of formula.

Why would anyone buy this when the gorgeous Anastasia Modern Renaissance palette has over 9 grams for $42?? And the colours are so boring on this YSL palette. It is decades since I bothered with YSL.

At $60 I think a palette should live up to what is promised, an easy skip for me. The palette does look nice just to look at, though 🙂

I totally agree, Helene! I can see why some might appreciate the coverage level they are at, but if you want pigmented as they say, this is definitely not the best.

I gotta rant: It’s ridiculous that YSL continues to bring out palettes that have not a single matte in them. For me, if you’ve seen one of these palettes, you’ve seen them all. They all look so pretty in the palette, but they never seem to apply well and never include mattes. What is it with YSL? I don’t get it. I don’t want to look at a palette. I want to wear it!!!

I feel like it must be intentional – it’s not as if they don’t know mattes exist, but I have always wondered the same.

I agree! All of the YSL eye palettes are shimmery, no mattes, but considering how bad some of the shimmery shades are, maybe it’s a blessing they don’t come out with mattes, which are even harder to get right.

For a non-performing e/s, you used #2 very nicely. Never would have bought to use ether with this palette, either. Subtle and pretty, though it doesn’t look particularly rosy to me.

Thank you! It’s not the rosiest… it’s actually warmer than I would have thought for something called Rosy Glow.

Yeah at that point you’re 3/4 of the way to a Viseart palette so no thanks YSL…can’t remember the last time I bought anything from them that wowed me. I suppose some of their lip products are nice enough if you don’t mind fragrance ?

The colour palette in this one reminds me of a toned down neutral version of the Rimmel quint Burgundy Palace. Except the pale pink in the YSL that looks like a pale lavender is actually a lavender in the Rimmel. It’s too bad the YSL also performed the same as you would expect the $6 Rimmel to. Although the gold in the Rimmel is stunning.
