YSL Contrary Fuchsia & Red Enigma Slim Matte Lipsticks Reviews & Swatches
Contrary Fuchsia (08)
YSL Contrary Fuchsia (08) Rouge Pur Couture The Slim Matte Lipstick ($39.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a deep, rich fuchsia pink with cool, blue undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation, which made it one of the less pigmented shades in the full range. The texture was smooth, velvety, and comfortable to glide on in a fluid motion.
It separated slightly along my deeper lip lines initially, but it seemed to smooth out over time. It stayed on well for over six hours and left a strong stain behind that was there the next day. The formula felt neither drying nor hydrating.

Formula Overview
$39.00/0.08 oz. - $487.50 Per Ounce
The formula is supposed to be "weightless" and "non-drying" that "stays put all day" with "high-pigmented matte color." The texture has a smooth, velvety consistency--it glided on readily but didn't feel wet or traditionally creamy, more like a silicone-based primer. The majority of the shades applied evenly, didn't separate along my lip lines, and were lightweight and comfortable to wear.
The pigmentation was mostly opaque to opaque, and the shade range seemed to pull more mid-tone and deeper with a fair number of red-based shades. As a result, numerous shades lasted six hours or longer with red-based shades leaving very strong stains behind (even into the next day, my lips were often pink-to-fuchsia!). Some shades seemed to go on and on and on because of the color itself and the underlying staining power! The formula was non-drying as promised.
The diamond-shaped bullet may take a use or two to get the hang of, but I didn't find it difficult to use at all. The triangular point did work particularly well for getting a sharper cupid's bow shape, if desired. The formula had a floral scent that was barely detectable while on and no discernible taste.

PPermanent. $39.00.
Red Enigma (09)
YSL Red Enigma (09) Rouge Pur Couture The Slim Matte Lipstick ($39.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a deep red with neutral-to-warm undertones and a mostly matte finish. It was richly pigmented and delivered even, opaque coverage in a single layer, though there was a touch of product that settled into my deeper lip lines but wasn’t enough to be noticeable in person.
The texture felt smooth, velvety, and creamy without being traditionally emollient. It wore well for over six hours and left a very strong, lingering stain, while the formula was non-drying.

What a sexy, “film noir” rich red! I love that it is still truly red; no brown, burgundy, plum or copper hue to be found. Perfect!
Ooooo, looking for a new fuchsia. This might be the one. A cool fuchsia suits me better but Red Enigma is gorgeous on you.
I love both. I do have dupes for Contrary Fuchsia, but they are a bit down the list.
Red Enigma is wonderful and I don’t have any dupes at all.
It’s always fun finding something to put on the wish list and both went there directly.
